Love em or Hate em, they keep the game alive financially, and that's the only way this game can live. My other hope is that WK will be at Gencon next year, otherwise, they're gone. This is what happens when you put game designers in charge of a business.
Kind of a stretch isn't it? Predicting the death of the company because Web of Spider-Man may not have a few chase figures? The game thrived for years without chase figures. Chill.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
61-64 were most definitely designed as chases. It just got changed mid-stream. The cards for figures 61-64 all have bronze rarity tabs on the back instead of gold like the rest of the Super Rares. The tabs on the base are all the same gold color, so I am calling them Super Rares. Especially since I saw as more Bombastic Bagman as I did Doc Ock. Deadpool was also a very common Super Rare. I only saw a couple Spider-Hulks, and only heard of 2 Doppleganger being opened in 250 boosters. I only actually saw 1 Cosmic Spider-Man which was opened across the table and down 1 seat from me. There were probably more but because he's 319 points, he couldn't be played in the event, so he was put away.
I don't know it, it's just the rationale that I always heard for chases.
I do know that some of my friends and I would buy extra boosters hoping to pull a chase. Only happened for me once, with a Lampost Batman.
Now you'll be buying extra boosters for that SR you're still missing though. I don't really see this as a big deal for sales. WK has stats on this stuff and they clearly did their research. They know how well Mutation and Monsters sold as that was a set with no chases. So they must know what they are doing.
I sure as hell hope WizKids can move the product without chases. There's a huge debate in this regard, but i've already read different people saying their clix spending just went down to not collect the chases.

That's bullcrap. They don't need chases to keep the game alive.
They just need to make decent expasions, and people will buy.
There's plenty of games that sell fine without depending on chase schemes.
Mediocre sets like B&TB may require chases to sell. But WoS looks great by comparison.
They were intended as Chases from every story I was told through development, and had the bronze tabs printed on them.
Either Wizkids decided 'no more chases' (or maybe Scarlet Witch did) or there was a printing error and they made as many of the Chases as they did the SRs in those packs.
Just as well, as Bagman and Doppelganger are both good pieces that I'd like to have.

Black Bolt of the Vegas Illuminati
no chase no case... at least for me. pointless when you can pick up the whole set SRs included for less than $150 on ebay.
i usually pre-order two cases and hope for the best. then i buy a booster or two every time im in the store. not this time. haha, finally i can resist the temptation to buy overpriced plastic from a box when its a fraction of the price on ebay. thanks marketing person at wizkids for making this easy. and im sure the local comic shop owners will thank you also when they have boosters collecting dust on the shelves.

You are correct - We changed our minds during development and pushed the "chase figures" into the SR slots. Each of the 16 SRs should be equally distributed throughout the print run.
As you pointed out - we couldn't catch (or we missed) the cards and they are still marked with tell-tale bronze chase markings but I assure you the figures are injected and inserted as SRs.
There is one small variant that was imposed on us by the licensor. Last year's world champ, Ben, designed the piece Nightcrawler. The plaque on the back of the brick wall was submitted as "2008 HeroClix World Champion Benjamin Cheung" - Marvel asked us to remove and replace with Xavier Institute of Higher Learning (or something close). We lobbied the Marvel licensing department hard and they graciously allowed us to use our original plaque copy on 1 out of 10 of the Nightcrawler figures. Everything else is the same, just the plaque.
It's not what we originally envisioned, but it certainly allowed us to pay a fitting tribute to Ben, the '08 HC World Champ.
So the secret is out - there is no Chase in WoS. I expect the next question is "what does this mean for future sets?" The answer is - it depends. There is no "rule" we use for collation. We'll make the decisions on a set by set basis. Will some of you hate our choices? Of course. Will some of you love our choices? Of course. I am sure it will just depend.

Personally, I like the idea of 16/16/16/16 as opposed to chases. Kudos. Wish I could have been there at GenCon, but beat Wade at Tsuro for me would you?

That's very cool that there is a 1 in 10 variant to the Nightcrawlers!!! Ben should be given his due on that figure.
