It seems to me that this fits under the "common sense" rule. Since all players must have the same size starting area, in a two player game no figures may be placed beyond the starting area. You would also not be able to use objects since they cannot be placed in a starting area.
Much like the mythical phone support call for the computer, I might rule that the person who tries this loses because he or she isn't smart enough to play this game.

then you would have to rule that the opponent against the person who tries this also loses because they can't place their entire force. (its called a game of strategy, and the rule book doesn't cover this, the RA who has been playing this game longer than i have didn't even know that a 2' x 3' map was 24x16 squares ,not 24 by 36, albeit: blamed on lack of caffiene)
It continues to AMAZE me how long this thread lasts. Of all the things out there to concern yourselves (you => a generic you, not anthony_barnstable in particular), how this thread goes on and on just stuns me.
I've said this before, but is this a silly issue? Yes. But I'm also amazed that an official ruling hasn't been given. This is the place WizKids said to come for official rulings. And while this is a silly issue, it's no less deserving of an answer than any other issue. (And I would guess that some people actually have thought of going to GenCon with a 300 point Lian Harper team just to be funny and to have fun, so an official ruling is in order.)
As I see it, the only questions remaining are:
1) What happens if my force cannot fit in the starting area even if the starting area is my entire side of the map?
2) What happens if I don't include objects in my build, but I make the starting areas so big that my opponent, who did include objects in their build, cannot place their objects?
Again, this is silly, so any official answer is fine. If the player who caused this loses, then that is the rule. If something else happens, then that is the rule. All this thread seeks is the rule.
Last time this came up, it was the same kind of background - "no one cares what the rule is, it's a silly question, they just want a rule." So I went to WK and the answer we all got was "you lose."
And as much fun as everyone was having, sudenly it became a crab-fest of "that's carp - how can WK say such a thing."
So let's see how this goes.
If you bring a team to an event that I'm in charge of and half the map is not large enough for your army, your opponent gets all of the points of the characters that do not fit. If you think that's not fair, then you should plan your team accordingly. If you think this needs to be "documented," I disagree as I will not let my opinion force venues to make decisions that they feel is not right for them.
There's a ruling. Let's see this thread peter out now (this is post 54 - I bet this thread goes until at least 81 before Friday).

Part of the reason this was asked again is people thought you were joking when you said that you lose. And apparently "you lose" is no longer the answer. (Personally I was fine with you lose.) Thank you for the updated answer.
The only other question: What happens if I don't include objects in my build, but I make the starting areas so big that my opponent, who did include objects in their build, cannot place their objects?

Are you refering to official WizKids events that you would be running or are you refering to events you run in general?

and just a reminder the only reason this thread is so thick (50+ posts) is because the RA and his deputies couldn't relay an official ruling when the question was first asked.
Maybe a more convienient addition to the Rule book or Players Guide,
"Official Rulings given on HCRealms.com may take awhile"

You are fortunate to get any ruling. It seems to me that Norm used to have a policy of not ruling on hypothetical situations and this is about as hypothetical as it gets.
The bottom line is this, build teams tat actually allow figures to move. IN case some people didn't know, Drew's Mega-Mega Crossover Event post was an April Fool's Day joke. Time to move on. Hopefully they will close this thread as the question has been answered and now all that will happen is people will use it to whine some more.

Funny, I think the reason the thread is so long is that people keep asking for an official ruling when an official ruling isn't really needed as this situation is very unlikely to arise.

not hypothetical at all I plan on bringing a similar team to Worlds next year
and funny you bring up the Mega Mega cuz thats exactly what i thought of when nbperp was talking about 300+ squares per half lol
and you BOLD statement is false I believe Questions still has a question

A lot of the rules forum is hypothetical. Many of the questions I've answered, I've never seen come up in a game. But that doesn't make the question any less valid.

Couldn't we say WizKids started this? They should at least answer the question.

Actually I do have one question left hanging: What happens if I don't include objects in my build, but I make the starting areas so big that my opponent, who did include objects in their build, cannot place their objects?

I hope the rules forum doesn't become a place where the deputies start saying...I'm sorry, I don't think your question is important enough. The issue was obviously something the OP was interested in knowing. Otherwise the OP wouldn't have posted in the first place.
