I flipping hate the new costumes. Despite that, I continued to read all of my regular DC books through about half of the first story arcs. But with the continuity I've followed for the better part of 37 years completely dead, plus lame costumes that spit in the face of the heritage of the characters = this reader lost.
Really? You're not gonna stop reading the book because of the reboot or because you don't like the artist or writer, but just because you dislike the costume? The new (Jaime) Blue Beetle costume looks downright awful, but I picked the book up until it got canceled on issue 40something. Why? Because although the costume was dumb, the book was great. And how does the costume spit in the face of the character? Its pretty much the same as far as I can tell. The changes are fairly minor. No trucks in a no brainer (why do characters still have these?), the belt is red and he's got a collar. I hardly have noticed the unnecessary lines on his costume, but when I notice them I don't mind em.

I agree. The changes are rather small in my eyes and the lack of swimming trucks is such an improvement that I can totally ignore the collar. I still don't understand why they're giving him more messy hair (but that's not costume, that's personal hygiene)

I thought Supes have a tiny force field around him that protected him and his costume was normal cloth. Was I mistaken? I coulda swore I read that in the comics and I've seen his costume being sewn before.
I want to add that I really don't see the new costume as armor. To me, it just looks like a spandex costume with some added seems for decoration to make a rather prain looking suit look more interesting (Spidey's Red n Blue suit would look a tad boring without the webs)
I look forward to getting a clix of the new Superman costume, if for nothing else, than to replace the sculpt on my Fast Forces Superman. I think they nailed it as far as keeping a classic costume while updating it to look more appealing to a modern audience. Hearing all these complaints reminds me of people up in arms about Superman Returns costume having an S on his belt and too dark a shade of red. It's ridiculous. I've yet to hear a single person complain about how much Thor's look was changed in his movie and that was way more drastic of a change than what they've done to Superman.
Okay, this is not a troll or me trying to be funny but I'm thinking the last colossal is either Shuma (morer me hoping than any actual real reason for it), the Midgard Serpent, oooooorrrr...
In the Infinity Gauntlet comic series, there were teams that were assign to do different things against Thanos. One team was a distraction/First-Strike team that consisted of
Cap
Thor
Iron Man
She Hulk
Hulk
Spidey
Logan
Cyke
Wanda
Cloak
Namor
Doom
Drax
Quasar
Firelord
And white Vison.
What if it was a base that had them all on it? or maybe allowed you to put those figures on it?
I know it reads as a child's fantasy, but I think there would be nothing else they could do that would make all of us say "WoW"...

As mentioned - they were strongman trunks, like from the circus of the 1930s.

You did read it This was true for a brief time during the John Byrne reboot right after Infinite Crisis. It didn't stick - fans didn't really connect with it. So they returned the cloth for costume to being Kryptonian in origin as in the original stories.

Dude, did you read what I said that you quoted? I said I kept reading the books despite hating the costumes. I didn't say why I stopped. It was a combination of everything, but mostly because of the continuity change. I simply don't care about the new continuity. The best way I can explain it is that it's like watching an unnecessary remake of a classic movie. It might have the same name but the spirit is gone.
I still read Aquaman because I whined and cried for so long about wanting a new Aquaman book that I feel somewhat obligated to support it. But, otherwise, the DCU died to me in Sep 2011.
The new costumes spit in the face of the characters because they totally disregard what was the entire inspiration for the costumes of modern super heroes, as super clone reiterated for me, the circus acrobats and strong men of the late 19th and early 20th century. If it weren't for them, super heroes as we know them would not exist...which, of course is what DiDiot and Jim Lee are trying to achieve. By removing what inspired those original artists, they are treating the characters legacies flippantly and disrespectfully.
Looks like this thread got hijacked about three pages back...

Was John Broome being flippant and disrespectful when he completely trashed the original Green Lantern costume to give Hal Jordan a spandex look? Was Carmine Infantino being flippant and disrespectful when he dumped the original Flash costume for Barry Allen? Was Batman's yellow oval flippant and disrespectful?
Let's not go overboard here. Costumes change. These characters exist today in part because changes are made to them to keep up with the changing times. Making changes is not an insult to the artists who worked on these characters previously.
Superman's costume worked when he was created because it reminded people of the strongman look. Who associates that look with strongmen now? Anyone? Do modern circus strongmen wear anything like that? Does anyone care what modern circus strongmen wear? Circuses simply aren't a big part of our culture like they used to be. The resonance that made the image powerful is being lost to our changing society. It's only resonant with us because it's Superman's costume! To people who aren't invested in Superman, it's a guy with red underwear worn outside. If DC wants to keep the character looking dynamic and powerful, well, it's possible change is needed.
Probably not the change we got, because it really failed to accomplish 'dynamic and powerful' in my humble opinion, but that's another argument. I'm just responding to the notion that, somehow, changing things is an insult.
Wow, love what's being showed. Finally some solo Catwoman love. Especially love the 'through the window' in what I believe is her purple suit. Also the DC focus on Batman is great, especially if it will focus on the rogue gallery (hopefully with a single Harley, single Ivy, and finally a Zsasz).
No Man's Land sounds great, especially if prizes will be like the Harley/Joker duo. Only problem will be if they're all that cool, and it will be a crime to get them.
And didn't think/know that Giganto was this much bigger than Dormammu. Had hoped Giganto would be packed with something else as well (or with a second copy of him, or a generic mole monster).
