The problem is, no one has done it yet. There is no safety net. Nothing to migrate to. You seem to misunderstand the issue. If HCR is gone, there's no place online to get complete dial information. I think you're overlooking the amount of people that use this site specifically just for the Units section and team building. From what I've seen and heard, that section of the community far outnumbers those of us that are active in the forums. Nobody made the argument that the forum keeps the game alive, you interjected that on your own. The Units section, however, is honestly what keeps any kind of organised play propped up. There's a reason that every competitive game has these kinds of databases.
You seem slightly defensive over what I'm saying.

My comment about this forum keeping the game alive was based off of something you said earlier in the thread. You may make a distinction between the units section and the forum, but I certainly don't; it's all HCRealms.
Also, I'm aware nobody has created an alternative, hence, the suggestion that someone do so. I don't know code from a hole in the ground, but surely someone on these forums knows a thing or two about how the Units section tics, yes?
Please don't say I'm misunderstanding the problem, when you're misunderstanding what I said: I'm aware that the Units section is important, and I'm aware that it's slowly sinking, I was just saying, even if the Units section as we know it disappears one day, life for HC players will go on, they'll just have to do it the way we did it before the units section.
You should all do what I do to team build: Just write your figure's names onto slips of paper and draw them from a hat until your reach build total.*
*(That's literally what I do, just replace hat with ziplock bag)
There’s no way I could team build without the units section. I’d be lost. Especially anything with keywords. I keep a subscription because I pretty much can’t play this game without this site.
And the strategy articles, while varied in quality, exist here. Ever click on “level up your game” on Heroclix.com? It’s one article from 2 years ago walking you through building a hilariously horrible team.
I’m with the mob that thinks if this site dies and is not functionally replaced, clix dies.
Give Spidey a FIRE FLOWER! Put a TANOOKI SUIT on Batman! Make your Blood Brother a HAMMER BROTHER!
Just chiming in that there are plenty of players that don't visit this site ever and are very active in the game. There are also team building apps (which I don't use) but they exist.
Boy, I sure have pissed off a lot of people lately on the interwebs. Sorry to all.
What about calling them "Papillomas?"

Yeah I have a friend/local player who hardly sets foot here and is still on the cutting edge of team building and clix-related news. It's all on something called Facebook, apparently.
My H/W link does not reflect the wants for my collection, it is a list of figures that I already have, but still "want" to play.

You realize those apps pull the dial information from this site, right?
What are these apps? Are they android only? I haven’t been able to find anything useful for iTunes for a couple years now.

I get a lot of people want this site to stay up and running which is good to have such a committed community. But it’s kinda not good that so many people are essentially saying they can’t function/play Heroclix without realms. Several people have stated there are alternatives should realms cease to exist. They may not be as good as realms, and realms is pretty damn good admittedly, but they are alternatives none the less. Realms shouldn’t be crutch that you can’t exist without.

I have an all teams spreadsheet with over 200 tabs with all the figures I own. I might use the units section once in a while for purchasing decisions on older stuff.
Mostly I use this site for new sets dial & evidence threads to decide on CUR or cherry picking now & updating my own spreadsheet. (Edit & someone is maintaining those).
This site is def. valuable as long as I stay in the game but after TNG & a couple WWE sets, the product line can end without any tears on my part. I've given my reasons elsewhere including too many remakes and more reading SP's than playing the game. I've also said before, I'll keep playing after new stuff stops coming out. As a home player, I already have enough to play like forever. Anything from here forward is bonus icing on an already huge cake.
(Edit - PS that's close to how I pick the map only I pull 3 slips, roll for which team gets map choice, and have that team pick the map they like best).

There have only been 2 that I know of. Don't know if they're on iTunes. One died years ago, as it stopped being updated. Both apps pulled Unit data directly from this site.
Whatever these supposed "alternatives" are that people keep talking about, they really don't exist. Of course, these people also seem to purposely be ignoring the previously mentioned issues, and instead want to make false equivalencies and put words in others mouths.
And a lot of these players that claim to not use the Units section are going to be higher end players that don't need to spend much time team building on their own. Not everybody has access to a social circle that can brainstorm/discuss/playtest this stuff. And, news flash, those kinds of people are not the ones that keep the game in business.

HC Manager for Android is more useful to me than the units section here. Updated well, has an excellent team builder, and allows you to download your collection to a spreadsheet. It is a real alternative, and better in many ways.
