I voted that I will be buying the same amount of boosters as I do now, since I love playing MW and I don't plan on quitting anytime soon. Yes, I am a BM as well, though not on a regular basis and that does not affect my decision at all. I played Magic through the blocks and stuff like that and I can deal with doing it that wa again only through a different company. The only thing that may hinder this, is if everyone else in my area quits the game, though I doubt they all will. Many of them are also just as addicted to this game and to the fluff that goes with it.
Dang, I would have voted for the last option if I was able to. I instead voted for "less," to represent the three I would buy to compete in a Marquee, *IF* I ever decide to do that. Other than that, singles.
The vast bulk of what I have is FFE and DA, and once that is done, I will have to throw together random units to make an army. I suppose I do not mind spending under twenty dollars to buy a 450 point army of current units, since I could care less about winning.
But other than maybe a Marquee, which the odds of me going to have now dramatically decreased, no more boosters! Well, maybe old olds that are retried, because they will probably go for a third of the price.
Actually, I was starting to get bored with MW BEFORE this annoucement, so I was planning on buying less boosters anyways.
Really, all the annoucement does is change the way I'll be collecting the pieces. Instead of holding on to alot of stuff from each set/faction. I think I'm going to concentrate on pieces from a few specific factions.
I had already begun this process months ago by trading away most of my SC, BR, SH, and HL stuff, but keeping some keep pieces from each of those factions.
With the retirement annoucement, I'll probably limit myself to organized events that involve boosters and unrestricted and go more faction pure. I was originally planning on trying to maintain 4 or 5 factions, but since I'll be buying less boosters, I'll probably go down to 2 or 3 factions to build my trade pool.
Well let's see now...roughly 41% say less boosters, 23% will quit, 27% will still only buy the same amount of boosters, and only a little over 1% will actually buy more. Yep, we got some MC Hammer School of Business grads in WK.
And how is this decision supposed to help them make more money again :p?
I put "singles directly, no boosters" but that's not entierly true...I WILL buy boosters for the Sealed , but ONLY for the sealed ...It used to be that I'd throw down a couple (40+) of bucks on release day to (hopefully) get some Uniques in a few boosters, and THEN buy 70+ dollars in singles, well, not any more...I might even narrow down on my factions (which means I'll likely have to drop 2, one to accomidate JF and the Other to keep my collection silm...)
Really, I think the whole retierment thing was stupid...I mean, i'll be spending SOOO much less money now on this ...now that I know that eventually the pieces that I spent so much to get through boosters (or get trade fodder to get through trades) was worthless...
I love this game, but this is a great dissappointment to me. I will see how this ordeal turns out. Hopefully whenever they do cancel a set. it will be like 1 year at a time. If so, i could live with that. Canceling factions is one thing, we all knew that was coming. But this is a complete Stonewall.
I voted for none-quitting option. I was going to get 2 cases of the Flacon's Prey set before I heard about this, but now, I'm not getting any.
The forced retirement issue hurts kids the most since they don't have the disposable income to waste on this addiction. How is this going to bring in new players? Because of this, I can see the number of players at my only venue drop by nearly half right now, and I don't know about the rest. Once the venue attendance drops, they'll probably end up leaving too.
Why should I sink anymore money into this if my pieces are going to become unusable prematurely?
PS: Anyone looking for a *COMPLETE* (minus Sixo Nova Cat of course) set of SC? Have many duplicates, formations of the useful infantry (CBA, Shock Troopers, Kage, Hoverbikes, Salamander, ISBA, GDBA...) plus 4 Donars, all U/LEs w/ pins, boxes, dossiers. Also have a nice big tacklebox by Flambeau to go with it, holds entire set in compartments.
My house burned down on October 26th, turning my beloved collection into so much fuel and air pollution.
I had virtually all the sets collected and roughly 75% of the LEs, plus a dropship. (I played ALOT.) I've been scrabbling since then to replace my favorite pieces, but while I expect this unwanted policy change to drop prices and increase trade availablity, after this, my heart's just not in it as fanatically anymore.
I'll probably try to finish acquiring the Knights and Paladins I lost, as well as my beloved Spirit Cats and Dragon's Fury. I still help my friend Jeremiah (He lost his whole collection as well. He had left it a my place for display in my antique curio cabinet.) collect Bannson's an Steel Wolves, but he's feeling pretty betrayed as well.
I read the chat transcript, but it reeks of self-justification, spin doctoring and blatently ignored many real concerns voiced by others, like myself, who have supported this game (if not it's earlier CBT incarnation as well,) from the beginning.
It breaks my heart really. I've made alot of friends playing this game. Now most of them are talking about dumping their units on e-bay to try to get their "investment" back out. I myself have never sold a single unit on e-bay, but without anyone to play, I seem to only have two options. Bail, or collect enough stuff to have my friends come over and use my collection. It's a tough call right now. Thanks for listening to my pain.-Jules
I am a fighter, so I don't WANT to quit, so I will buy a LOT less and pray WK comes to their senses before they flush themselves down, but it may come to quitting once I see how the retirement details flesh out. Golly, this SUX!
I'll probably buy singles as I collect DF, a SC and a BR Regiment plus Knights. I have almost all the older units I collect. I believe the new sets will have fewer units for each faction so I'll problably buy few boosters and then trade or go to ebay.
I'll keep on playing with friends, but I'm curious how this restriction will be enforced, specially outside the US.
I am a new player to the game - I started with a DA starter set and a couple of FFE boosters - liked it so much I went on Ebay and Bought a HL and a SS army - this was before WK's announcement. Since then I have bought a LI booster and that is all. I will probably only buy off ebay now to collect units I like. This is to much like Magic - change the rules, increase the power and sell to only those people who are willing to keep spending to remain competitive.
Casual play with friends is looking better and better.
