It does add more variables to the game, which keeps things exciting. But don't forget that everybody has to agree with those cards being used in the game during tournaments.
Just like everyone has to agree to use Planetary Condition cards - the requirements are the same. I think we will have to see the appropriate Tournament rules before we can say for sure how they will effect the tournaments.
Mission cards seem to be "promoted" like PC cards... "Optional" when first announced, but they will probably be mandatory in tourny play.
That's fine with me! Anything that makes the game more unpredictable and encourages more well rounded armies suits me just fine. PC cards have already shown us how damaging they can be to the "metagame" (is there a metagame anymore?)
The big question will be: Will you use the same Mission Card for a tournament, or will you be restricted to playing it just once, like PC cards are now?
#### people, do you actually read these things before making comments?
"In casual play, they fall under the “All Players/Single Card” category, meaning you and your opponent must each agree to play them, and you may play only one per game."
Anybody else wants to ask how much points these cost, or what is gonna stop your enemy from playing all eight since there is no point cost?
@com raven:: how much is the point cost again?? :p
they will make these manditory for tourneys soon, just wait. just like planetary condition cards... all other aspects will probably be the same too, bring 4, use one per round, then discard, etc. no duplicating, and can bring blanks, etc., etc., etc.,
No a sylph is not a vehicle. Speed mode is defferent that base type. Vehicle is a base type like infantry and mech. VTOL is a speed mode like wheeled, foot, and hover.
Unless you are not being serious LQ and then you can just ignore me. ;)
well, i cant see the cards, so i cant debate it further, but as i understood it, slyphs are onthe infantry base, but are treated as vehicles as far as AA and the speed mode and the like. theirs one for the rule people and FAQ i guess ?
AA is targetting a speed mode (not a base type). If you shoot at a sylph with an energy weapon, they will still only take one damage just like any other infantry. They can't be charged, DFAed or rammed just like any other infantry.
They just will not qualify for this card.
I am 100% relieved and glad that these are FREE to add to your battleforce, and also that there is a nearly 100% chance that they will be required in Competetive play. That gets rid of nearly all of the balance issues. The only thing left is that will certain Mission Cards be easier to fulfill than others? Something tells me that they'll all be pretty easy, or if you're going to win anyways, will be completing your Mission (e.g. If you destroy their highest-cost Unit, it's almost guaranteed that you will be winning anyways).
Cav's right Quim. Speed mode is differant from base type. Remember HoverBikes? Not a vehicle because they were on an infantry dial, so they could capture (til that was FAQed).
I like the idea of Mission Cards (MCs??) but this one they show (just an opinion guys) looks weak and not very inspired. I was hoping for more. And was hoping for more than 8. My biggest problem with PCs is the lack of variety. Still, I really am looking forward to the Firepower set.
Here is my question - Mission Cards add a VC, right? Let us say that I am playing "Deliver the Payload" and my opponent is playing "Seek and Destroy" (blow up the enemies highest piece) so we each have an extra VC at stake. In this example, my only VTOL is salvaged above blocking terrain and dies a horrible, flaming death while Aiko in Grider w/ Decoy (my most expensive piece) is demolished by artillery and MFDAs.
Does my opponent get two VCs from successfully completing his mission AND stopping my from completing mine? Or is my mission separate and just listed as a loss?
