Cash Support is way to ridiculous to get into as mentioned it is Gambling. This mens W-2's and what not, when PCQ's were run by stores the prize support was still handled by UDE. I would say stick to the prize support. WHy does the game have to be monetary based in order for you to feel you got your worth.
Has YuGi had monetary prize support? NO, yet t outpaces anyother game beause the prize support is that good. People don't learn.
the reason why yugioh doesnt have money prize support is for the simple fact that the some cards are worth a #### load of money. so the cards are then sold. the reason why vs cards arent value money wise as yugi cards is for the fact that vs doesnt have ultra, super duper ultra shine 1 in 500 boxes monser rares wins games automatically! yugioh has this thats why so many player play it. it does have "money" support. you just have to be really good to win it in order to 'sell" it.
Yeah I know however, with an increased Prize support it's not too far out the question is it? Unless of course none of you guys drive.
well we have two drivers within our play group (myself and one other) only problem i dont have a car and the other rarely plays competitively... so traving to play really isnt worth it for him i assume...

I live in the greatest city in the world... New York. I would really like to get one going here the weekend of the New York Comic Con since there should be an influx of players coming into town anyway for the Con...
yeah but then after the train then what?? with no car your stuck in the burbs' and im pretty sure ATF isnt walking distance from the train. if i remember correctly from the pcq days ATF has nothing but highway/route roads by it
Curtis tried this in the bay area last year. He tried to make a 1K - we didn't get enough people, so we lowered the entry fee. It was still a lot of fun (and I made my etry fee back, so I was happy).
Hey CTD do you think people in Nor Cal would be interested in doing this again? Even if we need to hold it somewhere "in the middle" for all of us? Maybe I can find a hotel place and get some gift cards made. I can do self made PCQ's. It was 250 for first half a box for second and half a box for third and fourth to split? I think that sounds reasonable. But we can kick it up a notch, doing 500 for first, second gets a box and 3rd and fourth split a box.
For the numbers to be right we need 500+120ish so 620, If we expect 20 players that would be 31 bucks from each... but even if you come in 3rd or 4th you got your moneys worth. The 250 way would mean we need 310 and with 20 players that's only 15 bucks for each person. If we get more we can give away more. Any store would be happy to just sell 2 boxes and have 20 people in their store buying cards and maybe last minute singles (for stores that actually have singles).
I think this is reasonable.
All we would need is a roll call to make sure that many people are coming and get it done.
The problem is that we don't have enough players who are willing to risk money. They either A, don't believe that it's worth it, or B, don't believe in themselves enough to win. of course there are like C, D, E, F, G. but A and B seem most likely.
I also heard someone saying yugioh doesn't need to do money tournaments, but they have plenty of little kids who seen "that" monster on TV and want it for their Deck and if they don't get it, their mother is going to get a headache. So lets just buy him a box and hope he gets it and if not then it's time to ebay.
Also the one reason I loved playing YGO when I did was because the older kids and people (there were plenty of 20 somethings playing) who played would all play for cards. Plenty of gamble for anyone.
I think we could even do this on a State level with Nor-Cal vs So-Cal and play some big 2 or 3k tournament with 60 people.
The options are endless.
Lets get some of this together!

ugh why does cali have all the cool tournaments.. i wish we could do this in the nyc area..
oh please do tell!!! so i guess you dont want to hold it at the comic con in feb.??i think that would be a good choice holding it at the comic con.
its a great location and its dead center in nyc so other non comic/vs things can be done. also most vs players are comic junkies so vs tounament and comics go hand in hand... you cant beat that!

I'd agree with you, and maybe it's just that UDE was incompetent, but that was tried back in the summer of '04 and a bit of '05 and they didn't pan out too well.
Space issues, double-fees (entry and event, which was a bigger deal or something), limited access areas.
If you guys get it to work that'll be fun though.
