Used him today in a modern age tournament, DC only 400 points. Teamed with Dianna Price (AE not LE) and Jason Blood to wreak havoc. Prob any attacks I missed, and had Dianna to fall back on for support.
Drevin...uh, yeah. I know that. He's vulnerable to Exploit Weakness as well - any penetrating damage. Ulik's defense ability is still better than Prime's, for way less points. Prime needs that ability and a 19, and then he'd be worth 318pts. the way he is now, you might as well field the 238pt Crisis Supes.
It is a silly comparison to line then up 1v1. Prime is 200points MORE then Ulik, so if Ulik could win there would be something seriously wrong. Prime would run circles around him, HSS and Ulik would NEVER be able to base him. Superboy would almost never miss an attack on Uliks horrid Defense, and IF Ulik DID ever hit Prime could reduce it to 1, negate it, or reduce it by 2. But Prime is an amazing piece, but I stand by my previous statement and for the cost his Defense NEEDED to be higher.
"This is THE WORLD! Not that you would be able to see it or even feel it, since time has stopped..." Need Batman-family clix
A lot of people tend to play Prime like Gary Busey in God-Mode. Just hitting anything or anyone in range, regardless of positioning or potential dogpile. Unfortunately, he's no where as powerful as he was in the comics. In Clix form, he's just too much of a liability taking on more than 2 figures at a time.
Besides that, here are some really redeeming values though. One, he's perfect for knee capping all of your opponent's team. Take advantage of his Indomitable Defense trait, and cap off anything that can be a threat to the rest of your team. Two, he's great for hit and run. You're playing a figure that starts with Hypersonic, don't give your opponent breathing room. Three, you can literally base one your opponent's most powerful Clix and will probably walk away with easy points. He's just too overwhelming in one-on-one, unless it's some Con-exclusive colossal figure.
He's solid in all areas except Defense. Superboy Prime is capable of significant violence, and he's got move and attack on every click. However, compared to the other figure in his point range, he's defensively puny. That Invincible is useless against someone with Poison, which is sad, and he tops out at a 17, which is becoming the new 16. If his defense numbers were higher, he'd be worth it all across the board. As it stands, Superboy Prime is only good when faced against two or fewer powerful opponents, and preferably with less move and attack than he has.
A great fig to compare Prime with is Super-Skrull illuminati--both have defensive powers that reduce damage to 1; both are vunerable to outwit- however Prime has Indomitable so he can push, plus 2 clicks of regen late dia (Big Bonus)- Super-Skrull has skrull team ability, and can perplex his defence to 20(Thats KC Lantern). They Are actualy very similar pieces; but at the end of the day (for me) I use prime to put a hurt down and Skrull (Even with feats to equil the point difference) cant hold up one on one.
People are screaming how he needs fort but so does every other clix that doesn't have an anti outwit ability. Lets get real you play the game knowing that you might get out witted and you adjust your game play to it. Prime might not be his KC or E-2 bro but he can hang. Some of you may not agree but this is an imo type thing. As for comic accuracy I'm not sure if he is because I haven't read up on him but he is a beast which is what superman is suppose to be so I put a 5.
It took me awhile to get Prime back, but I have to say, it was worth the wait. I've always considered him to be completely comic accurate. His point cost and relatively low attack and defense are a bit of a problem. Often there are other cheaper figures that can be given great support options, but for sheer brute force I'd probably stick to Prime. Not as playable as the other Supermen figures but still a blast to run in a game.
His powers are an incompatible mess and his defense is pathetic for a figure of his cost. He's very dangerous, as any indomitable hypersonic speed piece with super strength and big damage is going to be, but he just isn't very impressive down the dial. His attack value is his greatest strength, with this three 12's in the middle during his most dangerous clicks almost ensuring he's going to land a big hit that will wipe just about any piece off the board. However after his 5th click, he just fails to be very impressive, and the regeneration at the end of his dial both makes him extremely vulnerable and like the rest of his dial, doesn't synergize well. Unless he rolls extremely well, he can't regenerate to any of his most dangerous clicks. A scary piece for sure, but his powers are so poorly positioned on the dial and inflate his cost by I imagine quite a bit, that he could be a whole lot more.
Traded him for a Legacy Ares. He was a fun figure, but you NEED fortitude on him.. otherwise don't bother. His defensive numbers aren't nearly high enough in a world of outwit and 2~3 damage figures. Still fun. :)
