As others have said, you are truly evil for asking this. I started with 1 case and a starter set of Infinity Challenge, so you can kind of do the math from there.
According to my database, I own 4396 individual figures. Not counting duplicates, I have 3412 figures. Not counting feats, resources and other associated bric-a-brac. More on the way!
As for how much spent, I have no idea and do not want to know.
One thing that's making me smile reading these is whether people know how many clix they have or not, there's an element of that being countable because the clix are still there but the money is gone so why even try to account for that
I know that's pretty much my feelings on the matter. I don't care about trying to calculate what my collection is WORTH either. Once you calculate it, it would generally change in a few months anyway (mostly down per figure) and more than that, I'm not planning on getting rid of them.
My wife and I have been collecting for just a short couple years. We refuse to count or add up the dollar spent. It's not what our financial planner would say as a good investment of our cash flow.
Oh, I've cleared 5 grand for sure. I've cut back a lot, but if I figure to spend about 500 dollars a year over 10 years, then I'm probably in the right ballpark.
My collection is probably down to about 2000 figures, not counting multiples of generics. I've really started to keep my collection limited (which given the previous number, probably sounds silly). I have these "tool storage" containers now. I bought 81 and have promised myself that I'll never buy aother one and my collection has to fit in there (save for colossal figures, generics, and pieces like HoT Valkyrie or Fenris Wolf who are too big).
@clameire I actually enjoy the power creep myself. I like heroclix getting more powerful and never enjoyed small games.
Power creep is not (in my definition/opinion) getting more powerfull characters for more points (like having a 200 pts batman) it's getting more powerfull characters for less points (like comparing what 80 pts brings you with modern figure versus 80 pts with older ones)
In my definition of power creep, it is BAD. Very bad for ANY game. And i can't even pinpoint why someone would enjoy it ever.
But liking having more powerfull figures (properly costed in point) seems perfectly fine to me.
I have everything made for Heroclix from the beginning until the end of 2013. I am only missing about 30 figures from this year's releases.
As for the money? Ugh... I don't know where to begin. A couple of cases for most of the releases from the past 8 years or so. (A case would usually complete you before that). Purchased most of the Con Exclusive and Chase figures. Sold extras to make up the cost (I got lucky way back in the day and bought a pack of MK and pulled the Pestilence Horseman figure. Sold it for $2k to a local store and that took care of my HeroClix habit for the next year or so).
In the last few years I have sold over 6-700 clixs, one sale was over 250, anyhow also gave away well over 500 or so, and still have way too many. Many years ago, after I first started I sold out my whole collection for$2,500...don't know how many I had, quite a few.
When I started playing again bought out a bunch of collections, spent way to much for KC figs, DK Phoenix and many others that I wanted, also buying bricks and cases of current sets that were coming out.
Guess you can tell I'm bored tonite...all this rambling on, the simple answer is... probably around 6 to 700 in my possession now and WAY, WAY, WAY to much $$$
I've bought about 17-20 bricks. And spent about 300-400$ on singles.
But I've sold enough to make my money back and I still have a significant amount
Remaining, got all the zombies, P5, and a tone of team bases and Con ex too
Oh man... I don't even know. Thousands I'm sure. I just counted about 600 Modern Age cards. I haven't spent much since about Crisis. Since then I've bought no Bricks or Cases, and only a few CUR sets. I don't think I've purchased any really expensive figures, and only really splurge once a year, a couple hundred dollars. Other than that it's mostly just tournament entry fees. Of course when you have ten kids like me you have to keep your hobby spending (And space) to a minimum.
aqhoffman- greatest post possibly ever
jtallday- Jon I wouldn't challenge you if I wasn't sure you are wrong cuz I don't have that kind of energy.
