I don't know. DC has tried to 'fix' Batman before. Passing the Mantle to a new hero who becomes more brutal than Bruce. Doesn't anyone remember Knightfall? Great series. followed by Prodigal another attempt to pass the mantel. (this time to Dick Grayson) Another great run. Finally in Batman for ever the really passed the mantle, but all the good stories were about Bruce not Terry.
DC has continually tried to push Bruce out, but he'll be back. There is only 1 Batman

If they go ahead and take Wayne out of the mantle of Batman, I will no longer have any need to read DC comics at all, as Batman is all I get from them now. And Thomas Wayne being a live is lame. And putting Jason Todd in the Batman mask is just an insult. He sucked
The only, THE ONLY, person I would recongize and respect wearing that cape and cowl is Dick Grayson. And he has worn it before.
The only way I see them ever bringing the Waynes back is by Ra's al Ghul using the Lazarus Pit as he attempted to do in the JLA comic. If he did that I could see Batman going crazy, getting careless and then being killed, but I will be highly disappointed if they did bring him back.
Of course, it could be that Owlman's father gets put on Batman's Earth and kills him because he mistakes Batman for Owlman. Batman is shocked to be facing his 'father' and in that instant of indecision (I know, this would be uncharacteristic) he is killed.
Or this could just be a nasty rumor meant to upset the fan base by a jealous Marvel Zombie.

Of course we know that Tim Drake willtake up the Mantle of the Bat at some point. If you believe that the Teen Titans reveals the actual future, then he should be Batman within 5 'comic years' or so.

It will be revealed the arch villain Libra who's body was absorbed by the universe is none other than Thomas Wanye. I don't know how Bruces will die but HE WILL DIE and after this happen he'll out himself as Batman. Since you ripped off my SPOILER a Lazarus pit will be used to bring him back so he can take the mantle of THE DEMONS HEAD which he'll use to train an army in the use of the YELLOW POWERINGS. Why yellow because as Batman Bruce was the master of making people afraid of the "Knight" now augment that fear using Scarecrow's gas this makes each warrior even more powerful and you can't do that with Green Lanterns. Also Darkseid would never dream of finding Bruce Wayne training an army of lethal killers armed with Yellow Power Rings to defend the Earth from his Invasion

Actually, you were refering to brining Bruce back, which I think would be a horrible mistake on DC's part. I was refering to bringing Thomas Wayne back, and that due to the length of time he was dead and the side effects of the Lazarus Pit as well as other factors, he would become Libra. Libra was disipated throughout the universe as energy back in the 70's. The Lazarus Pit seems to have a finite amount of time to revive a person once he/she is dead. Since Thomas Wayne has been dead for a looooong time, it is conceivable that his body is revived and Libra possesses it since there is no mind to resist him.
I'll try not to take offense at being accused of plagerism or idea theft.
welcome to a lot of why things have happened in DC of late
i swear the DC event stuff has been pure garbage in general, and morrison is just his usual hack writer self. stick with geoff johns for good DC stuff (and rodgers and ordway)
Morrison...hack...these two words really don't belong in the same sentence together, unless it's to say "Morrison is not a hack."
Particularly when trying to say Ordway's the better writer...eck.
Anyway. All of this reminds me of the Batman rumors that were flying around when One Year Later was announced. Remember all that talk about how Bruce Wayne was going to be confined to Arkham Asylum while Dick Grayson played at Batman for a time? Yes? No?
Regardless, the rumors were flying around. And what became of them? Nothing. While some authors make me wary of what they might do, I have full trust that Morrison will write something that's just fine, fine, fine.

You know, there's something to be said about DC and their faculty for moving on with characters - at least in a legacy manner. Green Lanterns, Flashes, Green Arrows, Blue Beetles, Robins, Black Canaries, Atoms, etc . Why leave Batman exempt from that (outside of being a ludicrous business decision)? It gives the DCU at least a vague sense of time actually passing.
No one dies (I mean, I don't read Marvel but we're all pretty secure in assuming dead Captain America was just a skrull, right?) - the people who were supposed to be the pinnacle of staying dead in comics all came back in the last couple of years (bucky, jason todd) - so who cares?
kill them, don't kill them - we all know they're going to be back eventually when profits dip.
I sort of wish there was a (super hero) comic that bothered to recognize the passing of time, the evolution of life and the absolute nature of death. Wouldn't that be refreshing?

You mean like Earth-2-related comics before Crisis on Infinite Earths?

Bucky only ever "supposedly died".
And Uncle Ben is still wormfood after all those years... 'Course - that may change as long as Joey Q is still around.
Point of order: Countdown #2 Darkseid's dead. Granted it's comics and NO ONE stays dead. That or they could say well it's a future or past version of Darkseid. But that would be completely hack, so they'll probably do it.
Actually, we don't know that Darkseid is dead, on the other hand, he appears to be a major villain in Final Crisis. We know that someone who looked like Darkseid was killed, but I suspect it was part of his plan to avoid being killed by the Source.
