I can't help feeling that the fairness of this "contest" is nonexistant. What is the contest really, who can woo more people? Who can buy enough friends? It's an utter farse of competition.
What about rating? UDE provides ratings for this game, did you know that?
People don't talk about it much- since the subject is hardly a vehicle for emotes or anime references, but what about the 4 highest-rated, non-qualified vsrealms members?
fake, did you stop to think that maybe, maybe UDE plans on giving slots to the most highly-rated players that haven't qualified yet? So why should Realms do this? It's their site, etc. They can give their slots away however they please.

Too rewarding to those who play well? Not rewarding enough to the person with the most visible sigline? I dare not speculate.
Like before, it's their clique, I and those in my position have only to pick our fav friend_of_the_admin- as we've been told to do.
Heh. Wrong. You can nominate whoever you want. It'll be up to the people to decide by voting (oh, wait...I forgot that a democracy is too gauche for those elitist types who enjoy a plain, ol' fashioned dictatorship any day).

I, for one, don't like the idea of mercy-slots in a game where _most_ of us have to work to get anywhere.
Why? Huh? What's the skin off of your back? So they want to hand slots out to people. So what? How in the world does that affect your little world in any way? Or make it more or less difficult for you to qualify? Yeah, the rest of us have to work at it. Yet, you don't hear me complaining about it, do you?

I won't single out any posts or posters, it just seems to me that alot of what these vsrealms celebs do to get their notice is fluff. Example: analysis on 2nd tier concepts- humor posts- esoteric contests with little relevance to serious play- spoiler posts- and the all time fav "what may or may not be in the next set" articles. None of which have any direct effect on player education aside from _gratuitously_ casual play.
Then do something about it, fake! Instead of whine and complain, "Oh, these articles suck, they don't tell me anything new, it's all speculation, how am I supposed to use this second rate strategy at my next PCQ, blah blah blah", put your money where your mouth is. Start writing articles for the site that you want to see. Oh, wait. That would be contributing to the community. Never mind.

If given the choice though, I guess I'd leave your wittle bubble intact- seeing as it's all some people have.
We'll see who's q'ed after origins, hopefully then this silly, horrible idea won't matter.

Seems like a cloudy day for quiet community members. Again we worship the outward superstar types and shun the rest. I got into gaming because I was tired of "being picked last" and tired of vying for the attention of the beautiful people. I assumed nerddom (or it assumed me) to segregate my life from the pettyness of being popular, being a follower. It makes my GI tract cringe to think that the administration of this site would subject us to the superficial and demeaning gulag of vying for that which many others have worked very thoroughly for. But it's their site and their contest, their treehouse so I guess they can play favorites, roll up the rope ladder and disclude the uncool kids as they see fit.
and what happens when one of the vsrealms "gimme" players actually gets into a circuit-level match? If their past record is to be considered, the they will more than likely lose due to inability or lack of valid testing. So that's 4 slots of dead money, great job guys.
And exactly how do you think the tickets should be given away..I am not a staff member here so I am just curious as to what you think would be fair. Why would the owners of this site not want to reward the more popular members of the site? The only reason Stu gets mentioned in all these posts is because he puts forward the effort in posting and whatnot. Maybe your name would be mentioned if you took a more active approach to posting.
I looked over your 13 posts on this site and they offer nothing of interest at all. You just troll the boards making snide comments. Instead of making this ridiculous post, why not offer some ideas on how to distribute them.
________ Creampie Young
Well, I will make my last statement, and them I am done....
Beacon: What you say is true, most member's do not have a shot at this one, buit let's look at all the factor's in Typhone choosing how to distribute these...
1. Exnay on the Random Giveaway: There are sooo many things that can go wrong with this.....a member may not affored is, a member may not be able to travel, a member may not be able to play and so on. Even though this site is new, there still are unattive member's...so if it goes to one of them...how are they gonna know?
2. Sure, none of the post's that are made here change the world as we know it....but this is a CARD GAME! The frequent "flavor post's" actually contribute somthing(however small) to the site. The fact is is that they DO contribute, and that is enough for me...
3. As stated by Typhone, there are FOUR tickets to be given away. So this is only one form of "contest" not the only one. If it were, this would be a much larger problem, but it is not...Typhone is doing what is democratically acceptable. He is leaving it up to us to choose them, rather than just hand it to them, and for that, I applaude him, because they DO deserve it to be handed to them....
4. Re-Read:p
5. Oh, I have one person to nominate....I nominate Hydra....for as far as I know, that single question that he posted exploded to what is now revealing a Hidden Meta, now quickly overshadowing the Brotherhood as the dominate deck-type!
-Simon
Whoops! look's like I was a little late on the rebuttle:p
I would actually LOVE to hear suggestions on how to distribute the other THREE 'Golden Tickets'. Emma Frost is correct that there is almost no good way of decided who should get these... so I'm left with 'the better of 2 evils'. Want to hear some of the other things I discarded in lue of this option?
1.) Random Drawing of members active within the past 30 days.
2.) Challenge Match. Beat 3 of VSReams' hand-picked Pros, and you've earned your spot.
3.) Article Contest. LOL! 'nuff said.
4.) Scavenger Hunt @ Origins. (don't know the layout... kinda hard to do).
5.) Next Unqualified VSRealms member in the Origins $10K
... yada yada yada
There were a lot more, but I can't think of them right now. Anyway, let me know what you'd think is fair ... and if I pick that you can read someone else complain about your 'great idea'. :)
This will test anyone who play's, and might actually fond the best player lol.
Each person is given one RANDOM deck, containing ANY of the known Archtypes(Big Brother hood, Wild Vomit, The Reign of Doom, Fantastic X-Men, Doom-X and more. )
Each Player is matched up Swiss style, and is given a random deck, no prepare time. It will be double elimination, with decks changing after each round, no prepare.
This would TRULY challange anyone who play's. Also, if this were the determining factor of the "Best Vs. Player of Realms, this would be it lol.
Also, for an Origins thing, maybe do a Gutsyest player? One who comes in with a completly original deck, and has sucess? I dunno. But I hope I helped!
Well, I don't think that this should turn into a popularity contest either. That's why I am offering $1 per vote received, payable only through Paypal. I figure 150 votes should be enough to carry the majority.
5.) Next Unqualified VSRealms member in the Origins $10K
I think this is a great idea for one of the tickets. Maybe require people from VSrealms to "register" for the contest, that way you can verify they have been an active member. Then since you are going to be there, you can verify the winner.
i like the idea of a contest.....=)
i like the idea of an origins competition, but not the pcq (if I could do the pcq I wouldnt be worrying, but I have to do yu gi oh nationals at the same time).
i also like the idea of playing the 3 best players to earn it...whatever that idea was.
I think the deckbuilding idea wouldnt work, too many people know how to copy and paste.
I think that contest of certain skills work best....its just kinda hard to figure that out on a website, so I see why Typhon has so much to deal with.....just remember, you cant make everyone happy.
2 Words : Ultimate Fighting. Watch Stu, Tama, and En-Kur go at it in the octagon. Winner gets Golden Ticket and FOIL Make Offers x 4 <-The card thats on everyones want list. Haha inside joke..
But really, I don't care much who wins the 4 tickets, so long as they actually use the opportunity. It would suck to know someone won and couldn't go when someone else could have used the ticket.
Well, this is kool! I really could use a golden ticket... But, I'm sure there are many more deserving (better playing) players in this community. Oh well...
If I had to choose one to nominate, I'd say good ol' stu! Just can't resist the Sentinel charm.... hehehe......
P.S. - Does that mean you're from Lincoln, Nebraska Emma Frost??? 'Cause I am too! Just if you wanted to know...:p
