People say Sinister was a great set? And minions too? Well let's have a look see at the figures from those sets that you see in "Tournament-Caliber" armies...
Depends on how the tourney scene is around your way. Sounds like all people seem to do is "flavor of the week" armies. Always a boring way to win IMHO, no imagination. Only one time i did this and only because i wanted skyros.
Sinister has quite a few figs that are good and have won tourneys. I have personally won using the ***fighting automotons, ***gibbering ghouls, ** & *** Warbears, ** & *** magestone lords, elven demis (all 3), ** & ***corrupted priest, thunder golem, centaur champion, solonavi striker and solonavi destroyer.
That's only what i've won with and not including what i find usefull or seen in winning tourney armies. throttle worms included.
There are more minions figs that are useful than what you listed.
elven acolytes: just position your hindering right and there you go, part sniper and able healer. if these guys had 6" range then i wouldn't use them at all.
mindsifters became more usefull with the MC rules change, though it's just a matter of how you use them, same goes for the wereravens.
The sol drones are good too, as well as the other 3 dracs. The Drac guardian has won a few tourneys around here.
The phookas are slow, but a bondmaker always takes care of that, besides they're great for covering and enhancing your MBers.
as for pyramids, i'm working on it.:D
Figs don't have to be "tourney worthy" to be usefull.
We just probably have a different view of things, but this is just my spin on it. feel free to agree to disagree if you want :D

Orcs get 1 (count him: 1) usefull (not great) ranged fig the *** Fuser and he's going to be hard as heck to get and I'm supposed to be happy with it?

Gorgers: well Orcs always looked great when put on the field, that to me is part of their playability.
to powergamers it wouldn't matter if they where blobs of grey plastic, to me it does however.:rolleyes:
BTW, I love the look of the Half troll hackers from Rebellion.
yes, clurch piper (goblin runners) can move them up the field fast BUT they must be on the back of the formation or get shot.
and then they cannot reach the back of the opponents formation (a problem sometimes with the Beserker !).
4 damage, well they cost a lot of points for "only" 3 damage !
I can have 2 Orcs for that, whom can both do 4 damage a piece, which is always better.
ranged figs can be enhanced, melee figs CANNOT, so IF Orcs get melee figs that cost as much as a ***Steam golem etc. they should at least be able to do 5 damage.
last time I heard Orcs where supposed to be melee Brutes.:eek:

I'm sorry If I find that even with ML/Ram 19 defence was a beast to overcome vs. a smart player.
20 defend without ML/Ram will be nigh impossible vs.a smart player.
I'm very happy WK gave me all these possibilties.
Perhaps the gang at Wizkids noticed the trend in "armies" that consisted of 4 figures on the board, all not working in formation. I understand that the game was designed to be played at the skirmish level, but you can hit a 20 with a decent ranged attack formation.
Granted, you probably will never get the chance before they crash into you, but there you go! LOL
Okay, You got me, I have no idea why they made the Shield Golem....
I think the shield golem was a good idea. The figure shakes up some of the tired-old tactics and provides a way to get figures to close combat without having to use LI screens. The 20 defense is tough, but formations, pierce (for BA figures next to the golem) and auto-damage figures can take the shield golem down. You do not have to roll 10's to do it. Of course, someone will probably say that their opponent is too good to allow you to use formations or auto-damage. Whose fault is that? I do not hear much moaning about the EGM, and she can actually heal figures and break away on a 2-6.
It's a real "challenge" to see If I can roll 10's once, before I get slaughtered by the Shield golem's support.
That's why I said it's a challenge. :rolleyes:

If the "smart" player can't hack it, then maybe the Genius player will emerge from the thousands of masses and lead us unto the light. :D Hehe, just kidding. Seriously, I feel your pain. But what can we do. For me, just continue playing and have fun.

I agree. People can't see past the hype and have no imagination. When they think Minions expansion, all they know are the Channelers, Ironclads, Amazon Draconums, and Shadows. They forget (or don't really know how to play them) a LOT of good figs like the Medic Troll yellow, Spirit Taker any color, Thorn Maiden red, Phooka, Elven Acolyte blue and red, and Mindsifter any color.
