I really can't wait to see GotG, although I doubt I will be able to see it by the time I leave here, so by the time I get to see it, everyone will likely already be done with it, and everything from the movie will have been overanalyzed ten times over. But I'm still excited to see it.
Okay, my Mafia brothers and sisters, I highly recommend giving this week's episode of This American Life, called "Got Your Back" a listen. The first Act is around a game I've never heard of, called Diplomacy, which I think us Mafia fans would get a huge kick out of. The descriptions of backstabbing an alliances sounded really cool and familiar.
My wife listened to it, and told me I should, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. If you want a mafiesque game, I do have some card and board game suggestions:
Castle of the Devil - no elimination mechanic, but that's kinda what makes it great. Two teams, and you don't know who is on your team, as part of the game is determining that.
Bang! - Sheriff + Deputy(ies) (Town?), Outlaws (Mafia?), and Renegade (Serial Killer?). You only ever know who the Sheriff is, but he's got advantages. Pretty much a shooting gallery.
Battlestar Galactica - Cylons and Humans, need I say more?
There's more I'm not thinking of, but those 3 usually give me my biggest Mafia fix.

Well, The Resistance basically is mafia. Also, Shadows over Camelot has a traitor aspect to the game as well that can make it more about intrigue.

The only one of these that I've played is BSG, but I loved it, and it felt very mafiaesque to me, which is an absolutely perfect fit to the source material.

Also forgot Saboteur, which also has a traitor aspect.
Also forgot Clue. Professor Plum is often mafia, kinda like Mal.

Actually, smartypants, you've been mafia far more often than I have been lately. Clearly chaz is always evil.
That's the truth. Didn't use to be that way, but I have somehow been drawn over to the Dark Side. FB confirms my evilness on a regular basis. I find it ironic, but there it is and there you have it... Go figure.

Clearly, someone hit both of us with an alignment-reversal ray. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to donate some Clix to needy orphans.

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy yesterday. Not bad. Great special effects.
I loved Groot and Rocket, but did not care for Gamora. She lacked any kind of depth, I thought. Both her and Starlord had a "Nah, I'm a good guy" feel to their storyline, where they both decide to be good because, well, why not? They may have stated some reasons at some point, but nothing compelling--it was a tell without showing anything blunder, I thought.
That should explain why Mal can hit all of those high notes when he sings U2 for karaoke! Fascinating!!!!
