wait, you can't use the discard requirement for both NSF and Avalon, can you? if that's the case, then i can exhaust my Doom for both Mystical Paralysis and Finishing Move at the same time??
Dead as in 'it has no impact on the game'? No.
Dead as in 'if I wasn't playing this card and he thought I was, I'd get the exact same effect and have a better card in my deck'? Yes.

If Big Brother uses 4 Not So Fast, and is aware of the Overload in the opponent's deck to keep low until the NSF shows up, is Overload a dead card?
First off, they had to give up four slots just to run it. That's four buffs you won't be seeing.
Next, it'll cost them 2 cards to your 1 to keep the target from being stunned.
Finally, it's not like they'll have one in hand every time you have one in hand. So they'll either play conservatively and stunt their strategy or just press the attack.
if i could somehow pump up to win turn 4 i would just wait til turn 5/6 if i knew my opponent was running overload and i wasnt running not so fast.
i think you guys need to playtest with not so fast before you bash it =/. you know what? the current builds of brotherhood that i see on vsuniverse and deck clinics are pure ####. well most of them at least. i would run not so fast over dual sidearms ANY day. i would run not so fast instead of 8 1 drops ANY DAY. you dont have to take out pump for them. and believe it or not NBH isnt the only good brotherhood.
and to say overload isnt very weak when your opponent has the counter and/or doesnt overextend like a mad man is not too bright indeed. hell you might not even DRAW THE OVERLOAD. i know games where i dont draw 1 ofs of which i play 8 when i need them (team up cards) and i definetly have games where i dont draw cards of which i have 4 of
Ok, here is a serious scenario that I have seen dozens of times. Stu says that he will just pump to "just under" Overload requirements. Here is my scenario: you are on turn 3, you have Toad, Rogue:Anna Raven, and Mastermind on the board. You have 2 New Brotherhoods face-up and an Asteroid M. Right off the bat, Toad and Mastermind are done (with Overload), and if Rogue:Anna Raven wants to Blindside someone, she will want to use Asteroid M to get the most breakthrough as possible (on say, a Nightcrawler or Reed Richards). If the Brotherhood player does not "pump" to get the maximum BEL, then Overload did its job by putting the fear of that card being played, and thus saving an extra 4 endurance.
I actually had this scenario against a Brotherhood deck (I was using a Doom deck). I played 2 Overloads to stop the attack, and moreover, I had board control as next turn, Doom came out and Reign of Terrored anyone left. In addition, I flipped 1 Overload back face down.
Another scenario would be if a Mark IV Sentinel was out with 4 Wild Sentinels, and he played Combat Protocols. Now, all of the Sentinels would be vulnerable to Overload. If the player does not play CP to prevent Overload being played, then again, Overload did its job by putting the fear in the player and thus, saving valuable endurance.
My point is, there are numerous times when you can't "control" your ATK being that high (ie, multiple TNBs or putting Advanced Hardware on a 2-drop). Basically, I am on the camp that Overload is not useless...
Isn't it amazing how deeply the designers dug to make sure every card is balanced by another and all the costs are sufficiently tough to meet? How long did they play this before they knew it was this good?
Majestic, my friend... we were writing at the same time, you made me edit. I agree completely with every scenario. Since the Doom got to flip it, he is the only one who survives the Not So Fast test. Overload works in Doom. I stand corrected. Just hope I haven't drawn my second Not So Fast... I just love to say that in a game.
well if your not FF/doom but mono doom you lose neways =/. not to mention your scenerio involves alot of terrible cards. play against a good brotherhood deck not playing trash such as the thing that gives +4 and terrible 1 drops then tell me how amazing overload is against brotherhood.
Know what? I stand by my statement that started this. I say my favorite three words: "Not So Fast." I watch your face drop to the table after you realize that your Overload is useless and the load is, indeed, headed your way. Since Big Brother doesn't need a late game it can easily afford the four spots for my favorite three words. Sure, Overload is now a 50/50 shot, but there are better ways.
I'm still curious how a card can be useless if it both forces you to play the game differently than you otherwise would and pack your deck with counters to defend against it.
