So, is it just a Destructo-Mags relationship that I don't get believed in any of his games? Even when you don't know it's me, I still get dumped on for telling unlikely truths!
"He's a Power Ranger."
"No, I'm not."
"But he goes to college."
"So do lots of people."
"He's totally the Black Ranger."
"Dude, that's racist."
"... KILL HIM ANYWAY!"
STILL one of my favorite lynch write-ups of all time
Long ago, in the recent past, Loki abandoned Leah. Recently, in ancient history, they reconnected. Leah knows Loki better than anyone, knows his character better than she knows her own. She knows when he needs to be taught a lesson.
“You're Loki's new friends, I presume. I'm sorry. That doesn't turn out well for anyone.” - For reasons that are your own (or maybe they are Loki's) you have gathered those scorned by the Young Avengers. You are the leader of this group and are responsible for their actions.
“The truth is painful, but it is a necessary pain” - You are the team's all access information finder. You can use any kind of info power you wish. Track, Reverse Track, Power cop, name cop, etc.
“Some people harbour the most terrible grudges” - Your secondary power is unique among your group. You may use the kill power of any of your Mafia team mates if you make the kill. Perks of being the don.
Meree (The Scorned)
A member of the 18th Kree Diplomatic Gestalt, you were a diplomat, a peace maker. Until you died. You don't care so much about that anymore. Now, you are more about revenge. On Noh-Varr and all his team mates.
“Hey, I died. I wasn't dumped.” - You want retribution for not being avenged. Noh swore to avenge you! You are the team's misdirector. If you target Noh-Varr, you are also bulletproof.
“Annie tells me I end up killed by humans!” - Kind of bitter about being killed, you can only return the favour. As your secondary power, you are the janitor. You will hide the identities of all your victims.
Oubliette (The Scorned)
Daughter of Doctor Midas, your personal daddy issues may be the root cause of your violent tendencies and extreme behaviour. The kind of thing that would scare away most men is exactly what drew Noh-Varr to you. Well, for a time at least. But it didn't last. A fact you are still a little bitter about.
“Fake nails for a fake girl. But real poison” - At night, you may poison someone. This will hinder their action (role block or misdirect) and also silence them (either completely or partially).
“One way or another, he's prey. Delicious prey” - Your secondary power is a stealth kill. When making the kill for the mafia, you avoid all detection like trackers, reverse trackers, etc.
Annie (The Scorned)
A teenager who briefly dated Noh-Varr in the past, in some future year, you will aquire some of Kang's technology. What do you do with that kind of power? Seek revenge on Noh-Varr of course.
“Ten years from today, I inherited some Kang-Tech, and started dancing across timelines” - you are the team's doctor, dancing across time lines to save them from death.
“I taught him everything about Earth” - If you make the kill, you will learn exactly what powers your target had. This can be used to build role claims for the mafia, if you wish.
Ultimate Nullifier (The Scorned)
A founding member of the newest incarnation of theTeen Brigade, you are foul mouthed, hot tempered and unhealthily obsessed with America Chavez. Let it go, dude, she's just not into you.
“Time to kiss goodbye to your powers” - You nullify. It's what you do. You are the mafia role blocker.
“No one leaves Ultimate Nullifier in the Negative Relationship Zone” - If you make the mafia kill, you will both kill and role block your target.
You are Mother, the big bad of this story arc. An interdimensional parasite, you were attracted to the magic young Billy was casting and came to this Earth to feed. Powerful and vicious, you have taken the guise of Teddy's mother, but can easily take on any form you wish. With the power to warp reality and perception, only children can see you, adults having no idea the threat they are witnessing. You are power, you are terror, you are Mother.
Okay, before we break down your powers, let's start with mechanics. You are a Serial Killer and it's no secret I like my SKs to be powerful. The anonymous format has given me the ability to do roles that cannot be done other places. Like letting you control 2 players. You are not one, but two people in this game. One is Mother, and one is her minions, but it doesn't really matter which is which. Whichever dies first will have been the minions leaving Mother alive. One of you must always make the kill (this will appear as the minions), the other (Mother herself) will be free to use the other power.
I recommend you post often as both players. There is a lot you can do. Here are some suggestions:
Make an argument and have the second you agree, making it seem more likely.
Pick a fight with yourself to throw off suspicion or eat up a day phase.
Use the two roles to double your voting power,
Or, alternatively, use one of them as a scape goat, making the second role have a stronger claim.
Those are some ideas to start you off. Lots of possibilities to consider. Just be careful to remember who you are posting as. Would have to see you lose due to a slip up.
“Everybody agreed it's best you come with me so I can feed on your souls until you're nice and dead inside” - As a Serial Killer, you must make a kill every night. Your kill is unblockable and can't be misdirected. It can only be stopped by a doctor.
“Mother Knows Best” - For you back up power, you can do... well... anything. You have access to every power in mafia. Except killing, you may not have two kills a night. I just did that in my last TV game and I don't like to repeat myself. Pick a power, and use it. Even the narrator must fear Mother and bend to her wishes.
Your powers will change slightly when you lose your first life.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
After first life was burned, became immune to pretty much all targeting and had a very high lynch resistance.
I loved this concept. One player, 2 roles. Plus, Mother had to be scary as. St-Dumas did alright, but I think posting as two people was a bit much for him. Some others may have been able to take better advantage of it.
I, personally, would have gotten myself lynched. To build cred. And been very vocally against myself. Because I wouldn't have cared which one died. But hey, to each their own.
The biggest mystery of this story arc, you are the being that came to be known as the Patri-not. Someone who seemed to be on all sides and yet helpful to none. A being of obvious power that wore Patriot's old costume, you aligned with both Mother and Leah, yet were not really trusted by either. Mother even suspected that you were a trap. Who are you? I suppose only you know for sure.
Your alignment is neutral. You may win this game with any side, simply by surviving.
“No one Escapes” - Just as you kidnapped Speed in the comics, only to return him later, you are a jailkeeper/silencer. You take someone out of play for a phase.
“Denial” - You have quite a high kill resistance. If one side tries to kill you though, you will no longer be able to win with that side. However, if they submit a kill action against you, I will question them if they are certain they wish to do that. So that may make them change their mind.
Because you are a neutral that is almost bulletproof, I have to include a drawback or you would be too powerful. You will cop as mafia.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
Not nearly as invulnerable as he thought he was. But I wanted whoever got this role to be cocky about it. Only Mother tried to kill him, but Dumas changed his mind when I asked if he was sure. Had he said yes, Patri-Not would have died.
Iron Lad (Alignment: Temporal Anomaly)
Wait a second... Iron Lad wasn't in this story arc. He was gone by the time the Mother saga began. But that's the thing about Time Travellers. They can always appear whenever they want. You are Iron Lad, from the beginning of Young Avengers. Having missed your mark, you appeared in this time instead. You think the threat of Kang is still coming. You need to assemble a team. Even if you've already done it.
“Vision Protocols” - Last time I ran an anonymous game, I included a neutral with a cool alt win condition... who died Night 1. So, I am trying the role again, because I liked it. It doesn't 100% fit Iron Lad, but he's the best I could do. You need to assemble a team, but first you have to find them.
At night, you must try and match each player in this game with who you think they are on HCRealms. I will tell you how you did Mastermind style (ie: tell you how many you got right and how many you guessed the right player but with the wrong alias.) You win the game if you ever correctly identify all remaining players.
Every other player in this game has 2 powers. You do not. In case this comes up when role claiming. Your sole task is working through the Vision Protocols.
After the events of Children's Crusade, you gave up super heroing. The loss of two friends was too much to handle (even if they were both eventually brought back). You have up the life, but not the magic. You couldn't help yourself. You bent reality to your whim, and now are paying the price. You feel all of this is your fault and now, it is your job to stop it.
“My Mistake. My Responsibility” - When your powers involve manipulating reality, a lot of good can come of it, but so can a lot of bad. You are a misdirector. Each time you use this power, it has a small chance to backfire, causing chaos in it's wake. But the chance is quite small, so you should be okay.
“What can I do? Anything. Yeah, anything” - Once this game, and not until you have used your misdirect power successfully 4 times (so, Night 5 at the earliest), you can gain the power of the Demiurge. That night, you have complete control over night actions. You will tell me who every player in the game targets that night. Basically, you get one night of god mode. Use it well.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
So sad he never got to go Demiurge
Hulkling (Young Avenger)
While you agreed to give up being a super hero after the events of Children's Crusade, you were not able to give it up as easily as your boyfriend, opting to sneak out at night and protect the city in the guise of other heroes. Always loyal both to your team and to your boyfriend, you have recently started having doubts. You love Billy more than anything, but could his powers over reality be the cause? And what do you do when you can't trust even the things you know are true?
“Hell, I'm an Alien Shape-Changer. I can be anything for you.” - Your first power is your shape-changing. You can take on the guise of another player at night. This will confuse anyone trying to target either of you, causing actions aimed at either to be randomly assigned to one of you. You also get to use of their powers if it is reasonable that Teddy could do it. You can't for example, mimic Billy's magic. Therefore, you may get a slightly different power than they actually use. You will not find out what the power was, you will just use it.
“Hurt Feelings isn't a reason to hurt people” - No... but it may be a good reason to punch them (side note, I combed through the whole Gillen arc, could not find a single quote from Teddy where he talks about his super strength. That's the best I could do.) Any ways, you are also a role blocker and may block someone at night instead.
Hawkeye (Young Avenger)
Hawkeye, not the hawkguy. Kate Bishop was born to be a super hero. The only member of the Young Avengers with no true super powers (or formally super powered) she proves that it's attitude that makes a hero, not powers. Kate is a little more grown up now (on the cusp of her 21st birthday) but is still young at heart and loves super heroing more than anyone else on the team.
“Being a superhero is amazing. Everyone should try it” - You are really good at this super hero team, even becoming the leader of the Young Avengers despite having no powers and not nearly enough training. As the leader, I'm giving you the Reverse Tracker power. Keeping an eye out for your team.
“Not Old-Fashioned. Vintage. I've always loved vintage.” - While Noh-Varr may call the Kree-Bow old, it's just your style. Your secondary power is to tag people in the write ups with the bow. You are also a dragger.
Ms America (Young Avenger)
A mysterious powerhouse with a short temper, Ms America Chavez (often referred to as MAC) joined the team to keep an eye on Loki, who she trusts way less far than she could throw him (because she could probably throw him to the moon). MAC has a hard exterior (both physically and emotionally) but grows close to her new team team. Even if she doesn't always show it.
“Your ticket to the multiverse, Princess.” - MAC has the ability to travel to different universes by literally kicking a hole through reality. In this game, that allows you to both doctor and guide someone. Protecting them and taking them where they need to go.
“Quit getting in the way of my fists and listen!” - When all else fails, just punch your way out of the situation. You can punch someone into submission if you wish. Your secondary power is that of a jailkeeper.
Prodigy (Young Avenger)
After M-Day and losing his superpowers, former mutant Prodigy was left with infinite knowledge and no real life options. So he took a dead-end job at a super hero call centre. That was until a friend and co-worker was kidnapped and you joined his former team to search for him.
“You're guilty about something, aren't you?” - As the smartest man in the room and the only one to always see through Loki's lies, cop was the natural fit.
“Hey, not everyone on the team decides to indulge their terminal drama addiction when the world is ending” - You secondary power is the contacts you have to the other teenage super heroes. Right now, you have access to only 2 heroes you can call in. Calling a hero will open up future options, giving you new powers every night. All of these powers are 1-shots. Right now you can call:
Transonic – cop (because I wanted your natural ability to be one of the options)
Alex Power - power cop (because his name is power)
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
There is a brilliant page in one of the later issues that shows a phone web of who called who to come in and help with the final battle. Prodigy's powers were inspired by that. Over the course of the game, he called Transonic, Alex Power, Ahura Boltagon, Cloud 9, Oya, Butterball and Rage. He also had access to (but never used) Lightspeed, Pixie, Ultragirl, Velocidad, Rockslide and Primal. Using them would have triggered more. They each had a different one shot to be used.)
Speed (Young Avenger)
I realise that Speed was barely in this arc of Young Avengers. He was kidnapped in his first appearance and isn't rescued until the of the arc. But still, I needed more town members and so Speed had to be included as a full member of the team or I wouldn't have enough roles to manage a town.
“Snails never get it” - Speed isn't just a code name, it's your life. You do everything faster than the eye can see. For you, a second can pass and feel like a week. You are an encourager, allowing players to take 2 actions at night instead of one.
Explosions – You didn't use this ability at all in this arc (so you don't get a quote to reference it) but you do possess the ability to speed up molecules and make things explode. You are also the town vigilante.
Loki (Young Avenger)
Loki's greatest trick was assembling the Avengers, and he is at it again with the next generation. While not the man he once was, Loki is still as tricky as ever, setting everything in motion to get all the pieces on the board exactly where you want them. While the who experiment may or may not be a plan to steal Billy's magic, you may surprise yourself and end up actually enjoying the company you keep.
“Everyone thinks I'm a monster. I have to play with it. It's kind of my super power” - You will cop as neutral, despite being town. No one trusts you.
“I'm Happening. Famously so.” - Using your vast magical abilities, you can play a trick or two. You are the god of mischief after all. You are a misdirector.
“If Billy is going to rewrite the rules of magic, I wanted to control the dance steps” - You manipulated everything, and to do so, you need to know everything. Knowledge is power, afterall. You are a power cop.
Marvel Boy (Young Avenger)
In his short time of Earth, Noh-Varr has played many roles. The victim of mind control, Dark Avenger, Protector, music lover, just to name a few. You had no real plans to join another team, but when a night with Kate Bishop lead to helping her friends out of a tight spot, you ended up part of the ensemble.
“Come with me if you want to be awesome” - Well, one of your code names of Protector, so it's only fair you get to be a protective role. You are a doctor. Not only will you doctor your target, but you will also make them a little more awesome for the night.
“They're Kirby Engines. Imagination Engines. They're sparked by belief” - Alternatively, you can also use your imagination-powered ship to be a bus driver for the night.
Patriot (Young Avenger)
Wait a second... Eli wasn't in this arc. Well, no he wasn't. But I needed a couple extra roles to flesh out the town, so I had to include Patriot. We'll pretend that he was a part of the team here. You are Patriot, founding member of the Young Avengers and grandson of the original Captain America, Isaiah Bradley. Everyone else gets powers named after quotes of their characters in this arc. But you don't, because you were not in it (and my other YA books aren't on hand to look up quotes for).
Leadership...ish – While you and Kate often butted heards over who actually lead the team, you did your fair share of contributing to the direction the team went. Thus, you are a tracker.
Not Appearing – For your second power, I'm giving you something defensive. By not appearing in the book, you can forgo taking an action to disappear from the game at night, making you bulletproof.
Stature (Young Avenger)
Wait a second... Cassie wasn't in this arc. Well, no she wasn't. But I needed a couple extra roles to flesh out the town, so I had to include Stature. Originally, she was going to be my Night 0 death (seemed fitting) but a couple last minute sign ups meant I had to add an extra role in, so Cassie suddenly became a playable character. Despite being dead at the time this arc took place. Oh well, she's alive again now, so I guess that works. Everyone else gets powers named after quotes of their characters in this arc. But you don't, because you were not in it (and my other YA books aren't on hand to look up quotes for).
Size-changing – At night, you may grow to an unnatural size, increasing your strength as well. You are a role blocker.
Not Appearing – For your second power, I'm giving you something defensive. By not appearing in the book, you can forgo taking an action to disappear from the game at night, making you bulletproof.
