Why does that cartoon get so much hate? I loved it as a kid, and watched a few episodes the other day after stumbling across it on netflix. I don't think it's that bad.
You watched that clip and you need to ask this question?
So, at the end of the last thread I got called some names, one of them was "defensive".
This may seem defensive, but I still feel the need to clarify a few things.
I'm not a "Chubby Chaser", I'm just old. I grew up on women like (Freudian pun based on wish fullfillment totally intended) Raquel Welch and Linda Carter; I like "weeemen"! I like women; not waifs. I like curves; not bones.
I don't consider myself a "misogynist". And I'm not sure if Char, a guy objectifying women in just about every avater he's had, is making some kind of joke or something. I also find that the word itself has been co-opted in so many ways, that it seems to have no meaning aside from an accusatorial trump card. I've been working in childcare and education in some form or another since 1982. I've spent most of my life in female dominated work places and dealing with women as my "customers". In that time I've earned the respect of many female parents, children, and some coworkers. But, in general, I've found most of the parents and co-workers I've encountered to be myopic, reactionary, and ignorant. I've also been the target of sexual harrassment of just about every kind. Yeah, that's probably led to some hard feelings on my part. But do I, as the term misogynist implies, hate women? No. I do see, however, that many women in these professions hate men. Where is the accusatorial trump card word for them?
Outside my profession I've met a large number of other people. What I do often comes up in conversation. The unbalanced work environment that I tread also comes up. The reaction of casually encountered strangers is "Oh my God! I could never deal with that many women! How do you put up with all the cattiness, gossip, backstabbing, and other BS?"
The people who ask these questions of me are women. Are they mysoginists?
I've spent most of my life in female dominatrix training facilities and dealing with women as my "customers". In that time I've earned thirty-five dollars (Canadian).

blah blah blah
The people who ask these questions of me are women. Are they mysoginists?
I don't think you're being defensive. Thanks for explaining. I now feel much better about you.
I read a joke on the internet the other day...
When men get together, they communicate by trading insults that they don't mean. When women get together, they communicate by trading compliments that they don't mean.
I don't know how this applies to your situation, but I've very sure that it fits.
Also, this post prevents any possible HavenPage, but does allow for a HavenSinWave.
The people who ask these questions of me are women. Are they mysoginists?
No because they lack a penis. But since we have one, we get called names. I have not had some of the troubles you mentioned being a teacher so far, but I can understand where you are coming from.
By the way, stop being so dang defensive.
@Wintermute, I don't think that was a joke.

Just picked up the Spider-Man CTD for $25, including shipping. Not bad....
That sounds like a really good deal. Where'd ya find that?

How long ago was this "as a kid" time period?
When the show first aired, in the 90s. I was born in 86.
Seriously, though, I'm about halfway through the first season on netflix right now, and I'm really enjoying it. There's a few head-scratching choices (like Peter being built like a linebacker or Norman Osborn seemingly answering to Kingpin) but for the most part, it's great. The characterization is pretty accurate for the most part, it has the tone that I expect from a Spider-Man cartoon, and there is some hilarious dialogue.
My favorite so far, from Rhino--"Let's make this quick, I want to go home and polish my horn."
And now I'm going to finish watching the episode that clip is from while I eat my dinner.

I watched a bit then my friends wanted me to watch Avatar the Last Airbender. Watched that then been slowly watching Jackie Chan Adventures, used to watch it when it was on Saturdays. Keep saying I am going to try out watching Dr Who but I keep getting distracted by other things, mostly cartoons lately. Think I just find them more lighthearted that they don't get to me emotionally or whatever you want to call it. A lot of shows lately have some sort of relationship element that makes me sad. Either that or it makes me miss her more then I already do.

I was a GI Joe and Scooby Doo cartoon watcher. I sometimes watched Transformers.
Did not like He-Man or the Smurfs, although the new movie that we talked about last week was much better than the '80s cartoon.
