Intesting..... I've always been FOR retirement. Not to sure I like the No feats thing (especially after the creation of print-and-play). But since I am running a venue I DO have to take a stand on this.

The policy for organized play remains the same as it has been. We will continue to send format recommendations to venues when they purchase an Organized Play Kit. Venues can choose to follow those recommendations or come up with their own format to play. Perhaps your store wants to run Modern Age tournaments with Feats but not Battlefield Conditions. That’s ok. A Golden Age event that’s figures only? That’s ok, too. The local level will remain firmly focused on the venue establishing the best gaming environment for its players. While we definitely encourage competitive venues to run a series of “practice” events in the Modern Age format before GenCon, absolutely no venue is required to do so.
So I think that LSOM will be following the bolded postion until further notice (once Blackets Night comes out).
Well, "retirement" is history, replaced by modern/golden age.
Modern - Avengers & UP. NO feats or BFC's. Bystanders, objects and ATA ARE allowed.
Golden - anything goes
While I never abused feats, and usually only reach for one if I need to fill 5 or 6 points, some figures require a feat (like fortitude).
wow, I kind of agree with the change as there's a LOT of interpretation issues with the wording of numerous feats to new players, and it does simplify the game a bit more.
It really takes the piss out of competitive play, as feats were a 'necessary evil' that made a more diverse playing field. Now the competitive field is going to get bottle-necked to just 'good figure is good' as opposed to 'moderately decent figures, made great by feats'
Plus, feats were the buffer for a team you had established and needed to burn 5-20 points. Especially these days were you can't burn 10-15 points for a medic or a con artist.
Maybe we'll start seeing some support or decent abilities on Bystanders just to round out points. Or maybe we need to go back to making CHEAP figures just so you won't be stuck with a theme team that clocks in at 286 points in a 300 point game. At least the 'turtling-game' isn't as big an issue anymore in reference to point builds

Is contingency plan a feat "necessary" to make captain america competitive? Or does it make a great figure even better.
I think there are 4 feat catagories.
1 - Fun/1 use - a free shape change roll, or a free prob. No biggie. Also used when you have 5 points left and use a feat like lucky break or endurance.
2 -Situational feats - makes a bad figure competitive, or is needed to "save" a high point figure (supes prime with fortitude)
4 - Overpowered feats - The stuff no one wants their opponent to have. Nova Blast. Thunderbolts. Etc.
I think the situation where one team has a few points left (and plays unstoppable) is different from another team, which adds contingency plan, protected, and brilliant tactacian in a 400 point game. The second team was likely already competitive, but adding BT onto Dr strange, protected onto a brick, and CP onto Cap made them "maxxed".
"And I shall make little coins with my head on them and place them in the thongs of your strippers."

I wouldn't say Captain America would be a fair candidate for the sake of argument, as he's already good and Contingency Plan is like giving a ninja a handgun.
But take a figure like Mojo, the Infinity Challenge Professor X, or even Howard The Duck or Owl if you want something current:
Relatively mediocre figures that are enhanced by the use of feats.
With the new 'constructed rules', Leadership is going to be a power that, once again, costs too much on a figure for what little it does.

That's my point. You dont put CP on Cap to make him competitive. You put it on him to "max". You could have selected a bystander, or upgraded a Exp to a Vet, but the player "chose" to raise Cap to "broken" status with an overpowered feat.
There is a huge difference from puting mental shields on a fig to prevent feedback damage for mind control (necessary feat) and trying to break the fig (cap + CP).
But more often than not, the person reaching for the feat is using the "break" feat rather than the "necessary" feat.

Seriously, I'm taking a "wait and see" attitude toward any changes. The game will still be fun as long as it keeps evolving and has some balance while still nurturing a competitive environment.
I just don't want what can be perceived as luck to be a main factor in winning or losing. Feats were a component of balance that permitted players who may not own "the it figure" to have a chance. If the game changes where feats are no longer needed for balance, then I have no objection to their demise.

probably a good move on their part. While it does no something to make some figures less competitive, the issue with feats has always been that they improve the figures that were already good even more than the figures that they were attempting to boost. Con Plan tokens could be spent on e-2 superman, just as easily as they can be spent on a Power Pack kid. Feats are needed less now with the advent of special abilities... but if they do ever decide to bring them back,I'd like to see point caps on certain feats to make them more useful for, generally, the little guys.
