You know, they may be retired (and hopefully burned) but I can picture in my mind big ol' Colossus chuckin' multiple Lian Harpers at every fig within ten squares. The funny part is when you picture Colossus chucking a little kid at somone like.....say, the giant Ultimate Hulk......and KOing him.
"Hulk's been beaten by a 6 year old travelling at speeds in excees of 90mph!!"
Priceless. I'm going to love these kinds of stories when they happen.
They won't happen - you can only throw characters that cost 30 points or more.
Also, another nice Unrestricted trick: Put Shakeoff on Living Monolith, throw him to turn him into a Giant, then do a breakaway and deal some damage that is not affected by FBS.
I appreciate this article...but I don't feel the love for either this "special white FBS" or the 158-point Colossus. Bottom line for me is that it is a LOT of points (at least 188!) for an attack that is only guaranteed to do damage to your own character. You can fit hellamany other figures into the mix and accomplish more.
IMO, the real "strength" of the special power is that Colossus can "throw" objects (that he is not holding) 10 squares (from where they start).
I agree completely - when I build a 300 point X-men team I'll likely pick the DR Colossus over this one - who seems well suited to 500+ point games where he has plenty of backup & ammo. That said - it won't stop many of us from trying especially considering Colossus is a Common figure that meets the FLOOR requirement by himself.

Have to say, Katana definitely deserves honorable mention status, and for the love of CARP, V METAMORPHO. You insist on the E [and have in other threads], and I can understand that he is more featable because of points saved. But to pay 10 points for +1 AV, DV, AND Damage should be considered over Shapechange. Especially if you're going to add Camoflauge, which lowers the point differential from 10 to 2, and is also relatively unreliable [he has to be next to blocking terrain].
Arguendo of the Beige Lanterns (Pedantry Corps)
Feb 2015: JL Trinity War has have given us the CSA, playable and together. Twice. ROCK ON!
REClixed: Justice for Dmitri Pushkin (your sacrifice will not be forgotten)! New generic Rocket Red @50-75 points while we're at it? Still no 19DV Defender? (WoS Groot doesn't count)
Power Girl AND Bust.
Bouncing Boy-come on he is a ball for crying out loud. Dodgeball anyone?
Secondly, V. Banshee. I listed this team in Unrestricted format.
400pts.
Colossus 158
+Armor Piercing 10
V. Banshee 90
+Nova Blast 10
+Endurance 5
V. Sunfire 75
+Cont. Plan 12
Marvel Girl 40
BFC Communication Breakdown.
Mutant Theme team.
First off, Armor Piercing makes sure that Colossus gets through Impervious and Invulnerability.
If you are using Communication Breakdown, then use it against your attack value. Then it cannot be modified. So once you throw Banshee, after he takes his click of damage, he would still have a 9 attack. Also once he takes that click of damage, he loses Psychic Blast for Pulse Wave. He can immediately make a Pulse Wave attack, triggering his Nova Blast, which uses unmodified damage value. So he is Nova Blasting for 3 damage. This is where Sunfire comes in, he uses Contingency Plan to add to Banshee's range giving him a possible 11(6 with Pulse Wave). Banshee also doesn't take the pushing damage from Nova Blast thanks to Endurance.
Enjoy, and watch your opponent cringe. I also have changed out Marvel Girl for SR Scarlett Witch to give me another chance with her Prob Control.
The adventures of Pete and Pete continue as Peter Parker makes it onto the list again, and - surprise! - shares another Keyword with Peter Rasputin. In this case It's Armor. Pushing Spidey past his 17/Invulnerable/Outwit click may seem counter-intuitive but trust me, it's worth it. The Fastball power puts him onto his Webbing special power, which means he can dish out 2 tokens to his opponent with an 11 attack no less. Alpha Flight him to get a +1 AV bonus, and here's a nasty trick: have him carry an object before he gets tossed and drop it under him as he pushes to that second click and loses Super Strength. A Shield Disruptor will lower the opponent's defenses (spidey's too... ) while a Laser Turret will give Spidey an additional attack that round.
I can see that working reasonably well, actually.
On turn one, Spider-Man moves, grabs an object, and Outwits whatever seems most dangerous on your opponent's force - HSS or TK, most likely.
On turn two, Spider-Man Outwits your opponent's damage reducing power. Colossus uses Fastball Special to throw Spider-Man, dealing two clicks of damage if he hits; Spider-Man drops the object in his square (Shield Disruptor, Laser Turrent), and then pushes either to do two damage or to use Webbing.
That leaves Spider-Man with a hittable 16 defence, but Shapechange gives him a decent chance to avoid attacks. If he does get hit then he's got Leap/Climb and Super Senses to get to safety again (taking his object home with him ), and if he stays safe he can Flurry instead.
Nice!
Also, another nice Unrestricted trick: Put Shakeoff on Living Monolith, throw him to turn him into a Giant, then do a breakaway and deal some damage that is not affected by FBS.
Something else I realized about the Shake-Off Monolith trick: When you are doing a breakaway anyway, you may as well make a Running Shot - Monolith may have a 0 damage thanks to the FBS penalty, but Energy Explosion damage is not dependent on damagevalue but rather of the number of times a figure is hit - so you'll deal 1 damage as long as you roll high enough.
Add in some Armor Piercing to enhance the effect of both Shakeoff and EE and we're in business!

It's by no means an end all-be all list of Fastball Special candidates. Feel free to submit your own top ten list candidate by posting below.
But since you brought it up:
Not a bad choice at all - especially if Colossus targets a "soft" opponent - one Cap is likely to KO with his first attack and activate his SP getting a free attack in the same turn!
I generally don't look at the Avengers Captain when building a team - mostly because of the sculpt that threatens to blind me whenever I stare too long at it.

Nice Read..
One thing also.. Colossus can't FBS giants.. they don't have the uhh "kapow" damage symbol, so Living monolith is completely out of the question.
One thing I also don't understand, why is the stunning blow on Ronin listed as unreduceable?
Oh and one more thing (this is edit #3), Why no hulks on the list? It's a great way to bypass the activation click, or Have the Hulk uhh.. hulk up more... And If he's hit with a retaliatory hit.. Well it tends not to matter as much on a Hulk piece as he just gets more scary.
Great read though! I really want to try the Rookie Shazam trick!
Agreed with the Giant thingy... Giant's don't have the Starburst damage symbol and it would be odd to see Colossus throwing 10 times more sized character than he is.
Colossus: "O-o guys, it's Galactus. This will be a tough fight to all of us!".
Cyclops: "If you would throw one of us the damage done to Galactus would be much more greater."
Wolverine: "Agreed".
Moloid: "OK guys, enough said. It has to be me! I mean, i am the KING OF DAMAGE!".
Colossus, Cyclops and Wolverine laugh all together.

...This is true. However, when a Giant has Earthbound (as with Living Monolith) he loses the Giant damage symbol and gains the starburst symbol. As has been mentioned several times already, in the article and in this thread, Colossus can FBS an Earthbound character that is normally a giant....

...sigh.
Not to mention that the MOLOID
CAN NOT
WILL NOT
AND NEVER WILL
GET USED WITH FBS!
He doesn't meet the prerequisites for the power.
Sometimes I wonder - if everyone bothered to read the rules would we even need judges at all?

How about Black Panther as the ball? Does this work? BP Perplexes up his own AV, Colossus chucks him, hits the target, clicks to 2nd click, Outwits the opponent's defenses, attacks with B/C/F with a 9 AV (-2 but still +1 for the Perplex).
A 17 DV with toughness is not bad, he can use Leap / Climb to get out of Dodge if necessary, and who knows what he might have as a Wildcard power (well, X-men for one!).

It does not work. The effects of Perplex end if the Perplexed takes damage (or is healed) or if the Perplexer loses Perplex. If Colossus FBS's BP, both happen.
On the other hand, 8 AV with B/C/F is not too shabby either.
One nice thing about Colossus is that you can have a limited TKer on your force without having to have just a limited TKer on your force. When perhaps facing Poor Teamwork without an ignoring theme, Marvel Girl is pretty much useless... but Piotr is still valuable.
In fact, has anyone checked into this - It appears Colossus would have no problem with the TK Strain card, as he would only be losing a single square of TK range from his SP with that card in play... but what about Poor Teamwork? Since he's treating the friendly character as an object, and TK Option 3 never mentions targeting that object (your target is the opposing figure), can you still use Fastball Special as normal with PT in play? Food for thought.
