The problem is this: you can't know that until you let it out in the wild. And so many things can change or alter along the way, that a bad idea becomes a good one or a good one becomes a bad one.
Hell, think of it this: "Green Lantern gets his powers from a power ring. Let's make there be a thousand of him!" Or: "What if there were a whole rainbow of power rings!"
The ideas sound a bit stupid, but there are many that consider stories revolving around the Corps or multiple Corps to be the best stories DC has put out in years.
Or to go with an example that I love: I was young when the clone saga was starting. I loved the cartoons and had my first run of reading comics, basically, when Ben Reilly became Spider-Man. I was an avid Spider-Man reader during the clone saga and quickly dropped it after Peter came back.
One man's trash is another man's treasure.
And like I said to Thrumble, let's say this arc ends and we can all look at it and go, "yeah, that was kind of stupid."
So what?
It's just 6 comics out of a few thousand. Life marches on.

A comic book ended with a twist designed to shock readers and encourage them to pick up the next issue to find out more? Stop the ####ing press. Guess it's time to decry the writer and start the usual Twitter death threats.
Call me if it lasts more than a story arc and/or isn't a case of altered reality. If Marvel really means to make Steve an honest villain in the long run, I'll call party foul alongside those of you who hate this. If this story ends with Steve overcoming some sort of mind control or reality-alterations, I'm going to laugh at the people claiming that this has irrevocably ruined the character.

I don't disagree with these views. Numerous comics I liked have sucked, gotten better, sucked again, ad infinitum.
I do think Hydra Steve is a ####ty idea and intend to enjoy hating on it.

Dunno if that was the best move. You probably missed out on some cool stuff, True Believer.
I like to check in on fallen favorites from time to time to see if I like 'em again.

I love it, and it could 100% stick and be canon and I'd still love it. Cap has always been a super boring character long term. There's not much in the way of real dramatic character moves. This puts a real bump in his story. Now, they'll probably retcon it at some point to be a mind #### by Uber-Red Skull or something even more stupid than doing it in the first place, but I enjoy it.
Said the guy who obviously has never read a Captain America solo series

You know, I think if more people I dealt with had the honesty to go, "yeah, I'm just #####ing because I enjoy #####ing about it," without a sense of ego, I'd get along better with a lot of haters.
I'm giving you props, sir.

I've stuck through some pretty bad story arcs in comics over the years. But once I reach a point where I'm annoyed enough with it to give up on it, I don't look back. I did the same thing with X-men titles during Grant Morrison's "secondary mutations" run. Haven't picked up an X-book since.
Usually, I end up filling that slot in my collecting with another book. More and more often, its been stuff from smaller publishers.
There are 542,000 children in foster care. Talk to your local foster and adoptive agency. You could change a life.
It's a gimmick that'll last for about two issues before it's revealed that he's a double agent.
Seriously, no one at Marvel would be dumb enough to f*** this severely with Cap.
My first thought was William Burnside, AKA retconed Cap from the 50's (partnered with retconned Jack Monroe Bucky), AKA Grand Director. Looks just like Steve, superhuman Str/Dex/Con (yeah, lots of D&D, here).
He's a great candidate for an imposter bad guy that thinks just like Steve, because he kinda is.

There is a reason I didn't pick up the book besides the look of the new uniform and then finding this out Make Mine Not Marvel............ Thanks for ruining The Best Classic Marvel Hero.... I mean Cap Is American Ideals brought to life and he stands by his word and is the greatest leader in all of The Marvel Universe
In other news, The Joker is Bruce Wayne's twin brother and they have been secretly working together to rule Gotham, one as a criminal and the other as a vigilante. And Alfred is really their father, not Thomas Wayne. Hail Hydra.
It's one issue thats setting up future issues and getting people talking. Nothing new, really, I'm sure there is more to the story. And if not, then it will return to status quo eventually.Hail Hydra!
Regarding #####ing, a recent encounter has me taking the following tack for the foreseeable future: "Yeah, I don't like this. No, I don't owe you an explanation. If you must have one, here: '::BLANK:: stole my bike.' Conversation over."
