I don't DISlike Christmas Story, so I don't really think we differ. Unless you're one of those people who loves it so much that you bought the lamp. In which case, I just don't get that level of attachment to the thing.
I've never seen Elf owing to the fact that I dislike Will Ferrell almost as much as I dislike Jim Carrey. I think I'm already a "hate it" good call on your part.
No lamp. I don't love it at Lebowski levels.
I'm not a Will Ferrell fan except in very specific circumstances, and this is one of them. There's also quite a bit of Rankin Bass homage.
I thought hipsters were those awkward, high waisted panties like the ones *redacted* had on the night we went skinny-dipping after the Sadie Hawkins dance.
Ah, continuity stuff. I was actually thinking of editing (for pacing and storytelling) as something it excels at.
Continuity stuff doesn't usually bug me.
I agree on the pacing and storytelling. Considering what is being told and how it's being told, it's borderline genius.
And then there are scenes where lighting, angles, and other effects are used fantastically to really convey stuff.
And then there's Little Rascals level gaffs. It's quite perplexing. (Frank Capra uses Perplex as a Free Action!)
One thing my father and my sister always point out is that the movie doesn't really make George look like that great of a guy. He's a serious jerk in several scenes.
Watch the scene with his mother in the alternate reality again. Wow, not having George turned her into a cold-stone beeyotch!
