How many other Star Wars Duh-Haven moments can ya'll come up with?
Oh, this sounds like a fun game.
This is sure to be contentious, but, if you only watch the movies and ignore the the expanded universe (which lucasfilm officially told us to do anyway,) there's strong support that there is actually no such thing as "falling to the dark side."
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
My primary example is that Anakin was a mass murderer before he supposedly fell to the dark side. Light and dark are just dogmatic concepts of Jedi philosophy that they use to cover up their own failings.

Probably not as contentious as you might think.
I can totally see that point.
But then there's the in-movie evidence that once you become "seduced by the Dark Side" your eyes change color. SOMEthing changes. Call it a fall, or whatever you like. It ain't convenient and required contact lenses.
Comparing somebody to Peter Parker as an example of not being self pitying is a losing move...
Anyway, he doesn't have any excuses not to travel sometime in all those years.
Yup. I think it was the worst back in the original comics in the 60's, but there's still a good bit of Parker pity parties in more recent comics, too. Can I trademark that?

See, that's a good response. When I posted this on Facebook a while back to see if anyone could demonstrate the existence of an actual "dark side" from the movies, the responses were mostly about the expanded universe.
Going back to threepio, the aforementioned scene about Anakin buliding him actually does make a scene in The Empire Strikes Back make more sense, when Vader for some reason stops troopers from firing on Chewbacca and C3-PO. There's no reason given for why he would do that, but if you factor in him not wanting to see his creation destroyed, you can make it work.
And going a little more in the same movie, there's a deleted scene from Empire that shows 3PO displaying some tactical acumen. During the attack on Hoth, he pausses to rip a warning sign off a door. Imperial troops open up the now unidentified door, only to find it full of wampas. And you thought the only thing C3PO was cunning at was linguistics, didn't you?
Although, this does beg the question of why the rebel base would contain a room full of space yetis...

I was looking for the star wars essential guide to vehicles and vessels a few minutes ago, and the first thing google came up to auto-complete my query was "The essential guide to getting pregnant."

If you need to read a book to learn how, then you probably shouldn't.

So expanded universe is off the table, but deleted scenes are fair game?
It is ok for you to cite something outside of the base material when you want to make one point, but it isn't ok for someone else to do that if it supports his point.
Oh, back on the topic of Christmas music, specifically pertaining to songs which are not in any way related to Christmas yet which have been nonsensically adopted as de facto Christmas songs.
My Favorite Things was mentioned previously. (There is a whole side discussion on the movie here, too. I know some people who actually consider The Sound of Music to be a Christmas movie.)
I've seen no mention of Put A Little Love In Your Heart. I can only guess that this somehow became lumped in with Christmas songs due to its inclusion in Scrooged.
Anyway, getting to the point of my post, I'm wonder if anyone else here has a gut feeling that Let It Go from Frozen is going to eventually be in this category.

Forget, "eventually"; it's already happened.
I forget where, exactly, I was, but I've already heard it mixed in with Christmas stuff.
I think Disney specifically crafted Frozen to circumvent The War On Christmas by not even getting involved, but winning the whole darn thing anyway. Frozen becomes synonymous with Christmas and people forget about BOTH Jesus AND Santa.
Disney wins: Fatality.
On the plus side, the high school girls at the rink who would regularly practice to Frozen last year absolutely despise it now and can't stand to hear any of it. Frozen, apparently, is thawing and people are starting to hate it. All I ever really need is some patience and I usually see the body of my enemy float by. The problem is I'm so short on patience.
Until then, you can watch the Honest Trailer for Frozen and feel better about the whole thing.

You can trademark whatever the hell you want to, Vlad.
Self-Pity seems to me like one of those things like "passive aggressive" it's either over-used or mis-used or something.
The recognition that things are tough, things are decidedly tough, and/or things are repeatedly tough, is just observation. The recognition that one perseveres through them and does the right thing for the benefit of others, is also just observation.
At what point does one become Pollyanna?
Would you consider SRV's observation "If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all" self-pity? Is, therefore, all blues music self-pity?

There's another deleted scene, where Wampas break into Echo Base and the Rebels fight them. The scene where Artoo is cruising down the hallway and the ice chunks land on his head is, reportedly, originally from the scene with the Wampas and happens right before they break in. I had the Marvel adaptation, and the scene was in there.
Have you ever seen that picture of Han, Luke, Chewie, and Leia in Echo Base in all their snow gear? Maybe that's from that scene too?
I always loved that picture and then it wasn't even in the movie. Disapponted Little Haven in 1980.
I find it very difficult to believe that Threepio is cunning at linguistics. He is, however, good at math like when he tells Han the odds, and given his demeanor and affectations, I imagine Fellow's Ratios are where his talents lie.
