The various townsfolk milled around, wary of the darkspawn attacks but not sure of who to trust. The two that found each other the night before shared a concerned look, hoping to see each other on the morning again.

The Taste of Ashes

The woman aimed her rifle again, having fought off another group of darkspawn earlier. She narrowed her eyes, taking careful aim. A plethora of bullets flew out, sprinkling around the massive figure. The figure looked down at her, “Charming. I do enjoy the way its squishy eyes just widened when it realized how ridiculous those pebbles were. However, I’m feeling particularly patient, so…” The massive figure then reared back a mighty fist, and only the combat armor worn prevented the woman from being turned into a nice greasy smear. The figure shrugged once, then strolled off while keeping a wary eye in the sky for pigeons.

Elsewhere, someone else focused on her efforts, eyes closed as she sat in a meditative pose. Her hands loosely rested on her knees, until her eyes suddenly opened, sensing a great disturbance nearby. She rose to her feet gracefully, just barely avoiding a blast of negative power hitting where she was sitting. Turning, she ignited her lightsaber, facing her mysterious foe. The other figure smiled mockingly, “The power… you have so much of it, I must have it!” As the woman launched herself at her attacker, she was seized by dark arcane power, feeling her strength draining away… and then her life.

As she collapsed to the ground, lifeless, the figure smiled, “Powerful indeed, but I need… MORE.”

By the shuttlecraft, another woman worked feverishly, listening intently to instructions from the comlink. The comlink squawked, “Alright, now be very careful of the positronic relays…”

The woman frowned, “That’s only the seventh time you said it. There, activating the power system…”

The sarcastic droid’s optics flared to life, “Danger… meatbag… vicious!!!” It then blinked in surprise, “Where am I? You… you reassembled me???” Suddenly, there was a noise from outside.

The woman nodded, giving the droid a pleasant smile, despite the sarcasm, “Of course, but hold on now, I need to check on that.” Confident, the woman went out of the shuttle to see what the problem was.

Unfortunately, as the high-pitched scream proved, her confidence was misplaced…

On a funny note, I'm in DC on a hone exchange. The kid who lives here has an XBox, and I played Mass Effect for 20 minutes or so... At the moment, a tad unimpressed. I take it it gets good?

It does. 20 minutes is... a pittance. It would be like judging a movie based on the first minute of the video.

It is strange to feel something for a meatbag, but it is disappointing to see mbauers die. I thankee-sai...

Um, are you talking gameplay? Because if so, then no, it does not get good. Mass Effect has one of the worst combat systems ever. However, it has incredible story, and dialogue options.


Mass Effect 2, however, has the impressive and fun gameplay to go with everything else.

Hmm... I'm here forba few more nights, and he has ME2. Will I have more fun playing that than the original.

At the moment, I'm annoyed there wasn't a basic tutorial. Maybe it's 'cause I'm playing on a small screen, but I was surprised when I died the first time.. Didn't even know there was a life meter somewhere.
