I think he is more of an inventor that takes flasks that he prepares before him that give him random powers, I believe I remember a charachter in Zyxba's games. This would explain why the ghost effect ran out.

Actually as I recall he had the ability to grow giant as well with a different type of flask and I remember fighting him however I do not remember his alignment.
