A tentpole piece that just doesn't stand up well in today's modern age game.
After the 2004 Riots we changed our build for the game to a min/max team. We added in comunity, campus, and PD for a synergy that has worked really well to defeat the tentpole. We outwitted the BCF (drunken debauchery) by hitting alcohol offenses really hard all year long. While at the same time doing a lot of education and fostering a sense of community among the PD and students. The students and out of towners know we mean business when it comes to consequences for alcohol and the problems that result. We prob controlled 'em by working closely throughout the year to get VIESHEA back to it's roots of being a week long family event instead of 2 nights of Mayhem. The plethora apartments (yuck) that have sprung up around Ames has also helped to cause the house party's to dwindle. We perplexed up our defense with a date change that has VIESHEA a little earlier in the season which has translated into cooler weather (not sure if that was the intended effect but it has helped), generally keeping people from wanting to run around crazy at night. Positioning of the team on the map was important also by moving most events away from campus town to the North end of campus where we have more control over the map and can separate out the support pieces (drunken students on Welch Ave) from the tentpole piece. It probably helped that VIESHEA was cancelled in 2005. Rule 1 the judge is always right. This caused some troublemakers to graduate. By now most of the students don't even know what a hard partying VIESHEA is like, consequently they don't miss it. Most of our problems still stem for out of towners. I for one do not miss the riots, having bricks thrown at me (and connecting) was never a fun time.
This post wins. Now if you start posting in here I can claim to have a fellow Ogre playing at my venue.
