YER EVER-LOVIN' PAL: At the beginning of your turn, if the Thing is adjacent to one or more friendly characters that have one or more action tokens, roll a d6. On a result of 5 or 6, you can remove an action token from one friendly character, or two friendly characters if they and the Thing all posses a single common keyword.
Actually after re-reading this, it could be interpreted as being this: To activate this power, Thing must be adjacent to one or more friendly characters that have one or more action tokens. This allows you to roll one die.
This then allows you to remove an action token from one friendly character, or two friendly characters if they and the Thing all posses a single common keyword.
One could interpret a disconnect between the two sentences. That is, the friendly adjacency activates it but adjacency does not restrict it because it does not say specifically that the characters who have the tokens removed are adjacent
This also means that, since adjacency is irrelevant for removal, Thing is good to go on removing one from himself
This is the most flagrant abuse of rules lawyering yet. MeatLoafX, you're an absurd abomination of a person possessing common sense, and all those that think this was the intent of 'Yer Ever-Lovin Pal' should find a small dinghy in a large ocean to hide on until this gets corrected in the next E&C. The Thing is already the single most powerful figure you can field for 100 points, why would he possibly need to be more borken?
Do you really want this game to become one dimensional again? Black Adam and pit-crew style? The Thing will be the ONLY figure you can be sure to see on EVERY team if his power-set is ruled this way.
I don't fraggin' care what the card SAYS. This highlights the fact that since a REAL RA is no longer present, we have to suffer through the intolerably non-sensical and indecisive waffling of the infamous nbperp. Grow a set. Make the call the way the power SHOULD have been written, and stop all this weasly language super-scrutiny which will completely cripple the entire applicability of Special Powers. As soon as "GD" realizes there's no possible way they can word something so that some IDIOT won't misinterpret and try to abuse it, they'll just stop creating special powers. Man, one bad apple to the nth degree!! All we'll get from this point forward will be Flurry and Charge, or Hypersonic and Stealth, etc. Just use the diagonal slash with 2 colors like MageKnight did and call it a day, for crying out loud. That seemed to work REALLY well for that line.
I for one intend on standing up for the meaning behind the wording by forbidding The Thing's power from being abused in the ways mentioned in the previous posts. If you want to remove tokens, they better be on someone adjacent to The Thing. And NO, you are not adjacent to YOUR FREAKING SELF!!! &*%^$#!!!

Exactly. That's how I read it when I first saw it and how it was ruled by the RA when brought to his attention. It's not an absurd ruling, though I can understand how some disagree about the intent.
Either way, The Thing is a great piece and was a proud MVP on my GenCon team. Only loss in the 4 constructed rounds was to a Shazam/Strange team. Good times.

I don't think it's a bad thing to ask questions, but you should be more solutions oriented instead of what you came off like, which is a whiny, Negative Nancy! If you want respect for your opinions, learn to show some...

It'll be interesting to see how this gets ruled since Seth (who designed this power) is no longer with Game Design. I'm hoping that it's ruled that the adjacency is required throughout (which to me is the only thing that makes sense). However, I've seen things like this go either way (even when the intent was pretty obvious).

You know, as a professional teacher who teaches children how to read, I'd like to say a few things.
1) Not everyone reads and comprehends the same way. We can ALL interpret things differently when reading the same text (heck I got into a fight with an English Lit Professor in college when he said Ernest Hemingway's "Cat in the Rain" in an allegory for wearing condemns )
2) Some people can read two sentences in the same paragraph one after another and even though the setences may be related in idea the reader WILL NOT or CAN'T pick up on that. (BigSoph also pointed this out).
What this says to me is that someone needs to write these cards with a little more clarification........and maybe hire someone with an actual writing background to proofread them.
Leaving a card too ambiguous can lead to a ton of different interpretations because we don't all process information the same way.
So in closing get out of the MEAN MOBILE and have fun playing the game

Thanks. That helps. I thought going for the "most quotes outside the OP" was a contest that needed reviving. I've calmed down.
Truth be told, I love The Thing. Re-reading the whole thread and listening to all your arguments and the most current breakdown, I feel my initial interpretation may have been ... ahem ... incorrect.
To put it simply:
Trigger: adjacent friendly figure with token.
Effect: Remove a token from a friendly figure.
Bonus Effect if friendlies possess one of The Thing's keywords: Remove up to two tokens from such friendlies.
I like it. I REALLY like it. As my first post stated, I foresee a long dismal period wherein Brute, Fantastic Four, and Soldier themes dominate. Yes, I feel this power is THAT good. Make note, this roll can be affected by PC. Note also that Warbound teams will abuse this. Note also when we look back, from the distant future (or my high horse) that, "I told you so". Can't wait till this is retired. Until then, Long Live The Thing!
I will close with this; when is someone with some foresight going to start laying down the text for these things? Don't they even READ the cards once they've developed them? Wording like this and others of late make abuse possible. Stop the abuse. please.

I hardly doubt this is that big of a deal. Its probably situationally difficult for this to occur. With Things full move charge power most of the time I willing to bet he is being carried and his taxi has the token at the start of the turn when he doesnt or he has made his full move charge and seperated himself away from friendlies.
Tell me MeatLoafX since you used this team at GenCon how many times do you recall removing a token from both the Thing and some other figure on the opposite side of the map?

I am not sure that would necessarily.
Imagine....
Designer proofs the card interprets as written and says the card is fine.
Proofreader read the card (but interprets it with the opposite meaning) and says the card is fine.
The only way this would work is if the designer actually playtest and demonstrated the mechanic to the proofreader and only if the proofreader interpreted the initial reading of the card in a different way then the person who wrote it.
"A Jester unemployed is nobody's fool." - The Court Jester "And so he says, I don't like the cut of your jib, and I go, I says it's the only jib I got, baby!
It doesn't come up often, but a few times it did work out.
My team was:
The Thing w/Protected
Winter Soldier w/Protected & Infiltrate
V Blackhawks w/Contingency Plan
V Skrull General
R Kree Warrior
I'd generally move up The Thing (often on the Avengers map) near the tank. I'd move up the Kree Warrior next to him. I'd fly up Winter Soldier to somewhere stealthy. Next turn, if I made the roll, I'd clear the Skrull taxi and The Thing, which let me position again without pushing either one. If I failed, I'd just rest them and move other pieces.
It doesn't happen every time, but it is useful when it happened. I'd say I made the roll maybe half a dozen times over four rounds - but it was useful every time.
(and I wouldn't use my theme PCs to reroll that sort of roll, so on a theme team - when you're clearing 2 tokens - chances are you won't have PC available. You're looking at Soldier, Brute or F4 teams only if you want to remove two tokens.)

When this reign starts let me know, I would be glad to see a reign of teams with the FF keyword.
Unfortunately instead we get Kid, Teen, and Spy with Warbound and Protected - YUK!!! (Check out the top 16 at GenCon those are your dominate teams). Any team that knocks Shazam and SIF off their high horse is fine by me.
Also I dont recommend you put Warbound on this team it doesnt do anything that the Thing cant already do by himself and the mere suggestion completely deflates your entire argument.

That sounds like a refreshingly cool fun team to me. Hardly broken (IMO), but just enough pressure to apply to the rather abusive Warbound Shablam! teams. The only thing you seem to be missing is SIF counters, but its hard to have everything on a team these days. Congrats on doing so well (I have some first hand knowledge how tough it can be at GenCon - having finished top 16 last year, maybe not World caliber, but certainly pretty tough matches and good players.)

Are you kidding me??!?!?! Where in the nine hells do you get off speaking to us like....*rereads post*.
*ahem*... As I was saying I would like to commend you on the civility of the post and offer a hearty congrats on the much improved change of tone. And I must say that I do agree with most of what you said. The only item I'm uncertain about is your proposition that Thing will become extremely dominant in the competitive level of competition. At 100pts, he doesn't quite exhaust your team build total, but he does consume a healthy portion of it. And while there are quite a few soldier keyworded figures in the current restricted environment, I don't see any 300pt grouping as being 'borken' even with Thing's SP.
I need your help in finding where the RA rules on it since last night I told the guy that the figure (the Punisher) cannot have three actions in a row and had his token removed thanks to the Thing's SP and the Punisher has been attacking my teams! Unfortunately the judge allowed and guess what? His Punisher really punished my team so bad!! 6 actions in a ROW!!!!! yes!! the thing was adj to the Punisher and he kept rolling 5/6 and the Punisher chainmachined! (the total damage was over 20 - Critical hits twice.) I just had to swallow it hard in pride.
