Originally posted by Kotch Ah the UrbanMech. Then people really can say they pulled trash (cans) from boosters. Please, please no Urbies!! They make IndustrialMechs look good. They work in CBT but in that game weapon ranges actually exceed movement values. Inthis game they will just suck - BIG time.
As for the Flea. I'd prefer that comes after the Urbie I don't want!! :)
I'd prefer a No Dachi. A 'Mech with a Katana looks sooo cool. I liked the Talon as a light power-Locust.
Point 1: If they brought back the light urban mechs we could have more story line games. This would lead to battling it out in close combat with infantry and vehicles. The story lines would be great!
Point 2: Light mechs are fun to run, they aren't trash cans!
Point 3: These ultra light mechs would have to be slightly modified to play in MechWarrior. Such as fast moving, ok heat dials, and light weapons. With these minor changes they'd be perfect for MechWarrior!
Point 4: I'm surprised that more people aren't calling for these mechs. When there was only BattleTech mech's like the flea were a mainstay in most peoples armies.
We never really liked fielding the lighter of the light 'mechs in CBT. They couldn't take a hit from anything.
Now, an Urbanmech actually can take a hit, but sadly, we never fielded those, either. Watching the poor dears get run down by traditionally slow heavies is just too traumatic. :)
Light Mechs would rule the game with the AoD! you figure a locust like shin..... 11 attack movement of 14 range is small but look at their heat dials................
feild a few light mechs in the game and you have a killer army
bring on the raven, osiris, firefox, and the chimera those and other light mechs are the only mechs that i say would benifit from high attack values large movement and low defenses and a great heat dial in the new AoD game

You have seen an UrbanMech right? It looks like a trash can. That was my point. A trash can or one of those early grenades. :)
The reason the Urbie is bad is whilst it has OK armour for a Light (but many had the same and were better) it is slow - slower even than an Atkas - and carried an AC/10 and small laser so did OK damage-wise but had short range.
In MWDA slower than an Atlas means speed 4-5. AN AC/10 translates into a range of 10". So slow and short ranged so not much going for it.
I don't think you're getting it. I think that a light urban mech like the flea would be great. In order to make the flea work in MW it would have to be modified. It would have to be fast, have crapy armor, have AP or Flamers, possibly pulse, do light damage.
The concept is a very fast easy to kill mech.
Especially now with the new rules getting ready to come on line I think that it would be a great addition to the game.
No, karl, I don't think that you're getting it. I think that you and Kotch are operating with different terminologies. You have labeled the flea as a light urban mech, and that's fine and dandy if that works for you. However, when battletech enthusiasts hear the words "urban mech" they think of a small, squat, incredibly slow light mech that could take a beating. See the following for details:urbanmech info
My point is that you seem to consider light mech as urban mechs, and they're not the same thing.

The UrbanMech means a UM-R62 or UM-R63 class UrbanMech.
It was a crowd control machine packing a small laser and Class 10 autocannon. It had 2/3 of the speed of an Atlas.
Now I like light 'Mechs, you misunderstand me. I like the Mjolnir and light, fast things like Locusts translated well (better with Agility) but the UM-R63 would be dire. Slow with too short a range to use its weapon on a typical dynamic MWDA battlefield.
Now if it cost only 70 points I'd take that back and I would consider even fielding a lance of them!! :)
The Flea incidentally is an inferior Stinger in stats. I would rather field a jump-capable 'Mech in an Urban setting. Problem with the UM-R63 was its jump capability could not even get it over the average shopping mall so it was almost worthless.

"Spank" Boy that was a no holds bard gut wrenching clearification.
After looking at the Urban Mech stuff I guess I agree. All I was saying was that I would like to see some really light fast attacking mechs like the flea and the other light mechs.
I'd like some really fast attacking 'Mechs. Not sure the term "like the Flea" really applies :)
With a move of 6/9/0 (walk/run/jump) it was not exactly fast and its lack of jump jets didn't help.
A Raven does 6/9/0. I'd take one of them over a Flea any day. Or a Jenner, which does 7/11/5 and carries a LOT of firepower.
The 'Mechs I usually used in this role (fast harassers) were Locusts and Wasps at the cheap/light end of the scale and at the heavier end, an Owens or a Talon. I'd love a Talon: move 8/12/0 (so like a Locust) and it packs an ER Particle Cannon and twin medium lasers and decent armour to boot.
Like me' bruder, I feel dat this thing must be put out there to a vote. Just yesterday i waz talking to Nunzio after a slight altercation and he too agreed. let's Vote. SO I sayz one vote for the Flee.
A 30 ton Star League era mech with a move of 9/14/0. Now that is hauling. It's single weapon was a ER Large Laser or Large Pulse Laser. Not too shabby. It's armor was almost nothing though.
