here's a possibility: 500pts. Cosmic/Space (think Alien)?
Thoughts? Suggestions? Please?
Or how about just 500pts Restricted.
Keep in mind you have 4 new players who do not have a large figure pool, and haven't had a chance to play the cool figures they already have. Build restrictions is not the best way to foster their playing skills or continued interest in the game.
This past Wednesday the new players had some confusion on what exactly they could play. They fielded winners such as Firefly & The Ventriquilist. During the first round all I heard was "ah I could've played that figure" or "I wish I was playing X figure instead".
There is also an onus on the veteran player group to encourage the new players development and not scare them off. Realize dropping E-2 Supes, or a 20D Strange Tank, or a Warbounded power combo is not the best way keep the new guys coming back.
That's the faith a judge has to have in his player group when he sets a tournament. And the faith a veteran has to have in the other players when he builds his team.
I would like that... something like 500 points, unrestricted, cannot use Humans (or creatures with human counterparts, like Hulk) on your teams.
That would leave all of the Marvel Cosmic pieces, Skrulls, Badoons, some of the Legion members, Lobo, a bunch of Demons, the Inhumans, the Asgardians, Kryptonians, Time Trappers, Mxlplktnik (?) and other such figures open.
I think you'd have to just let it be up to the players with that, and have them check with you if they aren't sure about a character's species. The Keywords are too restrictive on this one, especially since so many ALiens just have Generic keywords...
Could be very fun!
Make it interesting. Take out the Skrulls that way NO ONE shows up with Skrull-Vell/Warskrull/skrullowjacket.
There's still plenty to choose from. And you'd get a completely new contingent of pieces on the maps.

Yet you used a trick-shotted punisher.
I do agree with the above words. But I think its *hard* for some of you not to automatically throw in a feat that makes an already great figure really deadly to new players.
E-2 supes requires nothing more than 2 outwitters. Once supes cant move and attack, and cant imperv, hes dead. Not to mention the E-2 killers already exist (Darkseid, Prime, etc).
A trickshotted punisher, in your hands, is much more deadly than a regular player with E-2 supes.
[I also dont understand the tournament facination with Skrull MM. Herc + protected + 2 heavy objects +TK will bust up her fun faster than cops called to an underage drinking party].
Let the newer players play the asgardians. I dont see how the badoon/skrulls/infinity watch will be better than them.
"And I shall make little coins with my head on them and place them in the thongs of your strippers."
And back on Jeff's theme, I like it. I enjoy having the option of theme events, and with two or three venues in town, I think there's room for theme play AND normal constructed play.
I don't see the 'non-human' theme being too restrictive. Leaves all the Gods, Fenris, Bug and Rocket, Howard the Duck, and all kinds of options still open for newer guys.
If you're concerned about newbies not having enough figures, then we should plot an event that builds 500 points constructed, but there's a theme condition on the map, like, Space Map with infinity gems spread around or something. That's always bizarrely fun.

She is the "sore" spot on the ONLY DC comic I am currently collecting, JSA All-Stars.
7 clicks of Inp/Invuln? Thats one tough broad! Her HSS clicks are useless though.
Well. I'd like to hear from at least 2 other folks that regularly show up. Jim? Nick? Tyler?(no offense meant to Dustin or Charles) I certianly can do 500pts. Restricted and encourage the old guard to build with Aliens/cosmic. That sound doable?

None taken.
But I work till 5. You start at 5. Kinda difficult.

I don't want to play a game of chess where dumb luck or money decides whether or not I get to use a rook... Collectibility is a necessary evil of Heroclix, not a boon.
35 fewer points to put her and Wanda together, and I might play her. Then at least she might hit with that 10 and her opponents might miss all those 18's.
As it is, she's a wash.
