I don't want to play a game of chess where dumb luck or money decides whether or not I get to use a rook... Collectibility is a necessary evil of Heroclix, not a boon.
Today at Oasis was 400pt Constructed. Tested out the Alter Ego mechanic to see if it was viable or not. Here is the team that I played: Dr. Doom - Starter
TMac Batman
Agent Brand Clark Kent
Jason Blood
400pts
The concept was too Mastermind the damage from Doom to the AEs to put them on the AE power, then give them an action to switch figures. A secondary mechainc was to use the Phone Booth to get them to their AE power and then activate them. This worked best with Clark to get him to Perplex turn 1, and if need to upgrade to Superman TA on turn 3.
The team went 1-2. It lost to a Thor/Loki + Feats team and a Strange Tank team. The win was due to a horrible matchup against Doom (the Stealth shooter versus non move & attack bricks from HoT).
There are two main problems with the mechanic: 1. The figures have too few clicks of life. The base figures have 4-5 clicks of life and the AEs have only 3 clicks.
Doom is getting hit for more than 4 clicks of damage when facing a brick/tentpole. They burn right through the base figures and KO them. So you can't Mastermind to them to activate the AE mechanic. When facing a smallball figure like Cap or Iron Fist, he is only getting hit for 3 and the mechanic works. But a normal Doom WC abuse team tears through a smallball team anyway.
After the figure is activated, the 3 clicks of like is too limiting. For that point slot, that figure has to secondarily be a tie-up piece to save Doom. When they based the opponent, the get KOed in one attack. Not even a 2 attack staying power hurts.
2. The figures are too expensive for the support and powers it adds to the team.
For Clark, 48pts is too many points to pay just for Perplex. Then when he activates, he has one shot to take offensivly. For Jason, 44pts is too many for PC that doesn't do anything else. Not a flyer, or range to attack, etc. Also, as Mastermind fodder it is too many points you are giving up for a KO to save Doom. That should be reserved for figures less than 25pts.
Bottom line, the Alter Egos are a poor mechanic. They do not work with a Mastermind figure. You can't play more than one on a team. The one that you choose to play does add support power(s) and a TA for Wild Card use, but is a liability defensively and no assistance offensively.

ugh. Well, I think I'll skip out on this one. No offense to whoever made the format, but I generally dislike the Duo figures, and sold most of mine off. I can see making a fun team out of one, but a whole team of them? Pretty much all big guys, and none of them can be carried. :P
Will try for next week. But here's the team I made for the event yesterday when I thought it was just a single Duo Fig requirement. I really liked it, and will have to try it another day:
199 BB Superman and The Flash
10 IOF008 Swingline
25 AVF003 Fortitude
10 LGF003 In Contact with Oracle
58 OR203 Ray Palmer
64 OR070 Mister Miracle
59 OR086 Sandman
70 LS001 Lightning Lad
5 SIF004 Loner
500

The Inhuman of Team Vegas,
Black Bolt of the Vegas Illuminati
I think Jason has the best potential just for the ta. Does Clark have super ta? I know Bruce does not have a ta. So for wc abuse teame Jason provides a ta from the start and when he goes demon he also adds perplex .
I would think he'd make a good partner for doom because of the ta though maybe not in 300.

By 'the kids' you mean this 28 year-old guy who, yes, rolls amazing crits with TMac.
Yup as I said kids. If you say So-Co (southern Comfort to those of Caucasian persuasion) and Nat Geo (National Geographic) than you are slang using, "in a hurry" and gotta ghettoize EVERYTHING folk. Then Yes you are part of the problem and what is wrong with this world.
Just my opinion and I've lived long enough to be entitled to it.
Are you looking to show off your collection or just an excuse to have Chariot, BA/Shazam, or Thor/Loki date rape a newb?
The other regulars are excited over this upcoming event and I have made available all my extra Duos for use for those who don't have enough Duos. And no I am not excited to show off my collection. I am excited to use Devil Dinosaur, contrary to popular belief this is a "game", meant to have fun it doesn't have to be a "competition".
if you read this then you lost 10 seconds you'll never get back.
