Great article and thread! This also makes me wonder about the price point of Heroclix in general. As a for instance, I bought a case for 25% off retail with 8% sales tax coming out to a total of around $311. I know I could buy cheaper online, but I'm paranoid when it comes to getting what I'm supposed to and for that reason, I don't mind spending the extra $30-50.
Now I think for Legacy, there are 3 uniques really pushing the secondary market - KC Lantern, KC Flash, and Ares whom are all selling around the $25 mark. The rest of the uniques in the set usually sell in the $10-15 range. In my Legacy case I pulled 2 Ares, no Lantern, and no Flash out of my total 9 uniques. (I'm counting Steel) So averaging the secondary uniques to a cost of $12.50 I figure my total unique secondary value comes out to just under $140.
Also with the case I pulled 80 out of 84 REV's trying to complete one base set. Looking at the seconday market and making my best estimation, I figure that this has a value of about $70. From my doubles, I had about 55 REV's for another base set and estimate this value at about $30 (much lower as it has less rares than the first base set above) This still leaves me with with about 43 of the more common figures that I estimate their value at about $.25 per figure bringing this estimated value up $10 more.
The case also included 4 Super Rares with an estimated value of $3 per SR. Total - $12. Now with all that said, I estimate the secondary value of my Legacy case to be about $260. That's a $50 loss, but assuming I bought every thing on the secondary maket I also have to factor in the shipping costs which I think evens every thing out.
Whith all this said though, I think that the MSRP is too high at $7.99 a pack. I think this will be a bigger concern with the 3 figure per pack for $7.99 Fantastic Forces comes out this summer.

That depends on your Unique pulls. The non's from Legacy are worthless. The only REV sets I spent more then $1.50 on were "Circle of Terror" (tm) Batman and "WTF" (tm) Joker. I was fortunate and pulled 2 GL's, Ares, RR I pulled no Monguls or Zods. I know people who got pulls like the following:
Mongul x 2
Zod x 2
Oracle
Ultraman
Hawkman
Prometheus
That's not $220 well spent. Especially since many cases did *not* contain a Veteran Batman.
I used to be an avid case buyer, because you could eBay away your extra REV sets and keep the uniques. Now the REVs are worthless unless you pre-sell. It's just cheaper to get a set piece meal.
It also helps when you pull 4 uniques out of the other 6 loose boosters you buy
In my case I cam ewithin 6 nons of a complete set of REVs and pulled 9 uniques. I had 2 Red Robins and 2 Flashes which provided me with decent trade bait. My theory is that I sell whatever extra full REV sets I have in lots on Ebay. Then I use the rest of the extras for the trades to complete my set of nons. Whatever is left will also sell on Ebay in Lots. I'll total it all up in the end and see how I come out.
Since I am a completist my choices are the above method or buying a full set on Ebay. If the difference between the cost of my case and what I make on Ebay is less than the Ebay cost of a complete set, I lose. Don't think I will though.

Yeah, in the Silver Age DC always used an "O" at the end of villains names, like the ones you mention and Starro. I think it was in the culture in the late fifties and early sixties - alot of consumer products did the same thing, like "Brillo".
In the same vein, Marvel used a "-us" Latin ending instead of the "O" to make Galactus and Annilhus sound more important.
Ol_tod - you should try to put this info in print. We need a current price guide for all Heroclix, and from what I see the research and network of information you're building is the best out there.

Well,
Your estimates depend on when you sell...and are a little low...
I just this last week sold 4 KC Flash each for $34.95 and Ares was $39.95 Easy that first 2 weeks....The Super Rares still bring closer to $6 than $3....And in the first weeks were above $15 for Several of them...The REV sets RIGHT now are going for $70 and if you had 55 out of 84 you could start trading for the second set, but this is coming from someone who does a HUGE amount of eBay and Buys Many Cases at a time. As I have said in many other threads..If you spend enough...Your Set can be free...The old saying " You have to spend money to make money" Is still Very true Today!!!

Mr. Savage
Yeah, your probally, but I don't have the time or capital to buy and sell mass quantities. And now with Legacy selling out, this will drive the prices in the secondary market even higher. I still am concerned about the price per pack especally with Fantactic Forces impending release.
