Why, do you "know better?" Because it's your job to? Because of your unique access? Pfft. It's that kind of thinking that keeps Rush out of the Hall, which we all know they deserve to be. And how did that work out for you during your Trios when you tried to pick who would be the winner based on your "knowledge?"
Wow, this whole thin g must really have stung you. I have never said Rush doesn't belong in the HoF, but you continue to go there with your strawman argument. I may not know better than a lot of people here, but I most certainly know better than you when it comes to this.

No dude, you said they were horrible musicians referring to who he has played with, and that's a direct quote from you. Now you're saying you didn't say it. Give me another one of your pfft's for the playground.

I just liked Chicago's version of this song better and didn't see the need to run down Winwood to say it.
If you called the people who played with Winwood "horrible musicians", then yes, that tells me you know nothing about him as I've shown the names of all those horrible musicians as you called them. And if you look again, I at first never bad-mouthed CTA or Chicago as much as I was singing the praises of one of the greatest songwriter and musician in the rock era. You were the one who got all bent out of shape and claimed I was bad-mouthing a band you liked and how dare I do that. You have some issues from elsewhere with me and I'd appreciate it if you leave those at the door.
And for me predicting who would win the rock trios, have you got that all wrong. That was no prediction, I merely ranked them in a sort of pre-season type of ranking. Call it my favorites or what you want, but it wasn't a prediction. Again, give it a rest and drop it.
You know, I really hate closing threads. We'll see if it goes any further.
I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
....No dude, you said they were horrible musicians referring to who he has played with, and that's a direct quote from you. Now you're saying you didn't say it. Give me another one of your pfft's for the playground......
I know what a bad idea it is to get in the middle of a passionate discussion, but my life is full of bad choices with good intentions and disastorous results. For my next choice....
I took theanalogkid's comment to be a sarcastic comment about Chicago's members, not people Steve Winwood had played with. It seemed he was using that sarcasm regarding the musicians in Chicago as a jumping off point to talk about Terry Kath, who it appears he admired a lot. Frankly, ANYONE who knows anything about music knows that Steve Winwood and most of the people he chose to play with are modern musical icons. If I seriously thought theanalogkid considered those people horrible musicians (Clapton, Jim Capaldi, Dave Mason, Ginger Baker, many others) I would have to suggest that he start his own Lawrence Welk Champagne Forum, featuring Gail and Dale (whoever). But I HOPE that was just a miscommunication. For our sake and his.
or in this case 10-1 or 91% of the people who voted. CTA and later Chicago were a mediocre band at best that just happened to have a period where they had a lot of hits. Their influences are minimal right now and that includes their guitar work and their horn section.
Why do I care what some other musician(s) says?
I like a band because I like a band.
You give me a stack of Spencer-Davis group albums and a stack of Chicago, and I can only listen to one, then I am picking Chicago.
But this wasn't about the bands. It was about a single song.
Spencer-Davis got my support on that single song.
25 or 6 to Four is a ton better than I'm a Man.

They have sold over 38 million units in the U.S., with 22 gold, 18 platinum, and 8 multi-platinum albums.[4][5] Over the course of their career they have charted five No. 1 albums, and have had 21 top ten hits.
And that is no better.
I no more like something because it sells better than I do if some musician likes it.
I vote for the song that I liked better.
I thought that's what I was supposed to do.
Not vote for the artist that I think is better, not vote for someone because some other band and/or musician said something good about the band or musician, and not vote for which artist outsold the other, because then we wouldn't need a vote at all.
And critics are the worst. They try to tell us what is cool, but they don't have a clue, they are just trying to seem important. In a year they will mock you for listening to someone that they used to say was the best thing ever.
And for my finale....

I didn't see that at all...

You (VelvetGuru9) say that you can't think of a scenario where Chicago would beat any Steve Winwood project, and he (TheAnalogKid) agrees sarcastically.
That Chicago can't beat any Winwood project because they (Chicago) are such horrible musicians, which he clearly doesn't agree with.
Hey, if an argument is going to be public then I can put in my .02, too.

First off, I don't have a problem with you, personally at all, anywhere. I only said something here because of what you said.
As to that, let's look at it again:
You:
Was there ever any doubt? I can't think of any scenario that would have CTA or Chicago besting any project that has Steve Winwood in it.
Me:
Yes, because they they all such horrible musicians. Did you miss the way horrible is italized? Maybe I should have used the rolleyes or teal, but I was NOT saying Winwood and Co. was horrible, only that you were were implying that Chicago was, when I thought they weren't. Read it aloud to yourself in that context, and you'll see what I mean.
Sorry for the confusion, and the only reason I'm responding after I said I wouldn't. To clear that up. In no way was I saying that Steve Winwood or his associates are bad musicians. Only that Chicago aren't bad either.

And it seems I should have just read ahead. Surfer, I only brought up the album sales to show that while the band may not be as influeniel as Winwood, they are still loved by many. Even though my music is subjective argument was rejected, you also confirmed it. We like what we like. VG uses his unique experience to gauge his vote, and the rest of us use ours. And nothing is going to change that.
We like what we like, for whatever reason.

And with that, I hope we can drop the anomosity and just get on with enjoying music (or not enjoying --- with some people --- in some cases.)

Ah, I think it was just an anomoly and an interesting/unexpected diversion. Personally, I've come to respect and enjoy everyone's opinions who contributes here, even Surfer13.
Lest I "Muff" it by taking any longer, put me down for The Original -- The Spencer Davis Group with Stevie Winwood (at least, I think he was still "Stevie" at that point), please!
Tim Burton was right: "A square jaw does not a Batman make." Steve Buscemi as the next Batman! Luke Perry as Joker! Let's make it happen!
