Typically, I feel that once a character is dead they should stay dead, but I was mainly referring to the manner in which they were brought back in the books. Colossus and Bucky were written as never having been dead to begin with. Jason's resurrection due to Superboy Prime throwing a temper tantrum and accidently opening the door between life and death? Ok, whatever....... Psylocke I'll agree with you on though.
Come on man! Bucky WAS dead. It was a defining event in the history of Captain America. To bring him back, and then say he was never dead to begin with , discredits anything that Cap has done, while carrying the weight of his death around, and using it as a motivator. How could you view him never being dead, as better than the way Jason returned? It takes away from some of Cap's lore, just as making Gwen Stacey Norman Osborne's mistress takes away from from Spider-man.
And as was mentioned, what make you fo the return of Hawkeye? I 'm still waiting for the explanation on this one, as I'm in the camp that believes that he was never really dead to begin with.

I'm pretty much enjoying all the titles involved with IC/OYL. Even Manhunter (Who knew Obsidian was gay? And HOT? Do you think Alan Scott will accept me when Todd brings me home for Thanksgiving?)
And on the Marvel side, Civil War is actually PULLING me into Marvel.
Eh. They're just comics. If I had a problem with characters coming back from the dead, I'd stop watching Soap Operas...

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but you'd be naive to think they weren't at least planning to cover their bases knowing it was a possible outcome.
Simply said, it'd be smart planning to at least write Conner out for the time being, whether or not they think they'd win or lose. That way, if they win, they bring him back, if not, then immediate plans would not be in jeopardy due to suddenly losing his rights.
Why would they kill off Conner if they lost the rights to Superboy? All they'd do is stop calling him Superboy and just use his first name.
"Hey Superboy lookout"
"Hey Conner lookout"
not really a big deal... It was the rights to the name. Not the character. It'd just be like when Marvel won the rights to Captain Marvel. They just retitled the book Shazam.

Of course, the same thing was said about Blue Beetle.........................and that seems to have panned out.....

It would seem to me that they've managed to keep Blue Beetle around by killing Ted Kord.
They obviously can't kill Superman, but can kill the Superboy currently named Clark Kent (ie: Superboy-Prime) and then bring back a different character named Superboy (ie: Connor) and get around any claims the family might have on the character.
In other words, they've got 'rights' to the character of Superboy that's named Clark Kent but I'm reasonably sure that DC's got the name 'Superboy' trademarked. So, you kill that character that they've got rights to and suddenly they've got no more claim. Get what I'm sayin'?

so what are you saying?
do I, or do I not have to white out the name on my REV Superboy? Or do I have to mail them all off to the Siegels? And will they pay for postage?

Trademark and copyright are two different things. DC can own the "Superboy" trademark, but hte Siegel's own the copyright. DC can't publish a Superboy character without licensing it from the Siegel family. Of course, the Siegels can't publish Superboy elsewhere without infringing on DC's trademarks either. THe most likely scenario should DC's appeal attempt(s) fail is that they work out an amicable licensing deal with the Siegels (including retro pay for things like the "Smallville" TV show).
This is what's lead to the speculation that the "Supernova" character debuting in 52 is Conner's new ID.
Well, he wasn't gay until now. Back in Infinity Inc, he had a girlfriend. And then in JLA (during the "classic" Nuklon, Icemaiden, the Yazz, and Obsidian era), he refused to define his sexuality. He refused to be pigeonholed as straight or gay or bi or anything. And I liked that characterization of him. It was an interesting take on people's perceptions of other people's sexuality. For example, even though Nuklon was seriously turned on by Fire (or Icemaiden, I can't remember which), she just assumed he and Obsidian were gay lovers since they hung around together all the time.
I liked the idea of a character with noncategorizable sexuality. Maybe that will be played up again with Obsidian, but I fear he has instead just become purely-gay so that DC can have another clearly-identifiable-as-gay character, rather than a more interesting (at least to me) character whose sexuality is uncertain even to himself.
