Actually did not watch SIZZLING BACON on Netflix, tempting as it was last night, and instead took in Gattaca. I still love that movie, particularly as aspects of it seem to be getting closer.

The Gattaca movie always leaves me with mixed feelings. It's a well crafted movie and it's an enjoyable man vs world tale. But I have issues with the message. His parents were #######s, and he puts the lives of others at risk by going into space with a heart defect.
They don't let people go into space now with heart defects, so I'm not sure why it should be a significant plot point in the movie.
Additionally it's not about him being from a poor family, his parents could afford the procedure and still wanted their son to face discrimination and have genetic weaknesses. It would have been a much more rewarding story if Vince was born to destitute or invalid parents.

Actually, he didn't have a heart defect, but there was a chance he had a heart defect, was my impression. But yeah, his parents were ########.

"Bigger, Faster, Stronger." Solid flick of which the message is basically "Yeah, steroid users are cheaters, but so are all of you to one degree or another."
Longest-Reigning Drunken HeroClix Champion - anyone got a liver?

I thought he had a CHD but it wasn't one of the bad ones, but would still restrict him from going into space. It's been a bit you'd know more as you just saw it.
Captain America: Winter Soldier. freaking LOVED it. i like how Marvel is making superhero movies very interesting without having to have that whole "superhero" feel to it. Yes this is a Superhero mive, but it really didn't play out like one IMO.
For anyone who thought that Robert Redford's character, Alexander PIerce, was just a different name for Aleksander Lukin,
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
sadly, it is not
There are two credit scenes. The mid credit one teases Avengers 2, while the end credit scene is just some character time

First of all, I have nothing against your opinion just wanted to express mine as I have the same thoughts as you did when I first watch Gattaca. Let's just say I'm just placing myself in the shoes of the character.
"he puts the lives of others at risk by going into space with a heart defect." Try to imagine this, your parents didn't think highly or care much about you. You generally lived a life where everyone treats you like a reject. Would you still care if you put other people in danger just to achieve your dreams? I have come to accept that his character was portrayed in an acceptable norm given his condition.
About his parents. I've read too many books, heard too many stories, and seen enough news to accept that there really are people like them. In fact, there are people who are much much worse.
On topic:
Just saw Hitman on cable. Remember it was based on a computer game? I didn't like this movie before but it's funny that I actually enjoyed it this time around.
Also, regarding Gattaca, if they can send people into space with business suits and sitting in relatively normal chairs, I don't think the heart issue is really that big a deal compared to the current space program.
Anyway, saw Winter Soldier, best Marvel movie yet, imho.

Funny. Touching. Good performances from the main cast (and supporting crew). Not your typical Vince Vaughn goofball comedy. A very feel good movie. I enjoyed it immensely.
Trade to Canada. We're friendly, and we love Beavers..........
Saw Nymphomaniac Vol 1 this weekend in theaters with a couple friends and my girlfriend. It was honestly like nothing I had ever seen before, and I'm not even talking about the explicit stuff. It was a fascinating blend of humor, shock, drama, and life. A pleasant surprise given von Trier's typical dark DARK tone (although I'm guessing Vol 2 is going to be where it comes off the rails in that regard). It was definitely von Trier's best film and I can't wait to see Vol 2.
Obviously it isn't for everyone, but if you've enjoyed any of von Trier's movies, or are even the least bit curious, you'd be doing yourself a disservice skipping this.
Saw Vol 2 this weekend. As I had predicted this half slipped more into the darkness that von Trier is more known for. It didn't have the same "pop" as the first half, but certainly moved along quite well. I'm thinking this has more to do with this film essentially starting halfway through the second act, so it's almost entirely falling action, as opposed to the build up of the first half. Maybe one day I'll watch the full four hours... maybe.
The Lego Movie was so much fun. Not sure how I felt about the plot twist at the end (it was the weakest part if the movie, IMO) but it was still a great ride and would strongly recommend it.
