I am not certain he's alive, but I hadn't heard about him dying, either. I do remember Johns changinf the character of one of the brothers (Jack, I think) to drifter/loser, which I don't care for. Jack was the alpha-male of the family, which was always nice to see somebody who out-masculined Hal.
