I've switched out the renegade for Cypher, roulette, and others but the renegade fits my play style. renegade buys you time to clear and/or spin gauntlet.
Other popular WL Flash teams are
WL Flash
Nightcrawler
either with gauntlet
WL Flash
WOS Bullseye
either with gauntlet
WL Flash is awesome, his one and only setback is that you cant push him once without landing on that horrible second click. This is easy to work around most of the time though!
Great ideas, buddy! Thank you!
Now, how would one expand any of these Flash teams (or others using him) to 400 pts? We play mostly 400 pts here, so that's what I've been searching for! And obviously, considering the new Modern Age sets, so no NC or Bullseye...
I think Earth Man is a better option than Leech, especially with all of the 'Cosmic' pieces coming out. But he ends up being a third of your team, and his keywords aren't very great either. I'm curious to see if he makes a strong showing at Gencon.
Leech has to be on the right team, ie paired with a cheap taxi to get him where he needs to be without hindering your own figures. He is a good option to lock down move and attack on opposing figures to provide some defense to teams that otherwise would have little. The reason I suggested pairing him with Runner is so that runner could run in, pop someone for EW or Flurry, run around a corner, and finish the turn by moving leech in to prevent move-and-attack retaliation.
Earth man is just too many points for what he does. He is a good figure but too specific against cosmic keyworded teams and also too easily gimped with opening toughness. Granted he has other things going for him but...i dunno, I just don't think he will be highly represented at gencon.
TK on first click, Prob, and Roulette can carry AIM Agent around when she gets on the Space clicks of the IG. Or can use Cypher instead of Agent. I'd be inclined to do this if not just for the possibility of an opponent's Cypher to take X-Men from so Runner has a source of healing.
IDK though...Runner teams may be better served w/o the IG, to use the 15 pts to fill out the team with guaranteed support powers.
I think he can make an impact if not just for the fact that he can HSS and Expolit together on bricks, or Flurry and KO support pieces in one go.
EDIT: Also, this one as well:
Runner 210
GGCTD Dr Strange 75
and now the conundrum...IG and which gem? I'd put the IG on Strange, but with which gem? Reality? But he gets Prob control.
I'd still go Reality. With Mind a close second (for the TK to pull Runner out if need be).
Or IG on Runner, with the Time gem (or whichever one gives super senses; I get the names mixed up XD)
The only problem with Runner and EW is if you run into someone playing Galactus or Ziran, they are immune to EW. I just don't think Runner does enough Damage to make him a tent pole.

guess what else is bad for the runner, the stranger team. I think we're going to see a lot of roll offs in this meta.
I doubt we will see any more then we have in the past. Stranger isn't going to sit there the entire game and hope for a roll off He is going to get to 2 or 3 on the gauntlet, then come out and fight. Hence why Thunderbolt Ross is going to see more play than I originally thought.
Just throwin this out there but my Magog + Leech team beats the utter crap out of the stranger team. Stranger + Barriers is good but certainly not an impenetrable line of defense. I think jonidshultz had it spot on when he broke it down into turtle and turn vs blitz meta, though there may be a grey area with hybrid turtle teams (Like my friend's cyborg supes team, he's a turtle without turtling). I dont see many roll-offs unless you get turtle v turtle paired
Krueger666,
anytime man,
George took WL Flash/Bullseye to worlds last year and had a couple shots at needing a 7 to connect but not a single attack was made the entire game. The other player was too afraid to commit with NC, so the game came down to a roll and George lost.
Now had George risked the 7 (exposing Bullseye), the odds are in his favor. He likely would have won the match. But the odds were barely in his favor. so completely understandable, the match consisted of an hour of positioning.
I think George was the only player with WL Flash/Bullseye and the team was in great position to take the weekend. I planned on running the same team as well but was traveling so I didnt go.
WL Flash/Bullseye IG is a great team in the current meta.
What held it back last year was the fact that Bullseye needed a 7 to hit NC
and the team lacked PC.
Now with the gauntlet, Bullseye can easily overextend risking retaliation and be confident he can connect on Metron or Nightcrawler. With the added PC and gaining SS himself. Also Bullseye can TK WL Flash.
WL Flash is also amazing with gauntlet so its a win win.
Both dials are still pretty awesome after taking GTR damage.
WL Flash/Bullseye IG is in strong position for Nationals.
Bullseye counters Chase Loki, Eradicator,Nightcrawler, stealth... a really strong figure for the current state of the game until retirement.
Another super solid team I posted previously but have had more time to play:
Magog
FF Supergirl
Astral Strange
IG w/Soul gem (on Magog)
indoor GG map. (the one with the strange starting zone that prevents any form of first strike. sorry dont have names in front of me)
I've always felt that maps are the most important factor in designing a winning team.
Now with the current state of the game divided between Blitz yo-yo's and TnT , in a competitive setting with timed matches this gives rise to the big 250+ beatsticks.
Meaning matches at gen-con will only be 50 minutes.
So everyone must be prepared to face:
Galactus
Runner
Imperiex
WL Sinestro
#202 Hulk
Chase Odin
And when I mean prepared, your team has to take stalling into account. For instance Runner,Galactus and Chase Odin are in great position to kill one figure or 2 and spend the last 20 minutes positioning defensively.
Many swiss army knife blitz teams simply arent prepared for Runner or Chase Odin slowplay. And if anyone has a problem with it, they shouldn't be playing competitive clix. its a real and viable strategy that should be respected like any other tactic.
We had a player get upset and throw a temper tantrum because his opponent was using chase Odin, killed Nightcrawler and ran from Metron the entire game because he was almost dead.
Its gonna happen, and Chase Odin is tough to defeat in this context (better than WL Sinestro no doubt)
TnT teams take forever to get going, so most of the time vs Stranger team, Odin kills one Renegade or 2 then lol's with a few minutes left on the timer.
I know a lot of players dont like the tact, but it wins championships time and time again. In fact, looking back, almost every worlds or nationals champion has been accused of stalling intentionally.
Can TnT prevent itself from being victim of a last minute renegade kill from Imperiex or Runner? not a chance.
someone earlier mentioned games coming down to dice roll offs.
its true. With so much TnT I bet we will see a few roll offs.
Some players will keep barrier up as long as they can. And vs a full gauntlet Runner or Odin (or whatever)the barrier team cant kill the tentpole fast enough in the end without losing a renegade or 2.
At which point for the barrier player, a dice roll off is better odds.
rant over.

Not going to address the entire post, that would take too long, but I disagree with pretty much everything you said.
First of all, nightcrawler / bullseye / metron etc are retired come gencon, and this is a july 1st modern age metagame thread, so none of those figures matter anymore.
Secondly, Galactus at 300 sucks and wont make a big showing at worlds, Loki and Odin are bad as well, same with Imperiex. They are good against your local scrubs when you slap a gauntlet on them, but at real high level play you need move and attack (or something that replaces it like NC did for metron).
Odin has 0 chance at killing a renegade in Odin v Stranger + renegades. 0, nada, zip, none. They rotate barriers in a corner every turn, declare their actions quickly, and unless you are a chooch who takes 10 minutes to "move" aka stall with Odin (who cant do anything but move because of the barrier, and Stranger is in a corner so how much strategy could he need without move and attack) then the game will progress relatively quickly until stranger out-gauntlets odin and then wins choosing 2 powers a turn. Odin has 0 ability to break a barrier and then shoot someone behind it.
I doubt we will see any more then we have in the past. Stranger isn't going to sit there the entire game and hope for a roll off He is going to get to 2 or 3 on the gauntlet, then come out and fight. Hence why Thunderbolt Ross is going to see more play than I originally thought.
I agree with you. This year's worlds will be much more competitive than previous years. And while Stranger + Renegades seems like a really good strategy it is not like Metron Nightcrawler.
GTR is a great solution to the barrier as is Matter Eater Lad and a number of other figs. I really do not think that there will be one beat all end all team. There are just to many counter punches. WHICH IS A GOOD THING!
I like the fact that I would have to beat a Galactus, Stranger+Barrier, Runner or whatever other combination people come up with. Playing against the same team over and over boring and annoying and is why people hated Nightcrawler so much.
