I can't even tell if, during my cheating experience, the cheater was doing it intentionally or unintentionally, or whether or not it was actually cheating... ;)
He was a kid with a really loud, grating voice. I played against him in two separate tourneys.
What he would do was that whenever he attacked, he just roll quickly and then loudly declare "HIT!" even before I could check the stats and compute if it was a hit indeed or not.
Another thing he did was to measure the movement of his figs straight through blocking terrain even though none of his figs had Flight!
We also once had a game where he Formation-Moved a bunch of Chargers at double their Charge Move (I didn't notice until after the game)!
Lastly, he had this funny way of rolling his dice. He would just DROP them on the table sharply- doing so, they didn't bounce, giving him high rolls most of the time he did it.
The first time I played him, I was suspicious of all he was doing, but I couldn't find any real evidence that he was cheating, just some observations of funny game practices. Most of what he was doing could easily have been because of ignorance of the rules (he was a new player), or was just really a weird habit. I called the Warlord, but with little to work with, we both had to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Anyway, he lost both games against me, with me losing very little in terms of casualties and ultimately taking the Lion's share in victory points. My second game with him, I even wiped him out, with him taking down only 1 guy. ;)
The next time I saw him, he'd decided to quit MK and was selling his figs. :D
The more regular form of cheating I see doing on at tourneys is placing an action counter on a figure and then removing it at the end of the turn or removing one at the begining and then using that figure without pushing it.
I agree with Messenger.... i've seen ppl try to trick roll. The tournaments I participate in... the place supplies you with dice. They have a bag full of the same dice and you just take 2. This way, no worries of people using trick dice.
And I have played with people that will try saying things to distract you while you roll and such. A guy would say "roll your miss" or i'd hear "MISS!!!!" when i'm rolling. Sometimes you wanna smack the #### out of them... but you keep your cool.
I'm really bad at this sort of thing, actually... when I don't bring counters with me, and I rely on memory to determine which figures have tokens, well, it's all bad. Usually I'll do ok, except for a turn or three during a game. I'll declare an action, and it'll be like
"didn't you use that figure last time"
"ummm..."
*backtrack a few turns to see who moved what*
"Oh yea... I did"
It looks really bad... but it's completely unintentional. I'm pretty good about the facing though... I make sure to state out loud what my intentions are, so there is no confusion later (ex. Ok, my fig is now 10.5" away DTD, so you can't hit me with a 10" attack, but I can ram you at 10" next turn) One time I did do a deliberate cheat, in a friendly game... not too proud of the fact either... I did the math in my head after it was over, and I found out that I would have lost had I not done that... I felt pretty bad that I cost the guy the game.
Yea... It's not too fun... I really hate what I did back then... since, it's all been by the book, making sure everything is precise and such... but I really hate that one time.
well, at one of the two places I play, there's this one kid I can't stand, he always tries to cheat, whether its trying a formation heal, a formation ranged attack with two phookas (and nothing else), claiming scatter damage is five inches away, moving figs around to block his opponents line of site or give him LOS.
After the first time I played him, and lost (conquest tourney, first time I played with those rules), I now watch everything he does when I play him and don't hesitate to call him a cheater, and even if I'm not playing him, but am at the table next to him, I warn his opponents what sort of things to watch out for.
Besides him, the only time I saw something that was intentionally cheating was with the warlord. We were playing a conqest army, everyone with 1200 pts, no titans, versus his castle. He cheated by playing five shyft matriarchs, and ruled that if someone could capture them (even using a ranged capture) and bring them outside the walls, they'll get 5x the points. Oh, and the matriarchs also had a 30 inch phasing, move 30 inches, attack, then move back.
True, this ruling didn't affect the outcome of the game, and it was just for fun, it was annoying.
this one time a kid under the name kidraconum, quickly after rolling his dice turned a critical miss into a 7 i guess he thought i dident notice. but i give the little fella credit i mean he did stick with his lie! LOL
I once had two people sitting next to my opponent mumbling tactics. I couldn’t say anything because I couldn’t here exactly what they were saying. Then one of them invited himself in on the game. I protested he got warned. He is still doing it. Lucky I only see him once a year.
I also hate when people have two or three figs in declare an attack on a fig roll the dice without saying which fig is doing the attack. It is always suss when they take there time to say which fig attacked.
