Any day now DC should be retconning it so that the current Black Canary is the granddaughter of the 1940s Canary. In 2009 it's just as implausible that she's the daughter of the 40s Canary as it was in 1983 that she actually was the 40s Canary.

Exactly, which is why I hated that retcon to begin with.

It's the bsic problem with continuity-oriented comics that endure.

Oh, now. You've got to have continuity. Without it, writers and editors feel they have free reign to do whatever they want, and we end up with comics that longtime fans don't want to read and that won't generate any new longtime readers. (And yes, this is another rant on Quesada's Marvel.)

And I remember Marvel's comeback: "The old Marvel. We're still great."

Say what you will about Jim Shooter (and I do), but the man had a sense of humor.
