TrevortheOkay: This is one of the best games out there? If you mean clicky games, I would say you are right, but have you played Warmachine, or Warhammer, or Confrontation? If you had, you would see what "tactically dynamic" really is. MWDA is really the most basic of tabletop strategy/tactics games.

The whining that goes on in this place is baseless and non-stop, and has a way of eating away at my sanity. All people ever DO is complain and whine, and never talk about anything CONSTRUCTIVE. I get so tired of it, it completely drains me and makes me question my will to continue in this game. I start to wonder if maybe the whiners are right.
But then I -- gasp! -- PLAY the game and go back to having a blast. People, this is one of the best games out there. If you can't see that for what it is, then quit. I, for one, am tired of your blubbering.
You know, there are plenty of valid reasons why one would complain about this game. Sure there are some kids along with adults who post nonsensical complaints about problems that don't exist, but I for one believe there are glaring flaws in this game's current rules. Flaws that warrant complaints.
I personally also agree with Kenjelly 100%. I have very little non Wizkids table top wargaming experience, but I have been playing tactical video games for about 10 years now. Heroclix, Mechwarrior and Mage Knight are nowhere near some of the games I have played on a tactical level. On a logical level. On a balanced level.
Here is what happens around here int he sticks. We play when we can gather up enough players, and we have fun. I come on MWrealms, and I lose that fun. I hear constant complaints. Do some things need to be changed? yes. Will they? I hope so.
As for one of the best games out there, depends on how you define best. I personally like the clicky games. One small rule book that is included when you buy a starter, a SE card, and the FAQ and you can play right ouf of the box. Don't need to spend countless hours painting and posing an army that cost a couple of hundred to buy, and lets not forget the numerous books of rules you have to buy..... This game is easier to get into and PLAY, and it plays much faster than any other miniature game. I think highly of both of those issues.
Kind of like chess and checkers, easy to play difficult to master. I think too many people look at this game and compare it to CBT. ant that comparision is unfounded, and not valid. Realize what this game IS, not what it IS NOT.
Now I am going to sorely miss hakkenshi. We might not have agreed, but I do respect his opinions and posts.
The tone of MWRealms community definitly has an impact on the game. New players that come here and see overly negative comments will be driven from the game. Misery feeds. Constructive communication, however, aids a lot.
I try too stay constructive because of this. But many times Those who complain and do so constructively are torn down by those who disagree with the "Complainers." And the inverse is true as well, there are those that complain in very negative tones and tear down the community a little every time as well.
I used to play a game called World War II Online. The community drove me from the game. I went back to playing it again and have kept way from the forums. I have enjoyed the game much more because I dont see all of the negativity.
For people that actually have a LIFE, and can't invest hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of man hours putting together a Warhammer 40K army, or play a single eight hour (!) CBT game, Dark Age is a godsend. The tactics are deceptively deep, the game is varied and dynamic, and it plays quick. You don't have to BS around with painting and gluing, filling bubbles on 'Mech sheets, or poring over TROs. Heck, you don't even have to read the sweet little dossiers that come with Uniques to enjoy this game.
It's a fantastic game, one of the best out there. For sheer playability and FUN, I truly believe Dark Age can't be beat. Some people trying to make the game into something it isn't, or incessantly complaining about it not being something else, ruin it for everyone. Honestly.

Nanold is right! :)
Venue-supported events with custom balancing rules are loads of fun!
I've thought of quitting, and even began selling off my more valuable LEs back in February. Then I sold off all my Steel Wolves (no offense, just never play them).
The prices have dropped so far that there's not much reason to keep selling. All my most valuable LEs are gone anyhow. But I certainly understand the sentiment.
Making our own fun ruleset sparked my interest in the game again.

You have to understand that many of the people on these forums have been playing war games for a long time. They just want a little more depth and sense with the way the game works.
@Warhammer 40k - If you hate painting so much then don't play it. I actually enjoy painting my pieces and find it one of the best parts of WH and WH40K. I don't spend hunderds of hours either, even though I do take a while. To play the game you don't have to get a perfect paint job. All you need to do is put some paint where the color needs to be and you're done.
@CBT - My friends and I usually only engage with up to one lance of 'Mechs and a lance of support units. This usually keeps the game time down to just a few hours.
Yes, MW is a fun game, but for people who have been playing various war games for a many years, MW seems to be lacking somethings. Most (not all) of the people complaining raise very good concerns about the game (heck, some of the guys who complained were some of the best players on these boards). If all of us just sit back and let things go on, this game would degenerate into some simple slugfest between pieces of plastic.
Your attitude toward this isn't helping either. If you get so aggrevated with these kinds of threads then just ignore them. No one is forcing you to read them.
P.S. - Yes I do have a life outside of wargaming. I strongly resent your implication that I have no life out side of this. That comment was uncalled for and shows either your lack of restraint or your own immaturity.

Amateur psychoanalysis aside, my discourse was not directed at you specifically. And even if it were, it would be my right to make it, just as it is yours to do the same.
Regardless, my "attitude" is simply that of a person growing more and more fed up with an overly negative community. This is a point no less valid than that of the multitudes who constantly express -- in ways that are often less than eloquent or even civil -- their distaste for game mechanics with which they have issue. Why is my tone unfavorable, but theirs widely accepted? Could it be that there's possibly a double standard in place? It's chic to bash the game, but taboo to bash the bashers? Hmm!
Regardless, I will not relinquish my position, and I will not apologize for my statements -- to wit, I stand fully behind them. If you don't like them, to quote you, don't read them. And don't lecture me on maturity when I have, to this point, kept everything academic.
First of all, FP brings my favorit clan from CBT to MW so there is no sense to quit now for me. I have waited this too long to leave now. Of course retirement makes me feel bad but i'm taking most logical solution to this problem, i'm collecting and playing mainly Liao and JF when FP comes out. Its always sad to lose so many factions becouse of amount of minis that are from sets that are in retirement list.
Disagreement and negativity are needed, otherwise improvements would never be made. It would be excrutiatingly boring if everyone was happy with everything and everyone got along. Unfortunately, the MWDA game mechanics are lame and some people will speak up about it. If you are happy with the game, good for you. Voice your opinion and we will voice ours. If you happen to notice a thread that is obviously a negative one, DON'T read it. For those of us who don't call Wizkids our pimp, we can feel free to voice our opinion without fear of getting smacked around.
I am hanging on to all my MW stuff in case things get better. But I have recently taken up playing D&D Miniatures. It is a very fun game that has taken all the areas where WK went wrong, and fixed them. The plastic is durable and won't break as easily. The sets are smaller, boosters cheaper, and you get more units. Itis a nice game.
WK may pull through and fix things. I am going to check out whats going on when Falcons Prey comes out. I haven't been on these boards as much as I used to, and not much at all lately, and have been spending an increased amount of time on Wizards of the Coast boards. This game looks to me like it could go either way. It could go down the can, or it could become better. I hope it becomes better, but if it doesn't, I already have collected a fair sized collection of D&D Miniatures (for a lot cheaper than MW) so I certainly won't become bored...
I don't hear so much winning from my 7 year old when she is grounded from TV for a week. If you are an old CBT player (like myself) and can't grow with the game, then go back to CBT, good luck, it is a dying game.
To all you "BUT THE MECH IS KING AND I"M MAD BECAUSE IT ISN"T", go learn CBT or go to CAV, if multilevel combat teams and strategy are beyond you then you will be better off in a different game.
To the "THE ARTY IS TOO STRONG" or TANK DROPS ARE NO FAIR" and the "CHARGING IS SO ******", same advice as above. It is obvious that you are incapable of learning or adapting.
Last week at Lies, Lies, Lies I killed Arnis and a Behemoth II with two 66 point SS MiningMechs and Melcom McPherson laying down three 1 point pogs to keep infantry on the run.You don't like it, tough. With Ranged ballistic Attacks being reduced by 1, I can deliver 8 quick points of of damage and at 66 points per MiningMech, well when they had done their job and were turned to scrap I was way ahead in points. It is called strategy.
I won the first two and lost the last and the tournament to a guy who was talented enough to do his tank drops (something I am very skilled at killing) just out of my charging and weapons range. I'll be the first to say I don't like the very accurate AP Arty. I feel if the arty is so accurate it should do less damage and no SE, and if does 2 or more points of damage and or uses SE it should not be accurate. I hate Tank drops, that is why I don't use them and I love to kill them so much. But the point is that pogs, VTOLs, Tank drops, charges, and DFA (a favorite of all CBT players) are part of the game. You learn to adapt or find another game. I lost the last game when his tank drops killed one of my miningmechs and all I could kill was a trike. I chased his Zeus all over the board with my Behemoth II and its SRM team meat shield. I hit him and he never fired the Zeus. But hey, he will never be able to use that army on me again and win and because of the scenario rules my VTOLs were grounded or it would have been a whole different game.
I watched two leagues die due to people #####ing, whining, and complaining, which caused may new players to leave. I am doing my best to save MWDA at my venue. If you have suggestions on how to improve the game, poll a group, gather your findings, and send a petition to WK witha list of players who support you. All you do with this #####ing is ruin it for other players.
Maybe you need to take a break for a month or two, or maybe cut down on playing, or even just play for fun at your buds, but stop ruining this game for those who love it and for the newbies. If you can't handle the mixed force tactics, go play CAV!

Actually CAV is a mixed force game. Try it some time. I like Mechwarrior and all, but I get tired of facing the same carp over and over again. "Adapt or die!!!" Dude try it yourself. If your SO good with your arty, challenge your self and build a force that does use arty, try a faction pure force, try something new and see if you can still win!
