O.K. this is turning into a totaly different trivia thread. I don't recall an engineer before Scotty. Dr. Phillip Boyce was before Bones though. Made like 3 episodes early on.
I'm not sure he was shown in the early episodes of TOS, but he was briefly seen in a clip used for "The Menagerie", and also, of course, "The Cage". That was Captain Pike. He had a jumpsuit on I think.
It's been awhile since I've watched it.

One of the perks of being a dad is you get to watch all the cool new kids' TV shows; they're a lot better than the stuff we had in the 70s! One of my favorites is Back At The Barnyard. That show works on two levels; it's about talking farm animals, which is a children's aesthetic, but a lot of the situations and dialogue are thematically skewed to adults. One episode in particular, "Pig Amok", is a clever parody of a classic Star Trek episode.

Right there with you CC...though I am a BIG fan of Phineus and Ferb...there are just as many jokes for the adults watching as the kids and it's just funny.
(Side note...took the kids to Astro Boy last night...it was great).
But I've corrupted my children so completely they love to watch the OLD "stop motion" Marvel TV shows from the 60's...they LOVE both the Hulk and the Captain America shows from that era.
Just wondering...do we have a question or have we just totally degenerated?

I think my fave parody of Star Trek was on Eek, The Cat. And Bill Shatner was in that episode poking fun at the character of Kirk and how it wouldn't work today because Kirk wasn't Politically Correct.

My problem with today's kid's shows is that they all seem like 30 minute commercials for products. Watch Dora to find out what new toy will be released. I had the same problem since the 80's. Like GI Joe and Transformers. They were all basically advertising toys while still being a show. Get your new GI Joe tank, as seen on the cartoon.
I couldn't find "The Cage", but I just watched "The Menagerie" and found no referance to another Engineer. I think I confused the guy shown working the transporter for Pike with Scotty working the transporter for Kirk and assumed that the one working for Pike was an Engineer, but it was never stated as such, so I guess I was wrong.

If I could find "The Cage", maybe that'd have it.
I will find out. Local video store has both episodes. It will be a good break from the B movie weekend I have planned. Never watched Plan 9 from Outer Space before but with a new MST 3000 movie coming out featuring the Ed Wood debacle I feel I must.
When our story opens, the Question is investigating an impossible locked-room murder mystery involving a midget and a 6'6"-tall call girl into heavy bondage. Don't worry, I'll explain later. It's all vitally relevant.

Not now, Wyld, can't you see we're all busy watching Star Trek... Except CuCr, he's watching a mash-up of Star Trek with a Judy Garland movie. It's called "A Star Trek Is Born".
