Good cards. Of course, Warbound looks like Exhibit A for why bystanders haven't been given keywords. Which I was fine with in the beginning, but a card like this shows WK was actually ahead of the game on this one.

Okay, maybe not my Atom hockey puck.
To me, that makes them *far* better prizes than most of the figures I've gotten. I'd take the cardboard from this set over the entire LE run from Mutant Mayhem, no hesitation.

I think it's a great idea for the same reasons, given my discontent with the set line-up anyhow. Outside of Gorgon, Box and Chamber, I didn't stand much chance of seeing an LE I'd really want anyhow.
Matter-EaterLad Snack List: Time Gem, Remaker
Etrigan Prime Transformation List: Blackhawk Pilot, Per Degaton
I thought they were going to do the LE's of the four horsemen. seems like another missed opportunity. oh well.

Nice collection of stuff. Something for everyone. For those that don't like the set itself the cards will be more sought after than the le's. I'd have prefered not to see protected back, but at least it will be less prolific as a prize card. Cool bunch of le's too. And that event dial is darn impressive even if it doesn't end up ever getting used. Now just to keep my fingers crossed that judges get all of these too.
I just don't see the point with playing a game with such a diverse background and flavour as Heroclix and such a massive pool of pieces to choose from to limit yourself to playing dupes or the same character over and over.
I kind of like the split of LE's and Cardboard. My first reaction was: "What are they thinking. Stinking Cardboard for prizes!!"
Then I read the cards and they are not bad at all. The least useful being shockwave and placed on the correct character can be devastating to another teams plans.
Warbound is a great accompaniment to the Theam Team rules. As most people will strive to make keyword theams anyways, this card will se a lot of play.
The vine is cool. I think it is pretty well balanced. Your using a power action to heal 2 damage max. Shoot thats more balanced than Nanobots.
Also its an immobile object. So can't just TK it under someone so they can heal.
Protected: We all know how great this card is. Not to mention how hard it is to get. I opened about half a case of Armor Wars and never pulled one. I wont pay the secondary market price so this may be the only way for me to get one. I also think this will limit the over use in the tourney scene.
I do have one complaint about this whole nine week event. Why oh why is every event 300 points. Please WizKids loosen up your reins a bit and let us play how we want. Give us some larger formats or just let the players decide their own point values.
Who is the more foolish? The fool, or the fool who follows him?

Immobile objects have blue rings. The vine is a light object.
Well son of a gun. I guess I just saw the blue on top of the card (I know all objects are blue on top of the card) and my mind just made the ring blue too. Oh well.
Still if you want TK it under someone so they can heal that is still actions to only heal 2 clix max. Still seams balanced to me.
Thanks for the heads up though.

Agreed. I love mixing up the events at the venue I judge at. Everybody loves a big 800 point game every now and then, or a multiplayer, or a scenario-based game, or the monthly "story-based" (except not really) campaign game.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it's not another nine weeks of sealed (I'm sealed out, thanks), but variety is the spice of clix as the saying goes, and this isn't variety so much as vanilla ice-cream wearing a selection of three different hats. That simile may have gotten away from me.
well, i hate it when i have to go to secondary market to get some cardboard for my collection... feats with alternative illustration like protected : okay, exclusive feats for tourneys : NO
i don't go to tourneys, and i want my feat collection complete, so that's just annoying for me
very annoying
as i'm a completist, the more difficult they make my full collection be (like they did earlier with chase figs) the more i'm likely to stop collecting, and just pick a few pieces i like.
the more difficult they make the game at being collected, the more odds they will loose clients that will be disgusted at how pricey it is to collect
collectors are completists, they either get everything or nothing
if it's too difficult to get everything, well... i'll soon get nothing
i do play and collect, but believe me, it's better for wizkids to have people collect because collectors need to buy more pieces than players. Players just need some cool figs they like and some powerful figs than wins to play.
collectors always need everything around a theme, or even everything edited so far...
too much exclusivity, and especially chase figs or cardboard things to collect makes it difficult to get it, and can go AGAINST their sells.
i don't like it
I will not play a sealed event for cardboard. They used LE figures for prize support for years and I don't see why they can't continue to do so. Four LEs for a set is a joke.
I'm going to stick with my reaction of disgust to the prizes. Special cards is a novel idea but for outlasting a series of opponents for 3 rounds a hunk of cardboard is a pretty lame prize. I mean sometimes tourneys can be intense and to fight that hard for a reprint of Protected is just lame.
10-2-08 I just put a bunch of stuff on eBay including a numbered Super Skrull Illuminati and a CoG Galactus. Check it out.
I don't know dude, a Protected card sells for a lot more than any of the regular LE's from the past few sets. So getting a shot at another copy is cool in my book.
Although that shockwave feat is pretty craptastic and not really worth the effort, but still its always nice to play a good game and walk away with something even if its not a figure.
All that said though I think I would prefer 4 additional LE's of figures (Remy LeBeau, En Sabah Nur, Dirk Garthwaite, and Carl "Crusher" Creel would have rocked) instead of the four cards, but oh well hopefully by the next set LE's will be back to normal.
there basically forcing sealed on us without saying it.
i just hope my local won't conform to this flaming pile of bood filled horse diarrhea
What? No. No, they're not. They're forcing you to buy the set and use the pieces from it in order to play. You would probably do that anyways. You have two sealed games with three weeks in between them. The rest are 2/3 floor, 1/3 constructed. Thats cool.
As for the people confused as to why Protected is swimming around in the prize pool: when they retire Armor Wars, and its gonna be soon, the ONLY way that you will see Protected in constructed events is winning it here. They are making it so that the card is not proliferated, keeping it in the game, while curbing its use. I think that balances out the mechanics of the card nicely. And to the people who are saying #### off to playing for a card they have: do try to think of this as being your only "in" for playing Protected in constructed instead.
Overall, I like this setup. Granted, if my venue is going to ask me to pay to play for a feat, I'll be annoyed, and will consider not playing for the first couple weeks, but whatever. I think the floor setup is perfectly fair, especially with constructed still around, and its gonna make trading a lot easier actually knowing what I got in all of my boosters (save for the two in the second sealed game). Though...that Planet Hulk event dial is weak sauce. Granted, it can do awesome stuff, most likely, but if you and your opponent have to agree to play it, you might as well just have your venue hang onto it for whenever you feel like playing it. Besides that, though, cool feats (action token mastermind ftw), cool LEs (all practically guaranteed to be awesome), and a fair play structure. Things are looking up.
