That wasn't because Snipe Hunter is bad. Your opponent just had a lucky topdeck.

Love it when people put things down to luck. If he had of had MoF, Apprentice, Reaper, Don, Tomato etc he wouldn't have been stuck with a dead Thestalos. Snipes cost outweights the outcome. That is why I don't use him.
But we can agree that Snipe Hunter has many flaws, but benefits also. As YOSEFNEGUSSIE@COMCAS just demonstrated, you just can't throw it into a cookie cutter deck and expect it to win for you all the time. Cards you put in a deck have to work for you regardless of the outcome. Otherwise, it's a weak link, which is the argument of most of the nay-sayers of this card here have. It's 1/3 chance at failure (or 2/3 chance at success, however you see it) is evidence that it is a weak link in a deck. Now mind you, that fact may not always be obvious. The one T-8 deck that had Snipe Hunter despite it's "top-8", I'm sure did not do well consistently (was that this Eric Wu person's deck, or someone else).
first, the real problem was him dropping a brain control to snipe hunter. especially if he was using a CC monarch deck. if he were using this for a F/D spell/trap, that would be silly, as attacking would have brought about the same result, and he could have kept the brain control, and not have worried about the cyber dragon special summon.
secondly, for everyone who says it's a bad top deck when you have no cards in hand, hey, if I can recall the many times I've seen players with a HANDFUL of monarchs with no way to bring them out, I can also say that it's worth a shot to run snipe hunter.
Thirdly, at 1500 attack, he's not that bad. if he's around for more than one turn, he really can become problematic.
Yeah, I have no idea why anyone would use him, unless they wanted to put monsters in the grave yard. If pot of avarise was not restricted, this card would be broken. Also, like i said, it can be good for return, necro, bazoo, and etc.
it would be so broken (way more than multiple poa) if night assailant wasn't restricted.

but hey, everyone has their own feeling on this.
I rather have a monarch in my hand than a snipe hunter. If i'm top decking i have better chances top decking a cyber dragon, bran control, soul, pre, call, or what ever i run, than getting a card to my hand so i can use snipe to take a chance and discard my only card in hand to destroy something that could be chainable.
Bottom line for me: Have I already spent all my slots I'm going to on DDWL, DDA, Asura, MS2, Don, Apprentice, OVM? If yes, Snipe Hunter can go in. Also, what the hell am I running that I've got room for whatever I need? If no, fill holes and start over.
I don't really like chances myself, so you probably won't see me running this in most decks. However, I give it it's props. the odds do favor it, and it can thrive in a luck-based deck, with cards such as dice re-roll and the like. But I think the best part of it is that it's a fiend with good stats. (compared to most of the other meta mons of that level, anyway). Not only does it give you the oppurtunity to discard fiends with its effect for necrofear (fiends very much like Night Assailant), it also gives you a shot at killing a card, while being a fiend itself, and thereby being necrofood (if Waldo doesnt mind me borrowing his term =) itself.
As for whether it is good as a whole or not, let the decklists do the talking. from my count, there were two decks in the T8 that had this card in there, meaning they must have been able to use it succesfully, consistently. This makes sense, since it IS a two in three shot. However, this Wu guy, probably like many others have and will, Got unlucky. I know most people don't like me bringing it down to luck, but come on, four missed shots?
All in all, it depends on how much you like chance, how much your deck likes cards in the grave, and how lucky you feel the day you build your deck.
And, if it so happens that you're luck isn't exactly cooperating on any given day, just swap it out in game two for something more consistent from your side deck.

as everyone else has said about this scenario this was an obvious misplay. you should not have discarded a key card from your hand to destroy a face down. you simply should have just attacked. even if you lose you snipe hunter to a saku it doesnt matter.
But at the same time it is easy for a person to sit back and tell you were you made your mistake in a match. it is a different thing all together to actually play it that way do to any number of factors that we didnt know about.
next is to say that while I can see how snipe hunter is a good card (albeit not great) I could not use a card like that simply because my luck is a lot like how eric wu's is. I simply do not have the luck to be able to use the card effectively.
The only things that I have to say about the top eight decks is that it was very obvious that the two players with the chain burn decks didnt build there decks. neither one knew how to play the deck (i mean one of the decks lost to a stien deck) he had a morphing jar in hand (which he didnt set on his next turn) knowing that his deck runs burn and that five new cards would mean the opponent would lose on his next turn.
havn't read the thread, but i wanted to throw in my 2 cents. i'm pleasantly suprised by the top 8 decks. alot of burn, a couple main boarded snipes and only 2 decks bothered with smashing ground and both decks kept it as side board tech.

The main point that only Krazykilroy seems to have mentioned with this example was that he drew a Snipe Hunter and was able to use it. Now you might be wondering what I am talking about but look at these past arguments...

If he had topdecked that Monarch first turn, then he would have had no defense and would have been left open to a direct attack because Brain Control offers no defense what-so-ever. Snipe Hunter, while a risk, has its uses and will become popular with duelists who find a way to abuse his effect (like necrofood, PoA materials, or dropping that tribute monster for Call of the Haunted) while it will become unpopular with duelists who prefer determined effects that will happen no matter what.
Just my two cents on Snipe Hunter, I wouldn't use him because he doesn't fit into my theme, but I will if I can find a way to include him.
