May've mentioned this already, but Monday we cut the cord with satellite TV and we've been using a Firestick and Amazon prime (+ some apps that allowed us to "break" the Firestick and find just about anything). LOVE IT.
Caught the first couple "The Man in the High Castle" and the kids are loving Fireman Sam, a Welsh/English cartoon.
The best thing about it is that my wife no longer just leaves the TV on all day whether sh's watching it or not.

Why would she leave the TV on all day?

NO idea. She likes it for background, I guess, but it makes a legitimate impact on child brain and communication development, and in the short term it makes everyone talk a little louder, a little easier stressed (at least the 3 yr old and me!) and just wastes hours of TV life.
Anyway, now that you have to make a conscious effort to watch a show, I figure it's going to be on much less.
My theory is that some people leave the TV on all day because of their lack of interaction with other adults. This can be especially prevalent with stay-at-home mothers.
If anyone is looking for a good cartoon for say 2-8 yr old kids, Fireman Sam is pretty awesome. Good enough that we decided to look up the original series. Found out it has been on since the '80s as a stop motion show for like 18 years, and only the past 9 or 10 as a cartoon. Thankfully the old series' super thick accents were changed for the American showings. Not that I don't like Welsh or English accents, but they were prohibitively thick for young kids in the US to understand I think.
Word.
Is Fireman Sam something you watched or was it not in your bailiwick?
Too old for Fireman Sam but did see an odd episode of Thomas the Tank Engine when it first aired & more recently with my Great-Nephews.
It was the likes of He-Man,Transformers & Thundercats I just about caught after getting home from school. Fireman Sam & the other Stop-Motion (at the time) series was possibly on around noon or just before the aforementioned cartoons.
