Sheesh! All this talk of stealth systems, and how it is an abomination, etc, etc.
If the thing is mounting a Null-Signature system (not-Void Sig, not Stealth Armor), then the clear sculpt is correctly done. A Null-Sig system totally hides your unit, except from point blank visual inspection. But as the Mech takes damage, the system does not provide total concealment anymore. In fact, if any part of the system is rendered inoperative, the whole system is useless.
If you do not like it, do not buy it, do not use it, and let your opponent know you do not like it if they field it. Otherwise, leave it alone!
Y'know, all that's missing are the pitchforks and the cries of "heretic!"...
Guys, at no time has the article said "magical force field that make my shiney new mech disappear" - face it, this is a really cool figure that uses mimetic technology, something that isn't foreign to the CBT or MW universe. Sheesh, if you don't like it, don't acknowledge it - by acknowledging it, you give it credance by recognising it as a threat to all you hold dear.
It's just a really cool miniature. Really, what's so bad about that?

Maybe this is why CBT players are always asked to leave?

WHAT?! CBT players are the thing that are keeping the the game alive? I call Bull ####. Most CBT player REFUSE to play this game in the first place!
i am a fanatic of models and figures
i play warhammer 40k and fantasy
i play and collec some D&D and SW minis
i build paint gundam model kits
i am an avid fan of both CBT and mechwarrior
I THINK THIS MECH IS COOL!
guys lets face it, the world is changing, the GAME is changing times move forward not backward, sit back relax and enjoy the show. if you don't like it because it goes against all the things that CBT represents then don't buy it. please understand things change and usually they change with the flow of time, CBT is oldschool these things are for the new and the old to appreciate. whats wrong with cloaking technology? its the year 3000++ by then technology like this should be AVAILABLE. fresh things come our way all we can do is appreciate it and get on with our lives no use ranting at it, ranting only shows your LIMITED capacity to understand and accept. nobody is forcing you to like it or love it its basically your choice but please to make such awful comments to the design team and people involved with it is unfair. they were just trying to come out with something cool and i for one think it is cool both collection wise and gamewise you'll see
I'm not excited... Well, null sig indeed is found in CBT, but... really, I do not like the rendering of it with a transparent Mech. Now this is a matter of personnal taste, and the idea I have of the CBT world. But please, let us keep it at one mech, fitted with a freakingly rare bit of L3 tech.
Now, I see the pilot is a medium mech specialist from his card. But the Raptor is a 25 ton Omni, hence a light mech. Like fir the Ryoken and Shadow Cat, is it a heavier "2" version of a CBT mech?
Originally posted by topgun505 Berserk_Fury. Most 'Stealth' using light bending technology were implemented in Battle Armor. Equipping a BA is a LOT different than trying to make an entire MECH disappear. Not to mention it wouldn't really do much since MAD and thermal sensors would still spot it easily so hiding it visually isn't going to get you much.
Ah, yes, it's MUCH easier to make something with a limited powersupply (BA) disappear with light bending tech than it would be to make something with limitless power (Mechs reactor) do the same.
It's not invisibility. It's very good blending combined with exceptional electronic cammo. I seem to recall a certain Wolf's Dragoon mech that completely disappeared from all senors. Could this have been at work then? Hmmm? Perhaps a prototype? (yes, I know it's supposedly some zen power he had, but isn't a tech solution more palatable to the Mech warrior?)
OliverB: yeah....they forget that they would have no MWDA if not for people who supported CBT for the last 20+ years. I have nothing against the model itself, yeah its kewl, but so is an Chaos Dreadnaught in Warhammer 40 K. That doesn't mean a Dreadnaught should be included into MWDA. Go read the 30-40 plus original CBT books. The origins of the Gray Death Legion, Wolves on the Border, etc. Especially the older ones. That is the spirit of Battletech; which is to say, it was a military story, like We Were Soilders or Saving Private Ryan or the Battle of the Bulge, or any other war story set in the future. The Kell Phantom power was quasi mistical and more of a credit to their piloting and targeting prowess; it was also phased out, only being used in the warrior trilogy. There is some room for technilogical advances, but invisible, flying, teleporting, etc is not good ideas for this game. That is what upsets a lot of older CBT players. If I had never seen any older CBT stuff, I will say that MWDA would probably be very interesting to me, but coming from my background with the game, I am continually getting dissappointed.
Another note on stealth: in all the technical readouts, it never says anything regarding the Spectre and/or Exterminator being invisible to the naked eye, just hard to detect. In one of the links someone posted earlier on here, it even states that the mechs were "Recognized". To me, that means, they were "seen", as in with eyes.
Now, chameleons the reptile, don't they change color to suit their surroundings? If, by Chameleon Light Polarization they mean that if the mech is standing in the jungle, then its outer appearance resembles that of the jungle around it, that is kewl by me. Granted, a person standing 100 feet away from it would still be able to say....look at how that mech blends with the trees. That is how I always envisioned this. Once he steps out into the clear, his upper area would resemble the sky and lower would resemble whatever ground was around. Basically morphing the appearance so that at a distance he was very hard to see and then had the other baffles to prevent sensor detection until he was in weapons range to kill that commander, then fade back.
Also, I saw something about 4 other Liao mechs with stealth technology, I have not seen these. I havent read any tech readouts since the one that introduced the minimech battle armors. Not sure which that was. So, if there is something in those readouts stating that it makes mechs invisible to the human eye, then I guess my point is moot. But in everything I have ever read, TRO, FM, and bookwise, there was nothing that said that.
I am also not stating this as a rally cry for people to leave the game, I am just stating my feelings regarding it. If MW is your cup of tea, drink it up, it is not a bad game. I, myself, was hoping for something more in line with CBT.
To all you posting "null signature system WAAAH!" go read maximum tech and TRO's - the NSS did not make your mech _invisible_ to the human eye - it made it essentially invisible to sensors. How the heck are you going to mask a 3 story robot running across the battlefield? Answer: YOU AREN'T Yes, stealth armor and null signature system is useful and great at hiding a unit that isn't in open terrain, BUT THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A MECH CLOAKING DEVICE IN BATTLETECH. There has never been ANY such thing in Battletech *EVER* until the horrific abomination of Mechassault took CBT canon/continuity and obliterated it with a sinister laugh and a middle finger raised high to the hoards of dedicated CBT players who had been with the game since it was called Battle Droids.
I know the majority of people here don't care and will just look at this thing and say "cool sculpt!" (which, by the way, even I will admit, it is a cool sculpt) and be done with it.
But I warn you now, this will be the first bastardization of Battletech lore of many, many to follow. And since the majority of you are taking it with a smile on your face, don't be surprised when WK introduces alien invaders, teleportation, photon torpedoes, and 8 story high "uber mechs" to the game.
There are some things you just don't do to the continuity of a well established science fiction series. You don't write a Star Wars book and say that Han Solo is actually a woman. You don't do a Star Trek movie and say the Klingons are actually a peace loving society who are just a little grumpy sometimes. You don't do Lord of the Rings and say it was actually Pippin who carried the ring, not Frodo. I could go on but I think you get the point.
So go ahead, act like this isn't a big deal. I'm keenly aware that I'm making a big fuss over something 95% of the people on this board don't care about. It's probably nothing.
...just keep one thing in mind:
By his own admission, Kevin took a concept that HE KNEW flew in the face of Battletech continuity and lore and made a figure just because "he thought it was cool." He basically said "F-U" to all the players who care about such things and WK went right along with it.
I just want you to log that in memory and don't forget it.

I respect the passion with which you speak, but I disagree whole-heartedly with your point for two reasons:
1. It's a game. Move on.
2. WK bought the rights to the CBT universe. If they want Mechs to sprout tu-tu's, they can. It's up to us to response by purchasing their products or not. Once again...move on.
Are people realizing that this mech isn't supposed to be invisible? It's supposed to be NEARLY invisible, and so casting it in clear REPRESENTS it BLENDING IN with its surroundings, just like stuff that is RARELY BUT OCCASIONALY described in CBT fiction and fluff. There are stealth suits. There are mechs with optic camo. It's not magic. It's not invisible. It's sci-fi, just like CBT, and it's in keeping with SPECIFIC ELEMENTS of that universe.
And a reminder for all the CBT purists, there was some pretty dumb stuff in the fiction! Like the leapfrogging/mech dam of Aiden Pryde? The old fiction isn't perfect, so why can't it get tweaked a little from time to time? Is the future supposed to be more fixed than the past?
And btw, Draddog didn't say that it "broke continuity" - he called it a "possible breach", which it isn't even. It just represents a very rare aspect of CBT. If you're going to be dogmatic about the fiction, then you have to take it all... even Birdpeople. Be thankful it wasn't an infantry stand of Bird Peasants.
Originally posted by xyberbratt such a shame, this is probably the first send-away that won't be useful for play. I mean, Ezekiel Crow, Greg Vederman, Geo Keane, Colin Yukinov, Nikol Brahe, and Vincent DeLeon are regularly seen making opponents wince, right?
Send Aways are typically so amazing that they are must have's for play.
Actually, when Nikol and Colin came out, they were pretty good pieces.
I used Nikol up through Liao Incursion to great effect. Rarely loosing a game with her. She packs good numbers, steady stats, and good heat for a reasonable cost. High minimum ranges, but I've beat my way through agility mechs with her. Unlike some others she won't break the bank in a 450 game.
