TBH, I don't the overall sculpt quality in the last few years is bad, aside from a few clunkers (we all know who they are, no sense flogging a dead horse). Good sweet Mike, they're meant to be miniature game pieces, not Michaelangelo's David.
Agree 100%.
Interestingly enough, what has begun to bother me is the overall lack of a definitive scale within the game. What's weird is that this sort of thing never bothered me before but has become an increasing irritant over time.
Fortunately, GSX should be the beginning of an all-new era in regards to scale!

That has irked me a little but not enough to make a big stink about, tho. I understand that having a group of people with different styles doing the sculpts that there are going to be variances and I'm pretty okay with that.

Yeah, I hear ya. That said, moving to digital sculpts eliminates this as an excuse for, say, any more Dum Dum Dugan scale issues.

I'll give you what I can, as always (i.e. info that's "out there" but you may not have heard).
For GSX, Marvel provided WK and its sculptors with a complete height and size index for the characters included in the set. That way, all of the figures in the set are allegedly to scale to each other, including the GSX colossals.
That said, having seen and handled the sculpts Justin brought with him to the Clixathon, I have to say that this appears to be entirely true.
For example:
Elsa Bloodstone appears tall, thin, and athletic and is smaller than:
The Blob, who appears larger than an average Hero or Villain in both height and width. But the Blob is smaller than:
(War) Hulk who, while courched over slightly, is larger than any other standard-sized figure, at least anatomically. I say "anatomically" becuase Hulk's sculpt is smaller than:
Magneto. While Mags is anatomically proportionate to the rest of the figures, his sculpt with all of the crazy energy effects and what-not is larger than the Hulk.
However, these figures are all appropriately smaller than:
The colossals, specifically Apocalypse and the two Sentinels. It is also worth noting that each of these colossals all have another regular sized figure as part of their sculpt, and that these regular sized figures are all to scale with the rest of the regular sized figures mentioned above.
All in all, very cool. I can only hope that this is the beginning of an ongoing process and that each set from here on out will utilize the same height and size index (provided by the licensors of course).
Does that help at all?

Now, there is something that I have a beef with - all the people who keep bashing the digital sculpt process. I don't think these people understand that the process doesn't really affect the sculpt quality at all. That is strictly up to the user (sculptor). The WK sculptors, from what I've read, seem to like the digital sculpting process. Everyone who screams that the sculptors shouldn't use this process needs to make a reality check. All of their laptops should be taken away and forced to make do with a pad of paper, a pencil & a calculator and see how they like it.

Thanks for that - much information that I had not been aware of. That really should help things stay somewhat consistant in the future. Can't wait 'til I get some X-Men in my hot little hands!

Agreed. I think there are far more advantages to digital sculpting as opposed to traditional methods.
Some of my thoughts on digital sculpting are summed up here:

Working in the graphic arts industry I can personally attest that the computer-aided process is much faster and, in most cases, easier to work with. Your points are well thought out and I agree with all of them.

And we appreciate it.

Yeesh. I think I'll refrain from posting in this thread.
Good idea.
It started out nicely enough, then devolved into yet another melee.

I read the interview and some of the following posts and then quit. The speculation and demands that are gonna spin out of that thread are going to be epic, I'm sure.

What plans does WizKids have to extend its brands online in 2011?
We're aggressively moving into the online space and we're well into development on a new HeroClix Online platform that will allow players from around the world to play 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.#The game is currently in testing and will release in 2011.#The platform is targeted at players that are either (1) too busy with life (kids, jobs and family) to attend an in-store event, or (2) don't have a store within driving distance.
