3) Why is she raising ire with this book when there are magazines like Cosmo & Glamour that have content that is more overt than this 1 issue of Amazing Spider-Man that I'll bet she's never talked to the library about carrying?
In fairness, I dont' know many elementary school libaries that carry Cosmo and Glamour. (If this had been a standard public library than, yeah, I could roll my eyes a little more at the fuss but I admit an elementary school library should have slightly different filtering than a public library - not sure she isn't making too big of a deal anyway but I'm also a bit undecided if the comic fits the location.)
"Nobody important? That's amazing. You know, in 900 years of traveling time and space I've never met someone who wasn't important."

The problem is one of perception. That all comic book super heroes= Kid Friendly. How many people saw parents bring young kids to Watchmen? I doubt anyone in the library did more than glance at the book and go "Spidey comic, that's fine."
Elementary school covers an age range of kids about 5-12. (Younger if 4K is taught as well) Some things fine for the upper end are not fine for the lower end.
In my opinion a 6 year old seeing an overtly sexualized drawing of MJ in a bikini or nightgown is not that big of a deal. But I don't have kids either. I am staunchly anti censorship, but I can see the reason for debate here.
But some of the Mothers comments do make her look a bit foolish...
...and don't forget, elementary school goes up to 6th grade. If the kid started school a year late, that can easily be 13 years old, and more than able to handle a little MJ bottom booty sliping out from under the nightgown.
If she was truly involved in her child's learning process she wouldn't hide things from him. She would actively discuss the things found in the comic book. The kid might be six, but that doesn't make him a fool. He obviously knew what was going on in the book, and she [the mother] should understand that.
As for having no literary value, that comic book will easily have more words than the "reading" book. It will also cover more issues with grammar and polysyllabic words. To me, she is one of the masses who think comic books equal Adam West Batman or Archie.
I could go on for a long time, but I think I'll get off this soapbox now.
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to gudda again.
Dang it, I was going to rep you for the use of that name, too. Sorry.
I just love how that name/term "Joephisto" has been spreading since I first used it.
Since this was your thread i felt compelled to use it ( besides i use it all the time ) I was explaining who Jophisto was to my 66 year old mother the other day it was great.
Well sure it's technically possible....I mean I've been kinda monogamous (diogamous?) for 12 years now so.........
Ok so maybe I've got some 13+ year old kids I don't know about.
Thanks for sending me to bed with that thought tonight..... :cross-eye

At your next school reunion, one of your conquests will introduce you to your kid. Or, several of your conquests will introduce you to your kids. And/or even worse, one of them turns out to be JKLantern.
