Sorry I've taken so long getting back to this. I'm pretty much over my surgery (though I'm still not allowed to lift anything more than a few pounds), and I'm planning on playing through Jack's scenario tonight.
We'll see how close he comes to getting 16 T-Rexes.
Well, my hospital stay certainly delayed this game, but now we're back on track at last. Of course, considering how things went in the "wandering dinosaur" scenario, it may have been better NOT to get back on track.
JackAssterson’s time machine materializes along the south side of the hunting area. A T-Rex comes wandering close by. Jack steps from the machine, takes careful aim and brings the T-Rex down with a single shot.
To the west, another T-Rex wanders off the hunting area, but there’s a hadrosaur and a Triceratops still relatively nearby. First Jack moves to the T-Rex trophy and attaches a Hand Retrieval Device to it.
But then the worst possible thing happens!!! The area is struck by an earthquake. And—as an incredibly bad set of die rolls would have it—a crevice begins to split open next to Jack’s time machine. The time machine falls into the bottomless crevice. The earth continues to split. Jack can only watch in helpless horror as the crevice reaches him. He and the dead T-Rex are swallowed up by the earth, lost forever.
Well, that was a short game! I actually spent more time setting up the board than I did playing the actual game, but sometimes the gods of the dice rolls frown upon us. Only a roll of 6 on a d6 would have caused the earthquake, then there was only a 1 in 6 chance of its starting point being next to the time machine. Then only a 1 in 3 chance of the quake heading towards the time machine, with the further bad luck of Jack being in a hex in the exact line with the quake/time machine. Also, a roll of 3 or higher was needed for the quake to reach Jack before changing direction. Bad luck with 4 successive die rolls.
Jack’s misadventure costs the hunters 25 points. The total is now 45 points, with only two scenarios left to reach 150.
Next up, Wade Wilson in the "stampeding Dinosaurs" scenario.
