I can't believe the Devil Dinosaur player didn't look at the other players and do this:
I did:speechles
I played the first game of T&L with Will/Platinum against Brian's Dino team. It was rather lopsided, so we called it and I played a double Bat/Cat with Fire/Ice; B/C both had Protected and F/I had Construct. Looked like I was going to win, but the game turned and when it did, it turned FAST. Lost the game and gave Brian my Construct feat simply because he needed one.
For the record, I posted to all that knew when 400+ team build is available, I HAVE TO play T&L - after all, how often do I get the chance? With my hisory of rolls, playing T&L is NOT a guaranteed win - just for fun. I think the other two were playing for a kill shot.
Somehow, knowing that Jim was one of the players.......that makes it all good. I know of your rolls. And I don't blame you one bit.
A local player over here, Deacon, has your rolls or worse. He never wins. Ever. I have to talk him into playing something dastardly just so he gets the chance to win. I give him all the credit in the world because he doesn't yell, scream, and punch things when he rolls his rolls.
I played this today for a Black Lantern:
Devil Dino & Moon Boy
The Bat and the Cat
Mr. Miracle and Oberon
Diana Prince AE
First Class Iceman (m&m)
And no one showed up. I ended up playing against the store owner's son but it didn't count. So no Black Lantern. No nothing. Utterly disturbed. My lone chance for some heroclix goodness and nothing. Wind is out of the sail.

That is very, VERY lame. You should have wielded DD&MB like the lethal weapon they are and demanded the black lantern!

I can attest to this. I've played Deacon several times, once at WWLA, and his rolls are bad. He's got skill but never gets over that perverbial hump. Karma from another life...
I do remember one multi-player game the three of us got into after the Fan4 pre-release. He made short work of Dave's team and was kind enough to leave Vet Mysterio to my shiney new DoFP Wolverine. He was witness to the very first Blades Mysterio for 6!
I don't want to play a game of chess where dumb luck or money decides whether or not I get to use a rook... Collectibility is a necessary evil of Heroclix, not a boon.
The Big Guns were out today in force at Oasis. The top 4 ranked players, plus Eric made it 5 of the top 8. Nick showed up ever ready to do battle. And a first timer Damon, who got a very traditional Team Vegas welcome. Sorry kid, trial by fire and all.
Format was 400pt Floor. This is what I played: Kid Zoom
+ Maneuver
Talia - Uncommon
+ C Plan
Jason Blood
War Machine
Lightspeed
399pts
IMO, at 400 Floor you either go one of two ways. Martian Manhunter, BA/SHAZAM, or another 200+pt Duo. Or Kid Zoom to counter all the bricks. I went Kid Zoom and boy did I guess right.
Three Martian Manhunter teams were played by Eric, Charles, & Nick. Dustin went a double Inertia, Max Mercury, & Blondie (Skrull Marvel) HSS team. Justin fielded a Checkmate theme team that had a respectable showing.
Round 1 I drew the new kid. It went as you would expect.
Round 2 was against Charles and the JLI. With Manhunter being gimped it made Kid Zoom his primary target. By the time he hit Kid Zoom, War Machine & Talia had done considerable damage to the rest of the team. And were in position to counter-punch Manhunter after he hit Kid Zoom, taking him off his HSS clicks.
Round 3 was against Eric and a typical Eric team. Manhunter, Cap, Marvel Girl, Lightspeed, Question, CPlan. Turn 1 he split his force; Manhunter & Marvel Girl on one side (trying to set up a TK standstill shot), and Cap & Lightspeed on the other side of the map. Went bold and moved my team to the center of the map (Crash Site). Outwitted Caps Shiled Tragectory. He took his shot at War Machine and hit but didn't survive the counter-punch. With Cap gone it was a matter of picking apart the small figs while maneuvering Talia to keep Outwitting TK. Eventually turned attention to Manhunter and took him out.
I ran three figures today that I haven't played before. Here are my thoughts.
War Machine
A running shot brick if there ever was one. Has loads of staying power and is offensive throughout the dial. The 12 movement is great for RS, but even better as a 10 movement ferry when your staging your team. That's how I got Talia into position to Outwit Cap against Eric.
For all the great aspects this dial offers, its downside is the one that's the biggest in the environment right now. A starting 10 AV. If CPlan was legal, use him in a heartbeat. W/O it, buyer beware. You are going to miss more attack rolls and for some karmic reason, that 18 Invlun won't hold up against the opponents dice rolls.
Builds with him will need some anti-stealth mechanic since he can't see it. Much better at 400 than 300, but workable at 3.
Kid Zoom
This figure is worth the points. That white power of his is that friggin' good. It nerfs way too many mechanics in a power level environment. And for all the talk of how players would "deal with him" when using Blondie or Manhunter or Valkyrie, two words...you can't. The counter mechanics of playing them as a stand still shooter aren't good and you can't get to him with an attacker or an Outwitter.
And keep in mind he has a 13 movement and can make viable attack rolls for 2 damage. He delivered the KOing blow to Cap and got cheap points from Charles' pogs. Plus pushable to his second click with the Incap power, handy against those now standing still bricks.
Seriously thinking of how to get him on the Spurs starting lineup.
SuperBats Talia
Bubblehead and others kept telling me this figure is great and I needed to give her a shot. Well I did....
She's annoying, but not a great figure. I put her in that "I don't want to be bothered with" category. See Crisis Nightwing. When you look across the map you think, "darnit I have to deal with that". But you deal with it and move on. She adds mechanics to the team but none are game breaking and/or can be gotten from someplace else.
She needed to be mobile to use that Outwit and to set up her shots, so I teamed her up with Lightspeed. Basically adding 50 more points to the Question/Lightspeed unit just for the ability to Outwit a Stealth character. It's nice, but not worth that many points.
She took and made a good number of attacks today. But that was more of a factor of Kid Zoom & War Machine were bigger threats. In fact, she was basically ignored in all 3 games. Being able to Mastermind and or get pulled out with Lightspeed helps. Most figures are better if they are never targeted in a game.
I wish she had a 3 damage. The PBlast is nice, but when targeting a non brick, she just pecks away and an 86 point character needs to be able to do more.
Bottom line is I would rather get those mechanics from other, more cost effective figures. She is a good option for Floor, workable at 400+ games, but not a go to figure in my box.
Read t- bolts today and boy was I pissed. What the f did they do to Songbird's hair. I like the new team and all but thet ugly hair had me upset until....

Agree on all accounts except for Talia. Kid Zoom just stops the other team if there's any HSS. It's bad and slow and painful. War Machine did the same thing. THat 18 D was sliced through. Badly. I mean, the dial is great, but the same thing happened to me. Maybe he's jinxed?
As for Talia, paired with Lightspeed they control your map. Yes, in a higher point game, you obviously have to worry about other pieces. But I still think for what she can do for your team and thwart ANY piece's ability to do whatever. I think that is a winning combo. Especially in 300.
Maybe
U Talia
Lightspeed
SR Valkyrie
Other point filler/useful piece
Maybe generic Valkyrie for Support?
A holiday break in the middle of the season is the perfect time to go all sports analist and break down the first part of the year and hand out some mid season awards.
There are 18 players who have attended 4 or more tournaments since the beginning of the year! An additional 13 more have attended at least 1 tournament, with most coming to at least 2. I'd say that clix is alive and well in the valley.
The Top 8 is dominated by veteran players as you would expect, but maybe not in the order you would think. Is it a factor of logisitics and what tourneys players attend, or can we finally start to quantify play skill? You decide, I just record the numbers.
A newcomer from Kansas currently holds the top stop. Like the WWE title, it has changed hands numeroures times, but has been pretty consistent between Dustin, Charles, Justin S., & RPW the last few months.
44 tournaments have been played at the 3 venues. With the majority of the wins, 31, held by the Top 4. The Captain leads the way with 15 wins.
Seven players have 20+ round wins showing their playskill and dedication to attending multiple tournaments at multiple venues.
Brett has come back with a vengence and shown he is more than just a KC Flash / Ambush Bug player. Going 7-4 in limited playing is very respectable.
Battlezone Justin has shown he is the best of the post HoT new players. Racking up 22 round wins with 2 tournament wins. He beats the newer players and holds his own against the veterans. He still has much to learn, but it's only a matter of time.
Juan has proven it's not how many games you win, but just win them all at the same time. Three tournament wins with a sub .500 record is very impressive. Is he the new Jack???
Austin had a hot start to the year, but has cooled off. A staple in the top 4 during the first two months of the season, now he is sitting right at .500. Get those grades up and get then get your head back in the game.
And then there's HBK. What a year he has had so far. A .619 winning percentage and 2 tournament wins with a limited playing schedule. He has turned a brand new venue into a fun and stable environment with a strong player base (and incidently a great place to meet women ). He gave us the Chase for Throg. And most importantly he got his Team Vegas moniker and is keeping the memory of Shawn Michaels alive and well. The Illuminati trails are coming soon...be ready.

400pts. Unrestricted ATA's
at least TWO figures on your team MUST be assingend an Alternate Team Ability card (wildcards do not fill this requirement, but can still be on the team). REMEMBER: Any ATA released in HOT and BatB work off keywords and would require EVERYONE on the theam WITH THAT KEYWORD to be assignend (pay for) the ATA.
I will build an example or two and post them here in a minute or two.
Here is an example of a Theme team where (by using a generic keyword) I didn't have to assign the ATA to all 6 figures.
400 pts. Checkmate theme team
Fire and Ice 131pts.
Inside Info 4pts.
Count Vertigo 74pts.
Mam Marie 73pts.
Roy Harper Jr. (Crisis) 53pts.
Checkmate pawn-White 29pts. Checkmate ATA 6pts.
Checkmate Medic (V) 19pts. Checkmate ATA 6pts.
Blue Lantern 5pts. (ups the range on Freez R Burn to 10)
400pts.
And here is an example of a specific keyword theme team where I got away with assigning the ATA to only 2 figs due to the wording on the card (only figs UNDER 50pts.)
