Hey, I thought i was the only one that put those little round stickers on the tops of my figure bases - only I use red. Very nice, webhead, & nice article.
I don't have 65+ positive feedback (325+ on eBay) because I stink! My Trading Thread has non's, U's & LE's from CD, AW, Icons, FF, Legacy & more! My eBay Sales has new clix & sets listed every Sunday!

I will say, I'm not trying to "take a stand" on Con Artists in the article. I was merely trying to recount their history in the game. I wrote it the way I remembered it. I've also went back and looked at the early threads, and the general vibe was "too bad it's not front-loaded" or "hopefully there is cheaper Pulse Wave to go with them"...the people that were talking about having 10 or more on a team were talking about pushing them the old fashioned way, and others were pointing out that it would take too many actions. Besides, I did say "That would SOON change."
As for JonL's statement...he's admitted it was a flawed design, I'm not sure what else you want to hear. My understanding is that the Con Artist was not included in Universe because they wanted her in it, but rather because of the way the molds are set, she was a side effect of having the Hand Ninjas and whoever else in Universe as well.
I am sorry. I was harsh with that statement, and went off without my internal stupidity filter engaged.
My recollection was that "by any menas possible" people fielded conartist by the ton. multiple con artists and avalanche became THE theme of XP as soon as precons became available from day one. True PW was not the great power it is today, but avalanche got you Barrier as well for a low cost. I fully understand that figure usage is different from place to place/region to region. But it is simply NOT a true statement that Hooker Bomb started off slow everywhere.
I have heard the mold thing before as to why the con artists were included in Universe, and having that come straight from the horses mouth would have gone a long way in explaining the conartists inclusion in Universe. When the whole retirement/Universe thing came about, EVERYONE questioned why the con artists were in. So glossing over the real reason while including the extreme disappointment over the piece by Wizkids was an oversight in my opinion.
Again, I am sorry I bashed your work in that way. I should have been more constructive in my criticism, and not such a jerk.

There is a small difference, though some would tell you otherwise....
NO!!!!! From day one, Wizkids said they will not retire figures. We saw how true their word was with respect to that statement. sSo why not jsut break their word again and solve a problem.

Could you give me your source for this statement. Everyone I have talked to said that they would never ban figures and "retiring" figures was WK's way around their statement.

Don't stress it, basically the abuse started quickly as sengirv stated, but he should have taken a step back by realizing that abuse was mostly regional. Not every area, or even most, hit the nail on the head immediately. In the SF Bay Area it ran out the door almost as soon as Xplosion hit, with Sentinel / Nightcrawler + Hooker Bombs already making the rounds by the time of the Marquee. While there are undeniable bragging rights about the track record of the area's players, the bottom line is just because something is abused at a regional level doesn't automatically make it a problem in dire need of a solution. Sometimes a real problem is identified. Sometimes its just a regional quirk that doesn't stand up to more general competition. While the problem is regional, all it should merit is scrutiny and concern, not immediate action. Its not until the abuse is demonstrated at a national level that it can be definitively labelled as a problem. And that is something that *did* take a little while to develop with Con Artists.
As for Con Artist herself, I will state, as others have (including a certain level 5 ex-envoy ), the problem isn't the figure, its the power. If Perplex on the cheap was truly recognized to be a problem by the designers, DEO Agent would never have seen light of day (pardon me JonL, but if 11 points for Perplex is broken, what makes 18 points for Perplex, Support, PD, and a token ranged offense ability "balanced"?).
Simply put, Perplex shouldn't stack. PERIOD. The more time that passes, the more the dwindling "Perplex isn't that bad" defenses gets left in the ditch by the tournament results roadside. Feats and BFCs are trying to address the issue, mostly by providing alternative means at the same abuse (addressing the problem by potentially making more problems - balance through escalation).
Change Perplex so it doesn't stack. Then extend its duration to match Outwit, so that it can viably be used on opponent's figures LIKE THE POWER DESCRIPTION SUGGESTS ITS FOR!

Warzone and Radiation Leak for medics, sure, but Connies?
only earthquake wipes them off the board and you dont exactly roll 1/1 or 1/2 all the time...there's a 3% chance of hitting that.
Scared might not be the right word, but Earthquake, Darkness, and most importantly White Noise can cause serious problems for a Con Artist centric Perplex team.

Heh, I thought I was looking at my own figures in that Pic. I use those little stickers, and I also use Blue.
Not only does it help define ownership in crowded melee, but it also helps keep me from mixing up my regular figs with my extras (and accidentally trading away my only copy of something.)
I haven't run into ~anyone~ else using these though. Hopefully if I do, nobody'll accidentally take my figs home with 'em.

IIRC, BroMags has stated that they plan on releasing base sets for Marvel and DC every two years, if that is true, that would mean a new set in 2006 for Marvel.

if WK simply read their own rules hookerbombs would have never been a problem. perplex changes combat values. what are combat values? they are the numbers printed on the dial.you can perplex 2 damage all you want. it can only increase by 1 point.end of story.
