I agree on the pacing and storytelling. Considering what is being told and how it's being told, it's borderline genius.
And then there are scenes where lighting, angles, and other effects are used fantastically to really convey stuff.
And then there's Little Rascals level gaffs. It's quite perplexing. (Frank Capra uses Perplex as a Free Action!)
One thing my father and my sister always point out is that the movie doesn't really make George look like that great of a guy. He's a serious jerk in several scenes.
Watch the scene with his mother in the alternate reality again. Wow, not having George turned her into a cold-stone beeyotch!
How about using spoiler tags for those of us who have not yet seen the movie.

Not like I'm gonna have this page open to spoil things while I'm watching! And it isn't like I don't know what the film is about. I just haven't sat through it yet.
<I did get stuck sitting through the above ad. It sucked!>

Catering to the lowest common denominator since Feb 2003.

Sorry!
As Bud points out, I figured that every/anyone was already familiar with the basic premise of the whole thing since it's been co-opted by every television show ever since.
Kinda like how Darth Vader being Luke's father is now common knowledge.

Yup, the guy is far from a saint. But that makes him all the more appealing as a human. Jerk or no, he usually does the right thing.
My biggest issue with him is the amount of self-pity and blaming others he indulges in. That's a big part of the point I guess.

I don't see a lot of self-pity. I think he's frustrated by having to make the right choices for the sake of others. Much like Spidey, he continues to pay dearly for doing the right thing.

I could go on. All the while he has Potter specifically targeting him. Plenty of justifiable blame there. I don't think he blames Harry, his father, or Mary. But fate and Potter sure like to kick George in the ass fairly hard. I certainly can't fault George for looking at the circumstances of his existence and thinking he can't catch a break. But, like you said, that's part of the point, or he'd never make it to the bridge, now, would he?
