For the initial Rule Book quote, did you mean to add the word light?
If you did mean to add light (perhaps to highlight the word's transformation to ultra light in the combined text), everyone else please note that it is a slightly modified quote.
(I mention this in case of the possibility that there are people who would have questions based on just the Rule Book quote.)
No, I didn't mean to add it. I first did only an edited version and then decided to first show just the regular text and Ctrl-Z:ed until I though I had the original text left. I corrected my previous post. Thanks for noticing.
If I pick up an ultra light object and lose super strength, do I still drop my object (because the rules do say to drop any object you are holding)?
Because a character can hold a ultra light object even if it doesn't have Super Strength (as per the extra rules for ULOs), I don't think you'd drop it even if your SS was lost.

I would agree with this because the ULO's rules specify that a character can pick up and hold it even if the character can't use Super Strength.

But the rules clearly state to drop the object. It does not state "even if you can still hold the object without super strength". Why would you keep the object? Where in the rules does it state that?

Once again page 16 of the 2014 rulebook:
HOLDING AN OBJECT
- -
If, however, a character
holding an object is defeated or loses the ability to
use Super Strength, the character automatically
drops the object, which stays in the square the
character occupied when it was defeated or the
power was lost.
ULTRA LIGHT OBJECTS
An Ultra Light object is a light object with a white
ring instead of a yellow one. Ultra Light objects
follow all the rules of light objects with the following
changes:
• Any character can pick up or hold this object,
even if they can’t use Super Strength.
Because Super Strength has no bearing on holding an ultra light object, the part about SS under "HOLDING AN OBJECT" then turns into this:
If, however, a character
holding an object is defeated or loses the ability to
use Super Strength, the character automatically
drops the object, which stays in the square the
character occupied when it was defeated or the
power was lost.
Which of course makes no sense whatsoever, so let's make it into something that does make sense and still keeps the same functionality:

I disagree. There is nothing in the rules to indicate that the rules for ULs do anything to strike out the part you are striking out. As worded, that rule sets up a simple yes/no question. Did you lose the ability to use Super Strength? If the answer is yes, then you drop the object.
The intention very well may be that the object continues to be held, but the rules lead to the opposite conclusion.

The rules for ULOs say that the character can hold the object even if it can't use Super Strength. The dropping of an object due to losing Super Strength is linked to holding an object. For ULOs the question you posed becomes "Did you lose the ability to use -?" because SS has nothing to do with this interaction.

No...SS does have to do with it because nothing in the UL does anything to make the rules drop that reference to SS there.

The rules for dropping an object is the only part under "HOLDING AN OBJECT" that references Super Strength in any way. The rules for ULO's say:
Any character can pick up or hold this object,
even if they can’t use Super Strength.
There would be no need for the word "hold" there, if losing SS meant that the ULO would be dropped. Dropping an object due to losing SS is part of the rules for holding an object, which the rules for ULOs change.

You are approaching this backwards.
You are saying that because you can hold this without SS, then that rule doesn't apply. That's not what the rule is checking.
The rules is checking one simple thing. Did you lose Super Strength? In the situation described, you did. It doesn't matter that the rules also say that you can hold the object. The event of losing SS occurred, so that triggers the rules to say that the object gets dropped.
Look at it this way. Imagine that the rulebook said this:
If, however, a character holding an object is defeated or loses the ability to use Super Strength, the character is dealt 1 click of unavoidable damage and automatically drops the object, which stays in the square the character occupied when it was defeated or the power was lost.
My character with Super Strength is holding an ultra-light object.
He takes damage and loses Super Strength.
That loss of Super Strength triggers some stuff...a click of damage and a drop of the object.
I'm going to take that damage because I lost Super Strength.
I'm also going to drop that object because I lost Super Strength. The fact that I actually would otherwise still have the ability to hold that object is irrelevant. I drop the object because the rules tell me that I drop my object when I lose Super Strength.
Again, I'm not saying that is definitely intended. My guess would actually be that it is not intended, but the rules definitely only lead to the conclusion that the object is dropped.
