I'm looking to pick up some cheap trades of Invincibles at WWe this year. It gotta be cheap though because I was not feeling the first issue that Image Comics allows you to preview on their site.
I know what you mean. I have heard lots of good things about Invincible, but I can't stretch the budget to get one more monthly title. However, cheap TPBs would fit the bill nicely. At first, I thought I'd stick with only trades for The Walking Dead, but my need to know more compels me to keep up with the comic. I agree that the current storyline has been kind of weak, but it's interesting to see how dark Rick's going to become and what may come of it. The fact that his wife's pregnancy is coming to term and how the group deals with it will be good reads, I am sure. Also, I don't think that we have seen the last of the Governor and his gang.

Sad as it is, I had to cancel all my pulls due to the new baby. Now all I keep up with is Exiles through my subscription from X-Mas, and the occasional TPB. I have tons of back issues to read yet so I'll be fine on material to keep me busy. I think I might even buy a subscription to X-Factor and Uncanny since those stories have been strong even though I don't have any strong attachments to more than a couple of the characters.
I think the Gov will come back. My guess is that he'll be maimed and come back only to be killed by Michonne and then his reanimated body will somehow take a chunk out of her crazy ###. I think Rick isn't far from going nuts. Interesting how he was the likable hero and is now an unlikable pseudo-villain. The pregnancy will be interesting. I liked the wedding thing. Not sure what the deal was with the bodies changing weight. It seemed like alot of focus went into that dumb little detail for it to be insignificant. Could be a Red Herring though. Anyway, I'll see in 6-9 months when the next trade comes out.

I must've missed this. Enlighten me, please.

That's one of the many nice things about the Walking Dead. Because it is owner-produced, they get the trades out a lot faster. The last few trades have arrived within a week or two of the last issue they included.

Tyreese & Axel were disposing of the bodies after they cleaned out the prison. They made comment after comment about how tired they were and that the bodies seemed to be getting heavier. I thought nothing of it since it could have been their muscles getting fatigued, but then they mentioned them feeling lighter sometimes and heavier other times. Tyreese said it was probably because not all people weigh the same, but I'm thinking that although his theory makes sense, often characters in this book make untrue assumptions. Either way, it just seemed like a lot of attention placed on body weights when the subject seems so trivial.

Really? Trade #6 was said to be released in February and just got to me. Maybe it's a screw up at Amazon, but my local shop hasn't had it either.
Huh. I didn't pay any attention to that little detail. But, with everything else going on, I'm wondering if it's even something that Kirkman will come back to to investigate further.

Well, I'm not sure what happens after issue #36, (I don't want to know yet) but I can see where he'd have plenty of things to go with as far as plots that would trump weight shifting zombie bodies. I could also be focusing on something dumb. It just seemed weird to revisit the topic pages later. It could have been in the next issue for all I know since I can never tell where one ends and the next begins.
Whenever I read her, I hear James Earl Jones. Wierd.

Whenever I read Michonne, I just hear Marsellus Wallace voice.........
I don't hear any voices when I read comics. What is the Marsellus voice telling you to do? Does it want a royale with cheese???

: Yeah, we cool. Two things. Don't tell nobody about this. This #### is between me, you, and Mr. Soon-To-Be-Living-The-Rest-of-His-Short-###-Life-In-Agonizing-Pain Rapist here
Walking Dead reminds me a lot about Lost for many of the same reasons you mentioned (ie. character driven, no one safe, lots of shocking developments). By the same comparison I think both series should end sooner than later.
Most of the action in this sort of survival vs society stories generally revolve around melodrama, something which can only be taken in doses before leaving a bad taste in your mouth. Having experienced the same desire to follow Kirkman's work I did go out and get all the WD TPBs (now up to #6) and have gradually started losing interest in the story. Some stories are best left short and sweet.

I recall this too and thought it was odd, but figured it'd be brought up again later on. Kirkman does this a lot -- build up several plot lines and may not get to them until much later (if at all). But he does usually get back to them (except in one case involving the Shrinking Ray in Invincible).

Developing multiple plot threads simultaneously is usually a sign of a good writer. Look at Claremont back in his day.
